Right? This just seems lazily written

But Why Tho? - Charles Hartford
Jan 26, 2021Bringing it all together, Strange Adventures #8 delivers a great issue on its own. The plot feels like it is about to tip, as moments in both the past and present feel primed and ready to explode. And with how this issue wraps, a long-standing question in the series looks like it may find its answers next issue. And I dont know if Im ready for what its gonna be. Read Full Review

Monkeys Fighting Robots - Zac Owens
Jan 26, 2021DC Comics'STRANGE ADVENTURESis going stronger than ever. With four issues to go, this series is upping the stakes to reach its conclusion. It's a subtle meditation on the power war has over our humanity and our will to live. But it's also about how fighting for your life can leave you haunted and empty. Read Full Review

On Comics Ground - Timothy Quail
Jan 26, 2021This issue may not have any large revelations, but it leans into the theme of the book. War is a crime in itself. War heroes can also be seen as war criminals depending on the angle you look at it. Adam Strange is a protagonist, but he is not a hero. However, a lot of what is said in this book is left to the reader to face their own feelings on the nature of War. Read Full Review

Jan 27, 2021The artwork by both Gerads and Shaner is tops here. They can handle the big epic battles extremely well but also the quieter character moments. Their artwork is something special indeed. Read Full Review

AIPT - David Brooke
Jan 26, 2021Under the guise of superheroes, Gerads, Shaner, and King have been telling a meaningful story about soldiers at war and what that war does to them. What they bring home and how that affects us all is explored in meaningful ways that allow the reader to come to their own conclusions. Strange Adventures remains one of the most meaningful superhero stories on the stands today. Read Full Review

Jan 26, 2021The "King-verse," such as it is, feels distinct from the main DCU and the events of this issue feel like they can't simply happen without being reflected elsewhere. But this series works best as its own thing, and this issue is one of the strongest of the run. Read Full Review

The Super Powered Fancast - Deron Generally
Jan 26, 2021Both Mitch Gerads and Evan "Doc" Shaner bring some beautiful imagery to this issue. The contrast between the gritty, dark and brilliantly detailed pages from Gerads and the classic style and amazing details of Shaner's pages grab me visually as a reader. Read Full Review

Feb 01, 2021Additionally, the sequence in Phoenix where The Flash goes looking for survivors is well handled. And gives us an idea of how aggressive and how hard the Pykkts are prepared to fight. It also has you wondering if Batman and the Justice League have perhaps bitten off more than they can chew. Read Full Review

The Fandom Post - Chris Beveridge
Feb 02, 2021Strange Adventures doesn't have any big reveals here but it unfolds more of the war on two fronts at different times and places that illuminates a lot. The battle on earth is going brutally but there's also ways time for some interrogation and seeing similar happening on Rann is just rough to watch. Such sequences are fascinating to watch unfold and I like how this issue plays out as it shows a lot from past and present with what's happening and the why of some of it. There are teases of the bigger picture and reveals to come and be confirmed and I'm excited to see what the remaining issues in the run will bring out. Read Full Review

Jan 27, 2021Strange Adventures #8 is the issue that launches us into the final third of the twelve issue series. It's a sweeping story that examines wars and the mythology that spins out of them. Where the creative team takes this all should be interesting. How it will reflect on our modern times even more so. Read Full Review

DC Comics News - Matthew Lloyd
Jan 25, 2021King, Gerads and Shaner reveal a bit more about what happened on Rann and it's incredibly enticing! Batman and Mr. Terrific display a great working relationship as they try to discover the reason for the Pykkts invasion and destruction of Phoenix. So far, all the pieces don't add up, but the journey is executed wonderfully! Read Full Review

Feb 03, 2021The Pykkts invasion of Earth continues as the bodies pile up and the heroes do their best. Meanwhile, we begin to creep closer and closer to the inevitable death of Adam Strange's daughter. But, if anyone thought the tragedy was what pushed Adam over the edge, you may have other ideas by the end of this issue. Is Adam war hero, or war criminal? Read Full Review

Jan 27, 2021Future issues may provide a serious reflection on what leads seemingly good men to transform themselves into monsters, but the series still isn't there yet. In the midst of these events, the continued use of grawlix are tonally inconsistent to the point of distraction, too. Read Full Review

I've been so impressed with this series... I really don't understand the hate it's gotten. This is a brilliantly written, brilliantly illustrated series that keeps getting better and better. This is shaping up to be one of my favourite Tom King books.

Possibly the best comic DC is putting out right now, now that Hellblazer is over.

So the Pkkyts slaughter people with 'honor and dignity' but get outraged when Strange doesn't follow their rules in defending Rann? Batman tells Strange that they don't kill but Superman is seen blasting through a Pykkt ship? Strange takes his daughter into a potential dangerous war zone? What was he thinking? The return of Terrific's trivia was annoying. The artwork was great as usual.

I'm still liking this series as a whole, but I think we've reached a point where the single issues don't feel like they're moving the plot forward enough.

The art is great, but the story? grim and gritty Adam Strange, just what the world needs. If King wants to do a story on truth,, trauma and the Trump era, why not write a book or an indy graphic novel? Choosing to do it with Adam Strange might be ok, but this book has been a bit full of itself for a while.

I skipped over the annoying smart guy robot moments and yet they still annoyed me.

I found this to be one of the worst of the series. The artwork has improved as it's went on, but the story isn't improving. At this point, I want someone to wrap it up and end it. Personally, this just might be the last issue for me. I found myself wanting Mr Terrific, Flash, Batman, and the rest to take over the book and forget about Adam Strange. Adam shoots first, ok, I get it, now let's move on to something else. The story always leads me feeling like someone hit a fast forward button and skipped something. I'm left not caring what happens, not good. If DC wants to go up on their prices, they better provide more.

I wish I could like this more, but I'm just not interested. I hate that they brought back the trivia t-sphere thing. That never worked for me. I just want this to wrap up.
