Don't mind them. I hate toxic Nightwing fans. They are so traumatized that their entitlement becomes irrational.

Feb 25, 2021Taylor, Redondo, Lucas, and the whole team have done Dick Grayson and his history justice. This being a high-profile launch, I can see why DC didn't need a new costume or a #1, because the story sells itself without the hyperbole. Mar 16, 2021Some creative teams like to go to high profile books as the title ensures a steady, rarely wavering readership. Mar 17, 2021Nightwing #78 made me cry like a newborn and that is fitting. This could have easily been Nightwing number 1. Taylor didn't need to do that because in the new mixed up Infinite Frontier world, Alfred is still dead (sadly) and Dick Grayson is still the hero we all deserve. Mar 16, 2021By focusing on Dick as a man, Nightwing #78 avoids a lot of pitfalls that appear at the start of story arcs. 10/10 Bravo! Dick Grayson can carry a story by his wholesomeness and goodness alone. He is the heart of the DC universe. Nightwing was hyped to be the best series this year and I am happy to say Tom Taylor met the expectations. If this continues I might prioritize Nightwing over Daredevil again.

This was a beautiful character focused introduction to Taylor’s run on Nightwing. I’ve always thought of Dick as being one of my favourites in the Bat Family and I’m thrilled that he has an appropriate writer and status quo again. Also, Bruno Redondo’s art was dynamic and filled with plenty of gorgeous spreads and panels. The cover itself is worth the price alone but I’m happy to add this to my pull.

After an overly long slog through the Ric Grayson saga, it's fantastic to see Nightwing back where he belongs. With Tom Taylor at the head of this new arc, there's a lot of promise for this series. Taylor introduces a lot of interesting ideas: a deepening of Alfred's relationship with Dick; Dick's lifelong penchant of standing up to bullies; how the loss of the Wayne fortune has rippling effects beyond just Bruce. Bruno Redondo and Adriana Lucas do a fantastic job with the art for this issue, and I'm excited to see what this team brings to the table in future issues. It feels like the team wanted to go back to basics with Dick, bringing in a classic enemy like Blockbuster and a surprise change to the political landscape of Bludhaven. I woul d love to see this story play out over several arcs, rather than just however long this particular one is going to be. If you haven't already, grab yourself a copy of Nightwing #78. You won't regret it. more

This is JUST the fresh start Nightwing needs! Great art (maybe the best ever?), great writing, seemingly great supporting cast. Really looking forward to the Dick/Babs relationship and it seems like Blockbuster is well written again! The flashback sequence make me want a spinn off with Dick and Babs in their teens (Robin: Year Two). I really have high hope for this one! This creative team may be the best thing that has happened to Nightwing since the Dixon era.

This is my first Nightwing comic, as, from the reviews, I was expecting something game-changing along the lines of "The Anatomy Lesson" from Swamp Thing #21. Instead I got another comic where the hero becomes a millionaire (why?), comes out against bullying (controversial!), and gets a new Bathound origin story. I'm sure I missed something significant, but that's my 2 cents.

Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo are doing something special. In one of the first scenes Taylor does the Alfred/Dick relationship better than anyone has ever done. Dick has a nice dog and Babs is amazing. The perfect mix of cute, badass and funny. I like how Blockbuster is going to be a character similar to Wilson Fisk and the Zucco familly will be an interesting enemy. The colours and art are both fantastic. The action scenes are good. And that ending, oh perfect.

SUCH A GREAT START & RETURN TO FORM. I stopped reading nightwing after Sam Humphries Nightwing: The Untouchable because that is my favorite nightwing run & it went downhill after that. I also didn't care for when Dick Grayson got shot, so I wasn't reading nightwing for a while. But once I heard that one of my favorite writers, Tom Taylor, was writing nightwing, I made sure to read the first issue. And he delivers. I love everything about this first issue. From the art, the establishment of Nightwing's beliefs, his struggles/challenges, the usual supporting characters like Bats & Blockbuster, to the introduction of Melinda Zucco, all sets up what seems to be a return to form but also an invigorating, electrifiying start for both the char acter & Taylor's take on said character. My favorite moments is the beginning of this issue & the end. Taylor sets up this very, very close friendship between Barbara & Dick that I can't wait to see more of. It was so touching seeing Babs lending her hand to dick while reading Alfred's letter. It's so heartfelt & real. more

