Well done, Al Ewing. The greatest Green Lantern punched and lectured by a shit character who can't sell her own book. Is that what you said "Absolute Universe is about modernizing the heroes while staying true to their core"? That is how you stay true to the core of Green Lantern?

Sojourner Mullein really is an annoying character. Her power was stolen, which caused the death of an entire city, and then she had the nerve to stand on the moral high ground and accuse Hal. BTW does Ewing know that Green Lantern Oath was originally written by Hal in Silver Age canon? He really changed it into a cheap love word of a broken couple?

Finally human language but didn't make the book interesting.
I have a question for Al Ewing. If he tries to build Sojourner Mullein as a hot-headed, big-hearted character who screwed up her relationship with her loved one, doesn't he realize it sounds a lot more similar to Hal Jordan than Sojourner Mullein?

I can't believe the more Ewing writes, the more Jo resembles main universe Hal. She comes from a single parent family where the parent keeps telling her to be restrained, yet she has this urge to break out. Later She quits her job because she has problems with her superior. Ewing even stole Hal's villain Black Hand and Hal's city for her.

I don't understand how can Alan still be called a superhero now. He wields so much power that can overturn every regime of this planet. He can and ought to protect his kind, fight for them. That's what a hero does. That's what the old Alan would do. Yet he used it to run away from the police when he was seeing a prostitute. Alan used to be a tough guy, an old class hero. I don't appreciate why they want to turn him into a pathetic hypocrite.

I expect this issue a touching one. But how the writers handle it is too... clumsy. How could it be possible that Alfred wanted to tell Bruce "your parents' death made you Batman so they would've die willingly for you to save people"? Seriously, Alfred's death and how families react deserves better writing.

The series was originally planned with Hal Jordan being the Emerald Knight, but for some obvious reason it was changed. Now we can see this character called John Stewart based in Hal's Coast City, developing a relationship with Hal's villain, Sinestro. Really this is the dumbest way to push a character -- write a story for Hal Jordan and rename him John Stewart.

LOL This is the most hilarious issue I've ever read in years. So while in Superman's tie-in he dreams that he could spend time with his son, John Stewart wants a world without anyone better than him, like the Trinity, and Hal Jordan. Thus he will be praised as the greatest hero the world's ever seen, by his mother. What does the writer want to say? John Stewart is such a man of vanity? Or it's just another case of crazy fanboyism, like Geoff Thorne? Anyway it suits him well.

I know perhaps nobody cares about Sinestro except me but I'm a huge fan of this character. Sinestro having a threesome is totally out of character. He is not that kind of villains who indulge in sex. Instead, he is a tyrant who addicts himself to power, to authority. Making him randomly have sex just falls to a new low. Obviously Thorne knows nothing about the GL franchise. He knows nothing about Sinestro either. I don't know why he insists on writing Hal Jordan's archenemy since everyone knows he loathes Hal. Perhaps because John Stewart is so bland that he doesn't have his own villain so he has to steal from Hal. Or perhaps Thorne just wants to ruin Hal's villain since his writing is sooooooo bad.
Beyond that, Teen Lantern taking down Sinestro's elites is one of the most ridiculous scene I've read in GL comics in years. And Thorne is even ripping off Hal's story in Future States written by Robert Venditti, which is already a bad enough story.
|

Green Lantern Annual: 2021

Just stop this bullshit. Sinestro dispises Kyle Ranyer because he considers Kyle an unworthy Green Lantern. Why would he have an eye for Jessica, the most unworthy earth lantern of all? And Hal's always been an empathetic person. He mentored Jessica when she joined the league. They have a close relationship like brother and sister. The writer is just dwarfing Hal to push Jessica, shamefully .
It's sad to come to know, in these days, Hal Jordan, or his archenemy, is just a plot tool to push those secondary lanterns. And it's really a weird and stupid business strategy since Hal is still DC's most popular Green Lantern.

A series with no originality at all. All plots are dull. All the things Geoff Thorne does to John Stewart happened before on other lanterns. And just thinking about Thorne really think dragging Jack Kirby into this issue can make his poor book work.

I have to say this issue gives us the most boring fight between Sinestro and Hal since Silver Age.
Yeah the art is good and the action scene is exciting. But the dialogues are just rough.
I think Adams is a great writer as he is very good at telling stories, but the problem is, he hasn't understood Hal that well. Nor has he understood the relationship between Hal and Sinestro and what makes it unique.
If they fight, I want to see how their past haunts them, how their visions conflict with each other.
However, all I can see is Sinestro suddenly snapped and Hal kept saying "Sinestro stop being mad!"
What's the difference here if we just change Sinestro into another random villain.
I hope Adams prepared something else in next issues. Or this is just disappointing.

