Jan 08, 2025As someone who has never been particularly drawn to Venom, I find the whodunit approach in this series refreshingly engaging, presenting a novel take on Venoms origin story. While the initial goofiness and the convenience of the confrontations didn't entirely win me over, the sheer thrill of the action and the unfolding mystery have me eagerly anticipating future developments. This is just a good time. I'm a little out of the loop because I didn't read the last Venom series but this has done a decent job of onboarding and expositing what needs to be. Dylan is great, I like the detective trio of Robbie, Luke and Rick. The mystery isn't even what I'm digging really, the story is just a fun ride.

I'm gonna make a prediction right now by hopping on the "the new Venom is Paul" train. I feel as though, with Ewing writing this, the identity of the All-New Venom will be someone not even in the initially proposed list of suspects. I feel like actually going with one of them is a little too obvious. Aside from that, this was a solid read, but still a little disappointing considering this was written by Ewing. Gómez's art is definitely a highlight, though.

This is missing so much. It's like venom has been so diluted it doesn't even matter what or who is in a venom book anymore.