I’ve been waiting for this, and it delivers well. Every line in this Issue shows that Taylor and Redondo know Dick, that they prepared for this gig! Something I can’t say about most other creators of the past three-ish years. It’s finally the new beginning fans have been waiting for, ever since Dick officially stepped back into the back-and-blue. Maybe even with some old additions? Now that Dick has a certain building from the pre-Flashpoint days back (a yay to bleeding timelines!), I hope Taylor and Redondo will reintroduce some old friends that I already wanted to see back when Rebirth started. Overall, the Issue is character-focused. Dick’s motivations are placed in the foreground together with his relationships with Alfred and Barbara. But the story also sets up a new mystery by introducing a new foe. Not to Nightwing, but to Dick Grayson, it seems. One component of this story I wasn’t sure about is Babs. Especially in the last months, their interactions have been written rather… interestingly, meaning it leaves them both look bad in extremely different ways. Thankfully, Taylor writes them better. Adriano Lucas’ colors really showcase that neon feel of Blüdhaven Seeley introduced in his Rebirth run, and I am glad it’s staying. Considering Blüdhaven is right beside Gotham, it needs to be different. And Dick is much better suited for a Las Vegas-like city in my opinion. I wouldn’t say this is “Leaping into the Light†quite yet, but the story is preparing for take-off. Edit: I feel as if people didn't realize that the Issue never stated that all of Alfred's fortune went to Dick, but ok... more

Just for context, I’m not a regular Nightwing reader, nor even a regular DC reader, but the cover caught my eye and someone at my LCS described this as a good jumping on point, so here I am. Seems like there’s some weird brigading going both ways on this issue, but this ain’t that. It DOES make a good jumping on point. I’m honestly a little surprised that DC didn’t kick off a new volume with this. That does mean it doesn’t get too deep into anything, but what’s there is interesting enough to make me want to keep reading. It’s well paced, and leaves just the right number of hooks in place by the end. There are some bits that are a little predictable, or familiar, but they work well enough within the whole. Thereâ €™s one moment that hit a little harder than I was expecting emotionally, but demanded I loosen my grip on some bat-universe conventions in exchange. Ultimately, I think it was worth it, and hope it was a sign of what this creative team will be able to pull off once they’ve established more local stakes for these characters and this story. I liked it. It’s not my new favorite series or anything, but I’ll be back for the next issue to see where it goes. more

This could be the start of a fantastic Nightwing run. I love the overall tone and inclusion of Babs (as Oracle) as a supporting cast member. The flashback to Dick's childhood brings emotional weight to the present day events. This is how you make Nightwing a series that stands on its own and isn't just Batman Jr. If I have reservations, it's that the character who seems to be set up as the villain of the first arc is a retread of an older concept that I was never a fan of to start with.

The book was okay. Nothing to get excited about. I do hope that Babs is not a part of it for long. I totally dislike her character or them as a couple. I've always thought they fit better as sort of brother sister team rather then a couple. I found the whole Alfred being super rich and leaving his money to Dick unbelievable. If the was to leave his money to any of them I feel it would've been Jason. The son that seems to get crapped on by every other bat family member. Alfred seemed to be the only one that accepted Jason for who he was. And rightly blamed Bruce for Jason going the route he did. So I don;t feel he would leave every thing to Dick.

SenpaifenixJäger - Mar 16, 2021nooo lol I respect your tastes, but I do not like Barbara for Jason, she is very old and the hot potato of the Bats. I loved Artemis for Jason, Rose is not so bad. But Barby mmmh. On the other hand, I agree with you, Jason is the least protected and most needy, Jason has been the one who has been most attached to Alfred.
LunaMoody - Mar 16, 2021Oh I'm not saying that Jason and Babs would make a good couple at all.NO NO NO !!! I don't like Babs at all and don't want her with any of the Bats. I thought was totally gross when they paired her with Bruce. Gross on so many levels !!! I'm not even sure why you thought I wanted Jason with Babs. But no I'd like him with Artemis also

