Redondo uses a detailed modern drawing style that focuses on character expression and form. This is highlighted by the bold color work of Lucas. There's a typo on page 20 that bugged me, which is why this comic is only close to perfect. Yes, I know that's harsh, but when you have a diamond, even the slightest flaw can reduce its value and allure. The series is great and this issue helps bridge the many subplots that have been introduced. Having similarities to Hawkeye hasn't deterred from the overall story as both are different. I personally find myself unconvinced by the larger social themes Taylor plays with, but the book's heart is in the right place and that's enough for now. 1.I’m getting a little tired of some fans saying Taylor is a bad writer. I’m not sure that anyone is writing a better series than this one, possibly at any company. He has also made me a fan of Jonathan Kent and even of him in the Superman role in one issue flat. I didn’t think any writer capable of that. The guys is shitting gold lately. DC should give him the run of the place or at least give him JL which needs a new writer, stat. 2. I’ll go even further with this surely controversial opinion. If we had to suffer all those awful Ric Grayson issues—and I paid real money for every single one—so we could get this series, I call that a bargain. This book is that damn good. This is only a part of why the new Infinite Frontier initiative is working so well across the board, the Bendis JL being the only true stinker, but it may be my favorite example of how great the new DC has been.. more

I loved the first issue of the run and liked this one. I didn't like the issues inbetween and not because of Red Hood or politics. It was because we were getting fan service over story. This issue gives fan service moments, but they push the story forward. I am a huge Nightwing fan so seeing Blockbuster isn't going to wow me, but seeing him go after Dick in this issue was awesome! Heartless finally gets some setup and Dick uses the money to help everyone, especially the homeless kids.

I honestly like this issue and series. It gives me Chip Zdarsky's Daredevil vibes. it has great action and art and I'm not sure about Nightwing and Barbara Gordon's relationship since in Teen Titans he's banging Starfire. But I like how Nightwing grows and takes the next step in helping people in need not as a superhero, but as Dick Grayson. I was honestly nervous and worried that Nightwing was going to reveal his identity when he talked to Superman, but thankfully he did not.

Excellent numéro de Nightwing #83 ! Il réussi sur plusieurs fronts : Action, superbe scène entre Blockbuster et Nightwing, les crayons son magnifiques et la mise en scène très réussie. On a clairement envie (besoin?) d'en voir plus. Caractérisation des personnages, ça fait plaisir de voir un personnage entouré d'amis et de sa famille. Trop souvent, les héros sont seuls et peu enclins à demander de l'aide ou l'avis d'autrui. Comme si évoluer en solo et être traumatisé garantissait un héroisme plus grand. Ça se discute. J'aime voir Babs à ses côtés et Tim aussi. Ils forment un noyau que l'on veut voir intéragir encore davantage. Thème : ma réserve est ici. Donner une conscience sociale oui, à condition de confronter le personnage à ses engagements. Je me souviens que Beatrice (dans l'Ere RIC Grayson) s'occupait de lutter contre la gentrification de son quartier à cause de projet immobilier véreux. Ce serait peut-être le moment de refaire venir ce personnage qui pourrait servir de guide à Dick et mettrait un peu de sel dans sa vie amoureuse. Romance : Oui pour Babs and Dick mais ça reste trop peu pour moi. Nightwing est un personnage qui tombe amoureux comme on tombe d'une chaise. Sincèrement et très souvent. Et pourquoi pas ? Dick ne doit pas être parfait, ce serait dommage. Un personnage sympathique et fort qui présente quand même quelques défaut est plus interessant qu'un personnage PARFAIT mais lisse. Attention à ne pas rendre Nightwing sans aspérité. Il est rusé, intelligent, hyperactif et peut être violent quand il poussé à bout, voir de mauvaise foi et sans pitié (re)découvrez les runs de Dixon, de Devin Grayson et d'autres). C'est un personnage plus complexe qu'on ne donne à voir. J'ai de grandes attentes pour la suite. Vivement le mois prochain. more

This issue really shows off Dick's humanitarian qualities. While he still has a few worries to think about, it's high time to get back to Dick's task at hand. Dick takes inspiration from a number of sources including Alfred, hence why he names his plan after him. Also his networking to make his plan work. In terms of the overall goal, it might just touch a piece of real world efforts by non-profits. A number of them work way better than government plans to get people off the streets or prevent the deaths of the homeless. Pardon me if I don't remember all their names. But then there's the conflicts I feel Nightwing will be facing. Bludhaven, true to its name feeds off the suffering of the people Dick tries to help. With threats like Block buster and Heartless prowling about, Dick is going to face an uphill battle. Dick/Nightwing may be resourceful, but he's still liable to human error. As the last and current issues display when confronting Melinda display. And that's just in this book. Considering developments in the Batman and Titans books, he won't have as good of the support when his relationships between Lucias and the Titans will be in jeopardy. more

