You know the drill by now. Nightwing is DC's best book right now and shows no sign of handing over its crown. The creative team is so locked in and it seems like we're in the middle of an all-time great run for Dick Grayson. Read Full Review

But Why Tho? - William J. Jackson

    Jun 15, 2021

It cannot be stated enough that DC has a hit on its hands with this series. If you start with this issue, you'll be a very happy fan. But let it inspire you to get the previous three issues to see how it all progressed. It's exciting to see a character Dc once (twice) tried to remove from the scene now enjoys a spectacular storyline that hopefully, one day forms the center of a Nightwing family of titles. If possible, this would rate a 10 out of 5. Read Full Review

It's no secret that I love every member of the Bat-Family; however competent, temperamental, misguided, stubborn or obstinate they may be, but it's always lovely seeing one in these pages" or is it? This series is fun, but I've already said that it also consistently delivers food for thought. The cliffhanger this month doesn't involve imminent death, or violence, but has grabbed me all the same. Faithful Taylor readers know you can't get comfortable reading his work. You're always one panel away from a major development, good or bad. But his first few issues on Nightwing had been different. That probably had to do with the need to establish the character's direction after Joker War and the other matters with the title I've spent too much time on already. That mission has been accomplished, and it seems Taylor knows that. Read Full Review

    Batman-News - Michael Escalante

    Jun 15, 2021

Nightwing #81 is a must read for any fan of the character given its final page reveal. While the cliffhanger is definitely intriguing, the rest of the issue is solid in its own right. The fight between Dick and Heartless is well executed and concludes on an optimistic note for the citizens of Bldhaven. Sentimentality is more carefully managed and Taylor's script does a better job of balancing high octane action with his quieter, character driven scenes. With a major shakeup in store for next month's issue, the potential for the series is higher than before. Read Full Review

Nightwing continues to jog in place a bit, but the cliffhanger could be very explosive!  Tom Taylor still seems a little too concerned with fan service instead of developing his antagonists and story, but the art is excellent, and he writes Dick Grayson well.  I've said it for three months now, but I still like this book when I want to love it. Art 3/3 Colors and Letters 3/3 Writing 2/4 Total 8/10 As I am reading this issue, I experienced numerous conflicting emotions. Not because of the art, coloring nor the letters. The art team has done magnificent work for the past four issues. Bruno Redondo (artist), Adriano Lucas (colors) and Wes Abbott (letters) deserve all the praises being given to them. It will no doubt be a blessing for them to continue working on Nightwing. As I said time and time again, they gave an identity to Bludhaven as a city. Ever walked in Tokyo, Paris or New York, and exclaimed to yourself "Wow!". That is what I felt looking at Bludhaven. The more amazing part is they can do more. A lot more. They have been restricted to tight spaces: alleyways, camp more

Admittedly the ending is kind of lame, but I like how Dick's attitude towards Melinda is something that gets under the skin of someone usually so level-headed and sociable. Not to mention, there's a great celebration of past Nightwing creators in a time of crisis.

Man, I was really enjoying this issue. I liked the way the characters are written. I liked the pacing. But then they had to pull that twist, which I hate. I really don't have anything else to say about this one.

Why is this series so good? Mainly because Taylor just keeps writing really great moments that showcase how fascinating & challenging Nightwing's world can be.My favorite moment in this issue is seeing the citizens of Bludhaven rally together to rescue those kids on the pier. It's the highlight of this issue for me because it proves that Dick's idea of the city is correct when he said "the people of Bludhaven are good. It's those in power that are bad." Loved the continued banter between the trio (babs, dick & tim) Enjoyed Heartless even though it's very unclear what his point of the story is for all of this. He's just stealing hearts & he wants to see kids fear? i was unclear on that. the character feels like an unnecessary or throw more

No strong feelings about this one. It exists, I guess. Dick still has to deal with the Ric stuff because DC can let everything go that pertains to continuity except for that thing no one wants to see anymore. I thought Melinda might turn into a compelling character, but it seems more as if she is just there for the cheap drama. The cartoonish skill showcases really aren't my thing. It makes them look as if they aren't part of the story and almost diminishes the skill quality wise.

I actually wanted to give this a 5 because I liked the fights but it deserves a lot less for "reveals" pulled out of Taylor's ass that probably won't even turn out to be true.

The cartoonist did a great job with the fight, the art is good, the story runs very slow, It is boring to see that the Mary Sue of DC does not advance, despite the money that Alfred inherited from her, Barbara who licks the floor where she passes and Tim who Dick took the mantle from him to give it to Damian. Tyler insists on making this Mary Su more Mary Su which makes one lose interest in the bondage boy.
