Avengers 1,000,000 BC provides some of the interpersonal drama and conflict that the current Avengers ongoing has been desperately needing, but does not devote enough time to expanding upon character relationships in any meaningful way. And it certainly does not succeed in making Thor's birth feel like a monumental event.

Carnage #5 places Detective Jonathan Shayde and Cletus Kasady on the back burner to remind you who this comic is really about. Carnage's journey towards godhood takes a more introspective turn that may, for the first time since this series began, leave you rooting for him to succeed...if only out of morbid curiosity.

The scope of Ram V's story continues to grow without ever alienating the readers. For such a wild ride, Carnagehas progressed so steadily that the inclusion of Norse goddesses and mythological creatures doesn't feel jarring in the slightest, which is an impressive accomplishment, to say the least.

Many different parties are now at play in Carnages quest for god-like power. Issue #7 does a fantastic job of elevating the stakes of its narrative while maintaining focus on the lone detective stuck in the middle.

While previous issues have not shied away from gore and disturbing imagery, Carnage #8 fully embraces the conventions of the horror genre for the first time and to great effect.

Carnage #9 establishes the next stage of the titular symbiote's mythical journey, and introduces a mysterious new character who could prove vital to bringing this quest for god-like power to an end.

Carnage #10 gives its titular character a major upgrade and sets the stage for a battle between the deadly symbiote and its former host, making for a solid issue full of tension and dramatic flare.

The long-awaited meeting between Cletus Kasady and newcomer Kenneth Neely finally occurs, delivering substantial drama that adds depth to both characters and builds up anticipation for a reunion between the Carnage symbiote and its former host.

Carnage #12 doubles-down on the dark nature of its characters with an issue that is bound to leave readers on their edge of their seat to see who will come out on top of this conflict, even if they're unsure who to root for at this point.

While Carnage's journey has delved into the realm of fantasy, his former host Cletus has taken a path towards science-fiction, providing a nice change of tone and scenery that makes Carnage #13 feel reinvigorating.

Carnage #14 piles more and more complexity onto the raging street battle between Cletus Kasady and Brooklyn's own Spider-Man, but with the comic's other, more intriguing plotline put on hold, it can't help but feel like Carnage Reigns is a detour that has gone on a little too long.

Carnage #6 takes a quick, superfluous, but also entertaining detour into Venom's multiverse before delivering another solid chapter of its crime thriller plotline.

Carnage #7 comes out swinging with a fun action sequence that never lets up. Flash Thompson's sour luck doesn't change, but he does gain some new allies in this increasingly tense battle.

Carnage #8 brings the vulnerability out of its reprehensible protagonist, revealing some unforeseen and fascinating connection to the character of Flash Thompson.

While the contents may feel a bit off-kilter for a comic with Carnages name slapped on the cover, Alpha is a splendid highlight reel of all the qualities that make Miles Morales a compelling character, and will most likely convince some readers to pick up Spider-Man's future adventures.

Carnage Reigns caps off this energetic and explosive battle with a hero team-up that provides the most endearing portrayal of Iron Man and Miles Morales in a while, making them a duo that readers will undoubtedly want to see more of in the future.
