Whenever a guest artist comes on board, it's always a risk that the series will lose its momentum especially when the regular artist is as incredibly distinct as Hayden Sherman. But Kelly Thompson has worked with Mattia De Iulis before, and the two put together an incredibly surreal book with photo-realistic art. Read Full Review

Absolute Wonder Woman continues to encapsulate the bold ideas the Absolute line promised from the outset, and yet this is also a series that feels quintessentially Wonder Woman through and through, and it isn't likely to abandon that high bar anytime soon. Read Full Review

This book is really special and DC needs to do everything possible to keep Thompson on board and avoid the temptation to rush into crossovers or big Absolute Universe events. Absolute Wonder Woman doesn't need any super friends. Not when she's got these super creators crafting her adventures. Read Full Review

And the issue ends with a couple of one-page comics that Thompson wrote involving a young Diana that feel...they almost feel pulled out of a parallel dimension where lil Diana might have been on the comic strip page next to Dennis the Menace. Its sharply clever stuff that hits all of the right beats to be a single-joke strip in an era long after that sort of thing has become fashionable. Its a fun ending to a very fun issue. Absolute Wonder Woman #6 delves into the origins of Diana's lethal arsenal, revealing the secrets behind her Nemesis Lasso as she faces Hades after escaping the underworld. While the plot's pacing feels slightly uneven with a seemingly unnecessary Basilisk encounter, Kelly Thompson's character work on Diana and Mattia De Iulis' stunning artwork, particularly in portraying Diana's strength and Hades' unique personality, remain highlights. Weird Science - Gabe Hernandez

    Mar 26, 2025

Absolute Wonder Woman #6begins the long story of explaining how Diana obtained her special weapons and escaped Hell when Hades calls her to account. Kelly Thompson's script has the right concept and ideas, but the overwritten, ponderous dialog slows the issue to a crawl. Conversely, Mattia De Iulis's exquisite art makes this series look ten times better. Read Full Review

Why the hell is this site still including reviews by Gabe Hernandez? The guy literally gives EVERY single comic a low score. He single handidly is bringing down the averages of several great series on this site. His reviews read like rage bait in order to drive up hits on his page. The guy is a hack, and this site loses credibility by including his reviews. PS This issue is a 10.

The moment you find yourself applauding after finishing an issue... that's when you know it's a solid 10. Everything about it is top-notch, and the thought of waiting another month is unbearable. While we have a new artist on board for this issue, after just a few pages, the transition felt as smooth as a fine single malt whisky."

Another incredible issue of this run. Kelly Thompson once again makes great use of Greek mythology while still maintaining what makes Wonder Woman a compelling character in the first place. Her freeing Prometheus was a great example of this, peacefully asking the eagles to stop tormenting him. This issue had a different artist from the previous issues, illustrated by Mattia De Iulis, and his art is absolutely stunning. He has a great sense of scale. The shot of her first encounter of Prometheus and her first encounter with the Basilisk are some of my favorite shots of the issue. The Basilisk scene especially was great, referencing Wonder Woman's fight with Medusa in the main continuity by blinding herself. I really curious how the next issu more

I truly believe that Kelly Thompson has tapped into a source for inspiration we weren't ready for. Writing a Wonder Woman as a warrior and a Witch has expanded this character in so many ways. Not only we see a Warrior that uses witchcraft during fights, but also for preparation prior to a dangerous encounter, like with the Basilik for example. If you take inventory of everything Diana carries for battle, you could put her up there with likes of Batman and his utility belt. Specially since her magical pouch has "toon space". I find it so poetic that the Lasso of Nemesis passes judgement by granting pain equal to what the judged has caused on their victims. Especially since the Lasso was made from the blood of Prometheus, a god famous for the more

Absolute Wonder Woman continues to floor me and be the best series out of the Absolute line-up. I also really love the art for Mattia del Luis, I will have to check it out. It is so beautiful. James Gunn, all you need to do is base DCU Wonder Woman on this, and I guarantee you everyone will love it even more than Gal Gadot's version. This Wonder Woman is so based because she has a likable interesting personality with dialogue that is engaging, and her lore/backstory is so interesting. I am going to re-read her entire series back to back because of this issue.

The change of the interior art from Hayden Sherman to Mattia de Iulis was a little jarring, but it fits with this story, in my opinion, and Iulis is absolutely fantastic. So, I can't really complain that much. Aside from that, this was a well-written first half and I'm looking forward to more.

The art here is a definite step up. I'm just not a fan of Hayden Sherman's art. I'm also not a fan of the design for Hades. A blue glob just doesn't match the character. We already had the origin story of the lasso and now we get a second one. She also has two more lassos according to this issue. It feels like a completely different person wrote this one. I do like the ending, but I wish there was more story to this issue and not a rehash. Feels like a waste of the incredible art. My Comic Review Channel - https://youtu.be/t5ojtJNUCuQ
