Melinda Zucco's connection to the man who killed Dick Grayson's parents wasn't a surprise to the Blüdhaven hero, but what the former Robin discovers about Melinda's ties to the Flying Graysons leaves the usually upbeat detective speechless.

Sometimes I get a little down because almost all the comics I read are so that I can write reviews about them, I rarely get the time to enjoy a title, or watch a show just for fun anymore. This comic isn't just a pleasure to review, it's one of the ones that make doing this job so great, and so rewarding. Read Full Review

There's a lot to unpack this issue. Enjoy the show and take in what Nightwing #82 has to offer. Since issue 78, this feels more like this is his show and not a Bat book, and may DC keep allowing it to stand all on its own. If you haven't done so already, put this in your comic book rotation! Nightwing continues its winning ways of embracing and expanding the best parts of who and what Dick Grayson is as one of the true hearts of the DC Universe. The art team beautifully works together to create a harmonious mix of past and present set scenes that are beyond delightful. This team has proven that they not only love this character and the world he inhabits but know just how to pay tribute to everything that came before while adding their own additions to such a solid foundation. It's still hard to know what to make of Melinda. When we met her, she was a puppet figure working for Blockbuster. She still has zero problem with crime, it seems, even as she moves to protect her brother. She's an enigma, and she's definitely added some new energy to Bludhaven. This issue is mostly about her, so other players like Barbara and Tim don't get much to do"and there's virtually no Bitewing. But this series hasn't had a miss with this new creative team yet. Tom Taylor and company do a fantastic job having Melinda Zucco's bombshell expand on the Grayson Family history in a way that makes you care even more about everyone involved. Jul 20, 2021

Nightwing #82 spends its time dealing with last month's shocking revelation that Melinda Zucco may be Dick's sister. The change-up in artists breathes a little fresh air into the series that's been more than capably handled by Bruno Redondo. I don't blame anyone who's put off by the change in Dick's backstory, but the execution is solid, even if Taylor's script seems painfully aware of potential backlash. As it stands, future issues will determine if these changes are worth it, but right now I'm not fully convinced. Read Full Review

a rather short issue but very informative. We learn that Melinda Zucco is Dick long-unknown sister. Her mother, who is a victim of sex-trafficking, was bought my Tony Zucco, saved by John Grayson, had a small relationship with him before John & Mary got together. She brought Melinda to the circus to meet everyone but once she saw Dick, she didn't want to ruin the dynamic the Graysons had. It's really interesting because it's a new thing that kind of makes sense. Dick Grayson is an orphan, a stray, if you will. So he understands what it's like to lose family & feel like a part of you is missing. Also what it's like to not fit in. This is why he cares & wants to help/make a change. So I'm curious to see how Dick will treat her as the story un more

Well this made that last "revelation" a bit more relieving. We as well as Dick and his team don't know if Melinda Zucco is really the love child of Tony Zucco's paid for wife and the Flying Grayson patriarch, or just a fantasy Melinda's mother had to escape from abuse. Fortunately, that doesn't seem too much of an issue. Everyone's on their guard, trying not to let one person get an edge over the other. There's a strong feeling of safety being compromised around some of the characters. Something that I feel ties back to the themes of this series: What's the point of feeling safe when it might come from a lie that people believe?

A good issue where the action slows down a bit for a bit of backstory, an interesting retcon, and emotional beats Tom Taylor has mastered in the past few years on DC books. I don't think I've spent this much time with Dick's parents, which was good fun. This continues to have all the hallmarks of a revered run on this character.

Probably the weakest issue so far in the run. It is a pretty big retcon and kind of stretching any kind of believability. For me, it's fine though, retcons are part of comics, and this isn't the worst one by far. I really liked the Titans and Batman coming to the rescue, that was very cute. But the rest of the comic is mostly just backstory explanation exposition dump, which is what I didn't like. Hope the next issue brings back the fun and energetic action/humor that the previous 4 issues had. The art is still spectacular, I don't think I've enjoyed Bruno Redondo's art as much as I do here.

It was okay... I get that this issue was just for the back story for the new reveal character, but it was just unnecessary as him having a half-sister doesn't help as he already has a big family, and lot of friends. He is the last character to need another relation from the past. What Nightwing needs is new villains, somebody new to go against him, and they don't necessarily have to be related to his past in someway or another it just needs to be in conflict with him. Since there are lot of stories right now where the writers are giving villains big backstories and past relations to the hero to either make the villain relatable or get empathy. And yes the titans showing up was lame way to say he has a lot of friends on his back, cu more

This will contain SPOILERS. This is all falling further and further apart for me. It's great that Taylor didn't make Dick's past and his parents' less wholesome than they were before but the thin excuse of "They weren't together yet" is just that. A thin excuse for a sister that has no reason to exist. Considering Melinda is of Cobb's descent, where were the Owls? And Zucco targeting Dick's parents all along adds nothing of substance to Dick's origin. For a moment there I was excited to see who was coming knocking at the door, but the reveal sucked all of the little enjoyment I got from this Issue out of me. I have zero interest in Nightwing vs Blockbuster a-fucking-gain. The Titans simply appeared to fill a page. Maybe Donna wil more

After the last issue, I thought Nightwing was going to get better, but this issue has such ridiculous things from beginning to end. Nightwing has been lost for hours and what happens? Barbara mobilized the entire heroes community to find him, I understand Batman is coming, but dragging the others! and Drake just looking!! tells us that the writer is indiscriminately using characters as filler, in his insistance to said "Look, Look everybody loves and care Dick!!" The most viable option was to send Drake, Robin, Red Robin or whatever the hell it's called now, maybe on par with Batman, but dragging the others out to go against a only single woman with out metahuman powers looks bad. It's not just Dick's head problems was a c more

One of life's great mysteries is how a hack like Tom Taylor keeps managing to trick people into believing he's actually a good writer, I can't understand it really. Yes, he's written Injustice but everything after that was mediocre in the best case. Here we have an unnecessary retcon that no one asked for, yet another boring story and somehow he still tricks some people into thinking this is good. I get it, Nightwing's been tortured so badly these last few years that people are just happy he's back but we should want much, much better stories for one of DC's most popular characters. P.S.: It is nice to see though that more and more people are opening their eyes and realizing this is a travesty of a comic, I'm really glad about that.

This issue is the worst in Taylor's run so far and this is from someone who's been loving it up until this point. The run has been great but The creation of Melinda Zucco is such a bad decision and is as harmful to the mythos of Nightwing as the stone from injustice. I honestly don't know how anyone could read this issue without feeling utterly disappointed. Dick is barely in the comic and it's entirely in flashback explaining Tom Taylor's OC. Yes this is fanfiction and not good fanfiction at that. Tom Taylor really sh*t the bed with this one. He could do so much better.