When I went to the comic shop I had the opportunity to look at the Nightwing's 78, not a bad, Buuut was not good enough to make the decision to acquire it. Redondo's art is quite decent without being exceptional, the story focuses on moments that try to reach the heart, but for someone who is a fervent reader of Marvel, Anime and books from mystery novels to Drama, I felt that everything was very rushed. I didn't feel me conect emotionally. The Alfred's letter, OMG was beutiful, the sweet company of the faithful Barbara at his side...... But i have one problem, something felt wrong, like Alfred's love for Dick was exaggerated. Sorry I didn't buy that idea, Alfred is my favorite supporting character. Hate when he was murdered. And now I feel that they use their memory to hurt the reader over and over again in order to seek empathy towards a character, perhaps it is the second time they insist on Dick since the one most present in Alfred's problem was Damian, the poor man child who was traumatized thanks to the ineptitude of his own father. There is a bit of a fight on Dick's part against juvenile puppy abusers, (Damian would be proud of that). Just one more thing. JUST STOP, ONLY STOP, i telling any Nightwing's writer,if comedy is not your thing, just don't do it. We know Dick is the guy with jokes and funny situations. But ENOUGH, since Batman behaving crying like a baby, throwing a massive tantrum because a cat left him on the roof the funny is'nt work to Nightwing. If KG didn't shoot him. I would have done. ruin the comic. Don't do it. more

5.0
This number is a cliche. Taylor feels the desperate need to bet on Dick's emotional and exalted values (if you ask me, this doesn't flow naturally). But after reading other competing comics, this doesn't work for me. This issue opens with DC's favorite couple where in this variable story Barbara meets Dick, and Dick is a hero like he always does. It was nice to see the rescued dog (really a cliche). We have an unexpected visit from Barb, and to show that as the female of the Bats, she is the only one who can surprise Grayson in his attack on his part. Tremendous cliché. Alfred's letter extolling him and almost naming himself almost his father SEEMED VERY EXAGGERATED TO ME AND I DON'T FEEL LIKE ALFRED AT ALL. I understand that the old butler loves, that in the DC world he doesn't give Dick something that could be his first grandson, but Alfred has shown concern for everyone and it annoys me a bit, which is like Alfred is a bad grandfather, just help the prodigal son who knows he gets a good allowance from Bruce (Batgirl 50) that I doubt he gets the red sheep of the family, the boy who sat with the butler in restaurants get together, the boy who sends gifts, even though he's crazy after splashing in the well, the guy who respects him more than anyone in this family. But since it is DC and for them it is only Dick who must be helped, conceited and overwhelmed. What about Damian (but he will always receive the support of his father, has he not been tremendously lenient with the cold blooded murders of the child, love would say unconditional) Tim the loyal and caring boy, much more sincere than Dick and the rebellious young man Jason, whom everyone in the batclan needs to despise and abandon because it is a requirement for DC that it be so. In this way Alfred pulls the others away, delivering a beautiful letter and all his money from his side to the much adored and supported by all Dick Grayson. Because Taylor needs to make Dick'll be more loved than the character do, uses Alfred's love and death to make points for him. It's the same think they do it in FS forced the team Nightwing and next batman. C'mon. If we're going to justify this, REMEMBER THAT ALFRED HAS SOMEONE WHO LOVES THEM ABOVE ALL AND IT'S BRUCE WAYNE, HIS SON Alfred was the one who raised and loved him as a father figure. Which leads me to ask, what about Bruce? the money ... mmmh no Alfred does not give money to Bruce Because the philanthropist has so much money that he not only spends it on his own children, allies, technology etc, without or also HAS ALWAYS DONE IT IN SUPPORT OF THE CHARITY OF THE CITIZENS OF GOTHAM. Batman is not only a vigilante who risks his life night after night despite the fact that he is an abusive father, but also as a person who cares for the homeless. He deserves no credit, when he has done MUCH MORE THAN GRAYSON HIMSELF. With fewer smiles, of course. And then comes the really interesting part of the number: "Kingpin has come to DC and parked his limo on Blud!" (obviously I know it's not Marvel's Kinpin and we know both editors copy each other) a new villain who may or may not be interesting. We know it in the following numbers. In conclusion, it is not a book that I will buy, but I will tell you that the price is fair. The story is not bad at all if you like something emotional (a little cliché) and the fan of Ur Dick this number is for you, if you go for the action and you do not like Nightwing turn around, there is not much to see here. I will give it a 5/10 for the excesses in the cliche.and for distorting an incredible character like Alfred, that made me very angry. more

