I bought it, read it, and really disliked it. The only reason I'm buying Action Comics is to keep my collection complete as possible. The series itself has been bad for about 16 months now. I mean this current run makes Bendis look great by comparison.

Honestly... if you're buying something out of obligation like this, it's almost sadder than not reading it and review bombing it. 16 months? At $4.99 an issue? Count me out. Also, to think Bendis' run is better than this run is frankly absurd.

Thank you for the concern on how I spend my money, however completion of a run is important and I'm optimistic that things will improve eventually. Bendis at least understood the character of Superman and knew to keep stories short to appeal to a large audience. The formula is simple 3 stories that are 4 issues each that tie into a larger story arc to be resolved during the summer annual season. This is just banking on trade paperback sales. I understand their shift but I don't have to like it

...I mean, have you been out of comics since the late 90s? Cause that's when the trade paperbacks really began to play a role in the construction of stories in the ongoing titles. Bendis' run had long arcs, but they were incoherent, which is why you thought it didn't.

So when the choice is to make Aphrodite like that, it's a wink at the fat positivity movement. I dont even know which review you're referring to on the nightwing animal. And I'm not sure where you're getting the concept that these are intended to be humans when many of them are drawn with minimal if any human features. Artemis has doe eyes, hecate is an amalgamation of forms barely recognizable at all, and Athena has no true form at all. As you said, these are up to our own interpretation of what God hood is like.

No one in this book tells people they should be fat to look like aphrodite, nor is aphrodite shown to be someone anyone else conspires attractive. I think you're reading a little much into this, and again, even if that was the creator intent that is just as valid as any other interpretation of a fictional God. There was a time when plumpness was indeed seen as attractive just as there was a time small penises were seen as preferable.

All this to say that judging this design on messages that aren't sent, and restrictions that aren't relevant(nutritional health is meaningless to these beings) seems misguided but im open to other interprations of it, just like im open to these interpreting of the gods. Thor predates the strong man archetype, its very possible he wouldn't have been a lean man in the minds of the vikings.

I upvoted a few of the nightwing reviews, just tell me what it is that triggered you specifically because I'm not going back and checking atm. The gods usually represent a few key traits that are universal in there depictions, like thors strength. Aphrodites is beauty yes. But beauty is a subjective trait, as evidence by standards changing constantly over history including to favor how she's depicted here.

Even cleopstra is believed to be overweight/plump in real life, and she was certainly considered beautiful by certain powerful individuals. So if your argument is that an overwight person cannot be attractive, well that's an opinion and you're entitled to it, but I cant say I agree with that. Intent doesn't really matter here as I said, and I'm not interested in guessing at what the intent was.

Do you have a statement from the writer confirming that? Because that's really the only thing I'll take seriously. Decorum is certainly different but beautiful all the same. Huddleston shifts between styles the way a musician changes notes, it's just seamless. He goes from simple sketching to Blade Runner-esque digital, to Dali-influenced almost painted looking, to impeccably clean, clear linework and back, all in the same issue.

Tim Seeley has a long history of being a terrible writer, especially when it comes to the Robins. So... I can't believe the fans voted for this one.

I've read plenty of his work and holy shit, it isn't good. And yeah, I know it's not uncommon, I said as much. I just don't trust Seeley and, since I'm no fan, I'm also not following him on twitter. I'm glad it's intentional. Doesn't change my review here, because I didn't rate it on this one part of the comic. I rated it for its very poor writing.

Against everything I believe in, I have been persuaded, in large part, not to engage in this stuff because one can’t persuade a brainwashed person to listen to reason. The entire situation in Afghanistan is horrible and has been caused by 40+ years of American and Soviet mismanagement. I’m not really sure what the answer is but I pretty strongly believe it’s not continuing to fight a forever war alongside permanent occupation.

I loved the first issue of the run and liked this one. I didn't like the issues inbetween and not because of Red Hood or politics. It was because we were getting fan service over story. This issue gives fan service moments, but they push the story forward. I am a huge Nightwing fan so seeing Blockbuster isn't going to wow me, but seeing him go after Dick in this issue was awesome! Heartless finally gets some setup and Dick uses the money to help everyone, especially the homeless kids.

Also, for 3-4 issues Tom Taylor was just telling us that everyone loves Dick Grayson, where this one he showed why they love him through Nightwing's actions.

Tom King was literally pulled off Batman 15 issues short. Even the fan dead DC saw he was tanking the flagship title. I had zero interest in his consolation prize BatmanCatwoman which as I expected is the same standard of lazy garbage he did with Batman. He seems to fare a little better reader wise with second and third tier characters like mister miracle but I dont care. He succeeded in stopping from buying my favorite book for nearly 85 issues and his writing stinks on ice.

Yeah ok art is subjective but I don't even give King that leeway for what he did to batman.

But after the second half of his Batman run, after Heroes in Crisis, after Batman/Catwoman, after Strange Adventures I started to notice that no matter how badly he writes there are always going to be a lot of people who're going to praise him even when his writing is atrocious. If on the cover of this book it would be the name of, I don't know, say, Robert Venditti? No one would care about this and the rating would be very, very low.
