Avengers #61 has the teen Starbrand, or Brandy, take center stage in this comic. Brandy is the main star of this comic, and readers' mileage will vary on that since she hasn't always been the most compelling character in this run. Not much is lost if you skip the issue. However, this issue does give Brandy some depth to her character that's mixed in with an interesting theme tied in with the Starbrand power and its users. Read Full Review

This comic asks readers not to think for a moment while reading it and it's likely most will continue not thinking about The Avengers after the final page is turned. Read Full Review

Honestly though I have loved Aaron's avengers run I haven't really cared for this current arc. That being said I really enjoyed this issue! While I still am not a huge fan of this current arc this issue was the kind of issue that is good enough to elevate an entire arc. I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes

I honestly think that Brandy is a character with a ton of potential that Jason Aaron never really did anything with, so I'm not happy about her probable death at the end of all this. I thought this issue was solid, but the problem with the arc and this title for a while now, is it all feels so disjointed. Issue to issue, I feel like there's no real progression, and nothing really matters. I'm hoping the Avengers Assemble event is more narratively satisfying, but my hope for that is slim.

It's just weird how an Avengers book finally has the Avengers show up for 4 panels and just be background characters. You know exactly where we're going but it's just not structured well. This series has all the components and ideas but Aaron and Editors' execution is not good.

Random comments: Is Brandy a seize-the-day type who ignores Carol's advice to play it safe, or a play-it-safe type who takes Jane's advice to seize the day? A historical Ghost Rider who doesn't ride anything and behaves like ones of the Goon's kid sidekicks feels like a rejected idea from a What The--? comic. The nine-panel page of Brandy punching Mephisto was exactly like a Powerpuff Girls villain beat-up scene.