yesterday I had a lot things in mind, I did the count wrong. In these times where the reader can read the comic for free and with DC's exaggerated price increase a mediocre story with mediocre art isn't enough to buy it, many fans are tired of this, bad stories at a high price. Fortunately, Nightwing is the cheapest comic sold so far, which seemed fair to me. It's not a spectacular start, a critic described it like a simple story. Obviously, with the hungry for the regular comic the fans see it wonderful, unlike those who are neutral. Story: 0.5 Action: 0.4 Interesting: 1 Humor: -1 Emotionality: 1 (It's not strange to see Dick cry for anything, he is a character like a soap opera.) I know Tom Taylor fans will be in awe of this but I find his writing more and more juvenile as years pass by. Plus some decisions and lines here are completely wrong. "Bruce may feel you should only be a hero when wearing a costume". Really? Dude has pomped a whole lot of money into Gotham, he's no.1 philanthropist, he's helped people by playing stupid in his Bruce Wayne identity whenever it was an incident near him. From where did Taylor come with this stupid notion that Bruce only helps as the Bat? And Alfred leaving his whole fortune ONLY TO GRAYSON? What about Jason, Tim or Damian? One thing I always loved about Alfred is that he didn't play favorites with the Robins, he cared about them all in a unique way. Doesn't really sound like hi m to give his fortune only to one of them and leave the rest in the wind. But hey, it's Tom Taylor, he doesn't think about these things very much. Redondo's art is very dynamic, it's a shame that the writing does him no favors. more

