    Geek Dad - Ray Goldfield

    Jan 07, 2026

This is one of the most intense and violent issues of the series so far, with the stakes sky-high despite the lack of a huge-scale villian for much of the story. There are also some great flashbacks that show Jo's complicated past, and the addition of Simon Baz here a magic-afflicted agent with a very interesting reason for his mask continues to add new wrinkles. It feels like unlike the other books in the line, we've barely scratched the surface of the mystery here. Read Full Review

    Fanlight Zone - Ken M.

    Jan 07, 2026

In Dying Day, in fading light.no Gold assassin will defeat a Lantern without a fight! Ewing goes to extremes for resolving an assassination attempt with the writing. Kotian and Pressy bring the pain with the bold panels depicting this fight. A grittier tale than expected that should win over readers with its impressive set-up. Read Full Review

There’s still a lot of unanswered questions, but in the last few issues the book has really hit its stride.

A surprisingly gruesome issue here, with Jo pulling bullets out of her body and, eventually, stabbing Goldface in the eye with pliers. Super cool stuff there, and the rest was pretty good, as well. Kotian's interiors continue to be nice, and I'm still consistently enjoying this book. I still think I should be liking this more with Ewing on the writing duties, but not every book needs to be the greatest thing ever, I suppose.

    Good, but still not enough.

I find myself wondering why this isn't built around John Stewart, Kyle Rayner or Hal Jordan. I just don't find the lead compelling. I get it though, they are trying to do something different - in keeping with the spirit of the Absolute line. I feel this series would be loved were it focused on different characters regardless.

While this chapter was very good on its own terms, the overarching storyline of this series is both convoluted and weak. Jo is not a compelling or sympathetic character to get behind, too many unanswered questions remain about this lantern corps, and the villain, Hammond, has had very little revealed about him. Compare this title to any other Absolute title and it falls way short of the high marks set by each of the other 5 books.

I fell like the series is improving. For the first time, I felt like the main character was in real danger. Nevertheless, AGL is still the worst series in the line. It's a shame because Ewing is an excellent writer.