A) The issue was amazing the writing was solid, dialogues are well writing but yes the action is missing the whole are so expect the action to increase especially its fear state for couple of months now. Quick question, the issue had Damian Congratulate Dick for opening a "Alfred Pennyworth" foundation on the BAT-FAMILY group chat. soooo..... is Damian in contact with the family now because I believe he is on his own in his Solo Robin run. I am guessing this takes place after next weeks Robin (issue 5) as in that all robins are supposed to meet up. B) The characters were okay, Blockbuster is seriously boring knock off of Kingpin as per right now, idk if they change him going forward. Initially thought Heartless was the villain for this arc but seems he might a bigger role either in fear state or afterwards. C) So is dick in relationship with Barbara or Kory because he is sleeping with Kory in shitty book called Teen Titans Accademy so? I would be happy with both if done well, right now I have more trust in Tom Taylor to do Dick/Barbara better so will see. I just hope the relationship doesn't end in infidelity like Barbara sleeping with Jason or something. D) The is probably the only book I am really exited for fear state as other books like Batman and detective comics have been like fillers with noting particularly exciting. Catwoman book is nice but the recent issue still is putting Bat/Cat over actual characterization. Ps. I am still most exited about the Robin book but it will be outside of fear state that's why I didn't mention it. I list things I like with Things I didn't my reason of giving it a higher mark would be that this book is still attracting my interest for me to read the next issue and the writing isn't bad at all for me to drop it. more

This is basically the Bat-family book I always wanted. Pretty much every interaction was perfect with the standout part of the issue being the conversation between Dick and Clark. Taylor absolutely nails the dialogue between the two, showing a great grasp of the DC Universe at large and the role Dick should play as the heart of it. The big foundation reveal was heartwarming too and Redondo's art sold all the little emotional moments that were packed in.

It saddens me greatly that a book I really enjoyed is starting to have someone's twitter feed copy-pasted in place of characters' dialogue. But I guess billionaires/millionaires are evil and having money is a sign of a soul corrupted beyond repair. Whew, thank heavens Bruce Wayne is no longer one, he can be a proper hero now. Oh, no, but now Lucius Fox is evil. Ah... right, silly me.

This just all feels extremely hollow. Instead of learning about Dick's great revelation all there is, is some fluff that falls apart the second it is looked at a little more closely. I thought I would come back for the next not-a-tie-in arc, but at this point it is clear that Taylor does not write a Nightwing I enjoy.

This is such a low-effort, silly, childish comic! It's one of the reasons Taylor is probably the most overrated writer in the industry at this point. He tries to tackle very complex issues by coming up with the most juvenile answers. Yes, a lot of the issues Nightwing (or should I say, Tom Taylor, because Dick here is just a mouthpiece for him) brought up are serious and some of them are really ignored by authorities (like homelessness for example, which is ironic because that's a big issue especially in big cities in America that vote left-wing but don't tell Taylor that, the lefty in him would go nuts). But throwing money at problems rarely, if ever, solves anything. And especially the way this is done is ridiculous. It would have made A LOT more sense for Nightwing to not throw all his money in a "program" that he doesn't know if it will work or not and do it more judiciously. But then again, that wasn't really the point of this, the point of it was for Tom Taylor to vent a little more with his hate for billionaires that make a lot more money than him. They'll still be doing more than you even after this, Tom, deal with it like the rest of us non-billionaires do. The people who rate this with 10 are either very childish or they do it for ideological reasons. Some of them do it because they don't like their comics to have too much thought put in it but some I know for sure are doing it for the second reason. And it's the reason Taylor comes up with issue too. Overall I rate this higher than usual because of the action and because the character shows heart. He doesn't show a lot of mind unfortunately. more

@fenix: Thing is, despite what idiots think, I don't have a problem with Dick being generous. My problem is that Taylor ALWAYS aims to tackle very serious issues in the most juvenile and silly, feel-good way. Which is getting him the popularity he has from people that don't think too much about the causes he's discussing about. All he talks about is surface level, at the easiest analysis you realize he doesn't actually have any answers, just cheap moralizing.

I don't care too much about that annual, I'm disappointed of DC's decision to drop the guns for Red Hood and I feel like he won't get them back for a long time, in all the future solicits he has knives and swords, no guns. And regardless of what morons try to say, yes, it is because of ideological reasons, not story ones. DC dropped the guns for the same reason Marvel hasn't published a Punisher book in a long time: their aversion to guns.

Cheers Merlyn. You and I don't agree on everything but the important stuff we re on the same page. Everything you said is true particularly in the effect on our allies. Without getting too bogged down I think some of this nightmare in Afghanistan is by design.