Svarietyy - Mar 16, 2021I don't know what it is about Taylor but I find his books awfully predictable and boring, I suppose his humor not connecting with me plays a part into it as well
Weird Science Jim - Mar 16, 2021I think the hero line is that Bruce would want dick to keep a low profile when he isn’t in costume as it goes with this situation. And, I fully expect that Alfred left the money to Dick because of what was going on in the Bat-Family the last year, (he updates the will each year he says), knowing that Dick would distribute it out to everyone when appropriate
SenpaifenixJäger - Mar 16, 2021And that was another Alfred mistake, as if being Dick was fair enough to watch for others besides Damian and Barbara. PLEASE
SenpaifenixJäger - Mar 16, 2021I'll be honest, if they hadn't overrated this number so much, I would have completely passed it by. Although it was going to be great. But is not.
Merlyn - Mar 16, 2021Bruce managed to make a fool of himself before while not in costume whenever the situation needed him to act. In a Clark Kent-stumbling-on-to-save-people kind of way. So the whole line would make sense if Bruce would be the type of hero who cares so much about his identity that he would turn a blind eye to injustice. But that's not who Bruce Wayne is, regardless of Taylor trying to send that message because he's obsessed with hating billionaires.
Merlyn - Mar 16, 2021And as a Jason fan I know for a fact that Alfred would never leave him like that. He always understood Jason maybe more than anyone else, I don't buy the whole leaving everything to Dick and leaving Jason in the wind, even if Dick would take care of him. He wouldn't be that impersonal with someone who was like a son to him. There's a pattern here already, Taylor tries to diminish the well constructed Batfamily relationships between other characters just to make us feel like Nightwing in special.
Weird Science Jim - Mar 16, 2021The bat family has been a mess for years! Well constructed? Damian is a killer again, Batman almost beat Jason to death for what he did to the Penguin, They thought Tim Drake was dead and he came back and split! Even Barbara called them all out in that awful Castelucci Batman #50! In the last couple of weeks even - Damian is back with Talia and Jason looks like he killed a man! Give the book a chance! It’s one issue and you are writing it off as Tom Taylor destroying the Bat Family!
Weird Science Jim - Mar 16, 2021As an aside, we have no idea what he left the rest of the family either
Merlyn - Mar 16, 2021The relationships are well constructed, yes. Damian was never a saint to begin with, honestly I think he's been too restrained for a long time, even though I liked most of what Tomasi's done with him and I didn't like the direction DC took him in these last years, it's really not a huge stretch for a kid who's been indoctrinated that the world is his to rule. Batman didn't beat Jason to death, yeah he gave him a rough fight, but it's not like that's the first time that happened.
Merlyn - Mar 16, 2021I can see you're a Taylor fan because you're way too defensive for this book. I should say, I loved his Injustice, he basically got me back into comics with his Injustice but ever since then his writing has gotten worse and worse to the point I'm wondering why I'm even trying. Cringey humor, endless rants about billionaires and capitalism, doesn't give one shit about previous character relationships in a very Bendis-like kind of way, way too many cheesy moments.
Merlyn - Mar 16, 2021He does write action pretty well, I'll give him that. Btw, are you the guy from Weird Science DC Comics?
Weird Science Jim - Mar 16, 2021So you think that since rebirth, the barn family has been strong? And I said ALMOST beat him to death... and now he’s killed a Joker and a guy last week! Batman won’t even work or talk with Jason because he said he’s a killer!
Merlyn - Mar 16, 2021He will work and talk with him in the next issues, he always does eventually, regardless of their ideological differences. He hates that Jason throws in his face all his shortcomings and stand for a lot of things Bruce despises but at the end of the day he's still his son, the son he failed and he'll always try to make up for it in the end.
Merlyn - Mar 16, 2021I think that overall the Batfamily has some strong relationships forged in time. The relationship between Alfred and Jason is a solid one, it was before Rebirth and it's the same after. I think that Taylor dismissed that with this thing.
Weird Science Jim - Mar 16, 2021I know he will, but that’s the Bat Family right now. Since Tom King barely acknowledged them, Ric Grayson couldn’t remember them, etc, they ave been in disarray and hopefully, they come together in all the books. Maybe this is Alfred’s move to get Dock to bring them together like he does. I don’t know. Again, it’s one issue and we don’t know what the rest got... I asked Tom Taylor and we’ll see what he says
Weird Science Jim - Mar 16, 2021After 2 years of ric grayson, I was happy to get this issue as a reset of all that shit and now Dick can move forward
SenpaifenixJäger - Mar 16, 2021Wooow stop, did I kill a Joker in canon? does that influence Urban Legends? because I didn't see that mentioned. Can you be kind enough to explain please @WeirdScienceJim
Weird Science Jim - Mar 16, 2021Jokingly though, Dick deserves it because he is the best Robin and my favorite character in comics
Merlyn - Mar 16, 2021That I understand, especially of you're a huge Grayson fan, these last few years have been torture. Still, in the process of trying to uplift fans like you, Taylor diminished the relationship between Alfred and the Batfamily and he diminished Bruce's character. And I pretty much hated that. I didn't particularly enjoyed the rest of the issue either. You've rated this with 10, I can see you're a fan, cool. I'm not, I'm sorry to say. Other than the art I didn't enjoy anything out of it.
SenpaifenixJäger - Mar 16, 2021hahaha and I'll tell you something @WeirdScienceJim is valid, it's your tastes. What is not valid are the neurotics who complain and insult that you do not have the same tastes. There are many of those.