Adams tried to explain why there are so many redundant earth lanterns. But this issue still failed to convince me of their validity. IMO they don't need to be legitimized. They need to be pruned.
And the Jessica Cruz backup story is so stupid. Thaaros just swallowed her clumsy lies and tricks like an idiot? That's the big bad the corps are dealing with? Is this story written for infants?
Plus, too many earth lanterns are so boring. It would be much better if the one who rescued Hal is Arisia, Trilla-Tru, or Iolande, instead of Jo who nobody cares about.

Green Lantern #10

Disappointing.
1. Hal is portrayed like a fool and out of character. I know Jeremy wants to introduce the situation to readers through the dialogues between Hal and Jo, but don't you have a better way to do this? Where's Hal's questioning spirit? His problems with the authority? His sharp instincts? His leading qualities?
2. This book is bloated with earth humans. We finally made it into the space yet all we can see are still earth humans. This is soooooo boring. Hey, Jeremy, we haven't seen Salaak for a while, would you mind giving him a line? I'm sure he is the veteran here instead of Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz or Jo Mullein.
3. Hal saves the day in this issue because he got a ring from his friend Tom. So why is he the greatest Green Lantern? What's so special about him? He is the protagonist of the book after all. We are supposed to expect something exciting or extraordinary from him..
4. I genuinely think Keli should be never mentioned again. This character is an abomination.
As I can see, Jeremy Adams is now making the same mistake as Robert Venditti did in his repulsive run.

Although I enjoyed Hal's scene in this issue, a glaring issue with the current run has become too significant to overlook: Hal appears on merely a quarter of the pages.
It frustrated me and keeps frustrating me that we only get one book of Hal per month, ONE BOOK, yet it is not entirely focused on Hal. Meanwhile the other Green Lantern book, War Journal, is completely dedicated to John Stewart. Buying Hal's book, I am compelled to tolerate Jo Mullein, Jessica Cruz, Kyle Rayner, the fxxking stupid Teen Lantern, and now JSA, whose storylines do not contribute to the protagonist of the book. These characters have become a hindrance in my reading experience.
And the sorrow lantern is just a bad idea. The continual arrival of new lanterns has become redundant and exhausting. Come on, It's a big universe, with countless things to explore. It's better to leave the emotional spectrum alone before it become repetitive and draining. Additionally, Adams may need to reconsider: does he truly wish to make a man sharing the same surname as Hal's co-creator a villain?
I rate this issue a 2.5 as it is a quarter of the total 10.

I'm saying this as an Asian. The writer has no respect to the Green Lantern lore and clasic characters. He just uses the Green Lantern franchise as a shortcut to fulfill his self-insert. The story is not about Green Lantern. It doesn't have to be a Green Lantern story either. I hope the writer knows that replacing the classic character with your creation is not going to make fans happy. I hope DC knows how to manage and protect their franchises and characters. Because this book does more damage than contribution.
John Stewart's mentor is not your grandma. It's Katma Tui, his love of life. Coast City's Green Lantern and Sinestro's archenemy is not your grandma. It's Hal Jordan, the greatest Green Lantern.
This story reads like a 12-year old boy's Mary Sue fanfiction. Annoying and disgusting.

December 18, 2019
|

If you are inept to write an epic story, don't do it. If you are inept to write a character, don't do it. Don't let characters be the victims to your ambitions. All I can see is failed story-telling and mistreated characters.

Just like everything Snyder writes, this run ends with nothing. For a worthless, meaningless story, it lasts too long. Perpetua is a boring, annoying, outdated villain and that makes the JL even dumber. I may be wrong but is Snyder whining about editorial decisions in the story? That's pretty unprofessional and narrow-minded I think since the story is JUST BAD.

Terrible characteristics and poor lines as usual. Venditti is pushing his favourite character John Stewart in this issue by the only way he know -- making others look bad. As to Sodam Yat, kind of surprised to see even not writing Green Lantern anymore, Venditti continues to ruin everything Geoff Johns built in his epic Green Lantern run.

John Stewart's best plan is to let Barry distract enemies while others cheer for him. Well this is the best Venditti can do.

We don't buy a Shazam book to see Batman being sucked. The writer treat Billy as a robin instead of an independent teen hero.

I hate the idea of Sinestro's son, no matter he is his true son or not. Tomasi, just stop this farce. Write your overflowing paternal love for Ghost Machine or something. Stop messing up DC's characters.

I hate the idea of Sinestro's son. Tomasi really left a bad load of shit before moving on ghost machine. Tomasi is clearly putting in a lot of effort to portray the children as adorable, but they come across as annoying instead.

Very disappointing that Ram V totally messed up with Hal Jordan and John Stewart's characteristics. Hal is all about defying authority while John is the one who takes orders and follows the rules. Ram V reversed their roles just to prop up John and make Hal look bad. I feel that DC writers these days just can't write John Stewart without shitting on Hal Jordan.