SenpaifenixJäger - Mar 16, 2021@Winterisnear I suspected the same, nobody has clarified if the Bats know that it was a blank shot, it was not even an actual assassination attempt. Jason didn't deserve such treatment, but it was a good drama without a doubt.
Merlyn - Mar 16, 2021I think that it was supposed to be an actual assassination attempt but DC wouldn't want to lose one of the best villains they have and so Lobdell had to come with that crappy and convoluted "explanation" with rubber bullets or whatever. I think that at the time Jason was angru enough to kill Penguin then and there but the again, that's a DC problem, they don't have the guts to kill major villains.
SenpaifenixJäger - Mar 16, 2021We already know how DC takes care of its villains, that is why the Joker is untouchable. So they as he does not have the slightest idea of how to carry the continuity. That is why I am not going to give this book or another undeserving book a chance, with the obvious exception of what involves Jason Todd. It would take a good story for me to invest in that DC comic, they really disappointed me.
Weird Science Jim - Mar 16, 2021Jason didn't kill the Penguin - Batman called him a Killer in urban legends and i don't think he means from before since they worked a lot of that out since
Weird Science Jim - Mar 16, 2021Tom Taylor did say the whole family recieved the same amount at the will reading, including Julia. Who knows if that's actually true or if we will ever see that at all!
Weird Science Jim - Mar 16, 2021@Winterisnear they already dealt with what he did with the Penguin and Oswald didn't die. The reason I said it's the Joker is Batman let Jason back into Gotham (with rubber bulllet rule), but now won't work or talk to him because he is a "killer". The timeline is still a bit wonly but it seems like it can only be the Joker. Zdarsky's Urban Legends story feels like a side-sequal to Three Jokers the way Babs is talking to him too. Who knows with Infinite Frontier timeline stuff though
SenpaifenixJäger - Mar 16, 2021to find out, maybe Chip will clear it up in his penultimate issue, we'll have to wait. It's great that Chip asked the story of Hood, I think after Lost Days (I love it) and Three Jokers is the best thing that has been written about Red Hood, obviously it is not perfect but it is very good, there are many repetitions in the dynamics Buce and Jason, you know some Remake.
Weird Science Jim - Mar 16, 2021yep - I would like a lot of things cleared up going forward with an open timeline, there may be some changes
Merlyn - Mar 18, 2021It wasn't on purpose, I'm just tired of people who praise everything Taylor writes when in reality he really isn't that good.
Merlyn - Mar 18, 2021Kind of agree with you there. There are a lot of King books that people just love and I find them very, very underrated. Including some that are pretty much universally acclaimed, like Mr. Miracle, which I for one didn't find that good. Still, every once in a while he manages to surprise me so I have to give him some credit. But one thing I like about King and I don't about Taylor is that he seems to try to elevate comics to another level while Taylor just revels in cringy internet humor level.
Weird Science Jim - Mar 18, 2021IMO, King tries to elevate HIMSELF to another lever and at this point, his books are all following a tired formula of mysteries without clues that end in ambiguous endings. It's actually funny because I like Tom Taylor because he writes comics to write comics while guys like King (IMO again) end up being embarased to just write a fun comic. Like they want to prove they are above the medium when they are at fancy dinner parties
Merlyn - Mar 18, 2021Agree again, he is very infatuated with himself and has a pretentious style that most of the times, if you strip it of his tired artifices, the essence of his writing is pretty thin. And yes, the payoff for a lot of his mysteries is rarely worthy. He's trying to be the next Alan Moore and in his mind he probably he thinks he is but that's not going to happen. And yes, his fans are very aggressive and condescending because he makes them feel smart even though most of the times they're not lol.
Merlyn - Mar 18, 2021But that's something I think King and Taylor fans have in common. If you look at the reviews here, there's a guy who thinks he "triggers the Lobdell fans" and there's another one that joins him in his disturbed fantasy. And it's not my first dance with Taylor fans, something I've noticed it happens with King fans too. After all, the two Toms are pretty good friends at least on social media, why should their fans not be annoyingly similar?
Merlyn - Mar 18, 2021Present company excluded of course, it doesn't matter that you obviously loved this and I hated it from the bottom of my heart, I have no problem with someone having different tastes than mine, as long as he has his arguments and he's not being insufferable about it.
Merlyn - Mar 18, 2021Lol, I just noticed I said King's books are underrated, obviously I meant overrated. :))
Mingthemerciless - Mar 19, 2021For me I can stomach Tatlor better than I can Kings self applauding style. He succeeded in keeping me from buying nearly 85 issues of my favourite character. That's some seriously bad storytelling. Taylor's at least has something of a feel for Dick Grayson.
Mingthemerciless - Mar 19, 2021I still maintain that despite their financial woes DC can get quality writers on the flagship books and get readers excited again. But you must start thinking vision and stories not gimmicks and constant resets.
Mingthemerciless - Mar 19, 2021Having said that I've read some previews of what Marvel is planning with Reborn 2 and they may be about to step on a rake themselves.
Weird Science Jim - Mar 21, 2021gimmicks are the worst, but resets can work--- if you don't keep messing up and needing to reset over and over! DC keeps messing up, so I have my fingers crossed
Weird Science Jim - Mar 21, 2021@merlyn you are do right that King tries to be Alan Moore but comes out as Alan Less!
myconius - Mar 28, 2021@Weird Science Jim - more than just a chuckle, good sir. ...that earned a well deserved Belly Laugh!! 😂😂😂

boring beginning, if I wanted to read something like that, I would look for twilight in comics.
