It definitely impacted me. I cried like a baby when each time I read this issue. 😭😅
A routine night in Gotham City for a young Batman proves to be anything but routine when the crime-fighter is confronted with a sort of foe he's never faced before--one from beyond the stars! A universe of possible alien threats leads Batman to make a daring decision--to venture alone into the far reaches of the cosmos for the very first time, wher...
A quick read that had some emotion to it. It just didn't feel as impactful to me as it was intended.
New Story Arc. Patch isn't doing too good. He wasn't supposed to get scratched. He didn't mean to get bit, but... things don't always work out like we hoped. See the world through Patch's eyes in this frantic, frightening, standalone P.O.V issue!
Agreed. This is one of the few comics that I excitedly anticipate each new issue.
Im very very late. But this is great. I will be looking to get the entire series
Series Premiere. A new horror from the creators of Stray Dogs! Meet Elsie, Lord Fluffy Britches, and Patch, three indoor cats lost in the not-so-great outdoors during a nightmarish rabies outbreak. Without their humans to protect them, the cats rush to find their way home before they're eaten by the forest full of rabid beasts on thei...
The main story was excellent. Unfortunately, the two bonus stories that were tacked on really dragged the issue down.
That being said, the main story by DWJ was probably one of the best written issues of this entire series. I'm not sure if I enjoyed it as much as issue #1, or possibly even more! The story was graphic in all the best ways, gratuitous, and visually stylish. The ending wa more
Some of the biggest names in comics take a turn in the Absolute Universe! Daniel Warren Johnson and James Harren tell tales from Absolute Batman’s early days! How did Bruce acquire his batmobile? And what was it like for Black Mask’s party animals when Batman first hit the scene?
A good ending for an overall great run. Parts of the plot felt rushed but other than that, excellent writing and amazing art. samnee is a beast!
The fate of Gotham hangs in the balance as Batman and Robin battle through a horde of clay monsters that have overtaken the city!
Agreed. This was one of the more entertaining reads from DC in a while. But there were certain plot points that lingered a bit long, while other parts felt they could have used a bit more breathing room. This ending felt like it needed to play catch-up a bit too quickly.
Overall, this was a decent conclusion of the series. Some of the plot points throughout felt like a needless retread of Robin year one. But overall, I’m looking forward to getting this in collected hardcover.
The writing for this series has been decent. But it was the artwork that really made the series shine. This and Batman Dark Patterns have been the best series to come out from D more

I fell like this and dark patterns are criminally underrated. DP in particular is my kind of Batman story. It fells like an excellent Batman run from the early 2000.
I could not agree more! I'm waiting until Dark Patterns #12 releases, so I can put the full series in with my collection of Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight (1989) singles. It truly feels at home that series of "early carrer" Batman stories.
Since jumping on the series, this is probably my most reread issue. I was honestly devastated when it was revealed that Patch had been scratched by one of the infected.
This issue reminded me a bit of issue #12 of The Invisibles “Best Man Fall” by Grant Morrison. Not at how layered it was or loaded with symbolism. But more of the overall structure of having an entire chapter dedica more

It’s amazing when a comic book creative team works so well together, that they actually can get you to feel empathy towards, not only the main characters, but also the antagonists as well.
Kudos, Tony, Trish, Tone and colleagues!!! 🐱🐱🐱
THE BATTLE FOR PET CITY BEGINS!
Elsie and Lucky lead their crew against Mother Helena and her strange felines with the winner taking control of the pet superstore. The only problem is, what was once a safe haven is now filled with rabid BAD KIND!
I don’t like the constant renumbering of comics back to issue one … so I was already suspicious of Batman #1 even before I bought it, that being said I liked it. The main drawback is that it fails as a first issue - no explanation as to why Gordon is a 60 year old beat cop, or how Vandal Savage is the new police commissioner. Also it’s clear that Alfred is dead and only appearing in Bruce’ more

They do a new #1 for onboarding reasons. This has been done for decades. You're acting like this is new and somehow confusing. I get it, with age you lose your mental faculties but damn guys. Remember, comics are meant to cater to children. Pushing issue 232 in front of a kid instead of #1 even if the quality is better, a newcomer will gravitate to the #1. It's a marketing tactic as well as a way to delineate Fraction's start from the Zdarsky/Loeb runs. Marvel has done this far more than DC.
No. Rebooting a series for just the #1 and not resetting the cannon is very disingenuous on DC's part. Having James Gordon being booked down to a low level patrolman, and also having Police Commissioner Vandal Savage at the start of a reboot? and Ghost Alfred? ...that is going to throw off anyone not up to speed with prior runs, no matter how you slice it. There is absolutely zero defense of those being the standard for this supposed "jumping on" point.
This issue was a truly wonderful return to form, bringing the series back to the glory of its first story arc. The twist of who the culprit is, I honestly DID NOT SEE coming!!!! Absolutely BRILLIANT!!!
There were so many great moments throughout this issue. I’m not sure which I found more compelling, the interactions between Gordon and Lynns, Gordon and Batman, or (my favorite) Bruce more
With the mystery of the terrifying new arsonist’s identity hanging over his head, Batman finds himself at a crossroads with one of his allies. Is it possible they’re the mastermind behind the flames devouring Gotham City?
It blows my mind that some people don’t like Hayden Sherman’s art. If any series these year deserves a deluxe hardcover it is this one. Getting this and absolute Wonder Woman at the same time has been a gift. Sherman must have had the first six issues done upfront or something.
Wow! I can't believe anyone would have a problem with Hayden Sherman’s art. Hopefully it's not a large group? But i guess everyone has their own preference? ....I absolutely agree! I was really hoping this series would get a deluxe HC.
This is the creative team that should be working on Detective Comics.
A mysterious arsonist has been secretly guiding the growth of Gotham and Batmanfrom the shadows…now their dark design enters its final stage. Will this grand workbe a success, or will the world’s greatest detective douse the blazing plot before it’stoo late?
I just honestly wanted something other than what DC gave us for their main Batman series "reboot". It doesn't feel fresh or new, just more of the same old same old. Dan Watters has such a good handle on Bruce and his regular cast and all their distinct voices. It just would have been nice to get more of that on a regular basis. I'm happy that this 12 issue series exists. I'm just sad that it's ending and we're now left with an ongoing of a pretty 'meh' Main Batman title.
Even though i'm not 100% in love with Scott Snyder's 'Absolute Batman' series, it still is enjoyable that I look forward to reading it. It just feels like the limited out of cannon series are producing better stories than the main ones.
I really like this issue due to Bruce and Damian's relationship on how Damian feels guilty for them prioritizing being a family over being superheroes. Overall, every single Batman and Robin series have been great and consistent. From Grant Morrison to Peter J Tomasi to Joshua Williamson and now this. It's great to read Batman stories that are consistently high quality
The mysterious Quiet Man continues his brutal takedown of the Gotham underworld! Bodies are piling up with the Quiet Man’s signature silver coins in their eyes, until the killer and Batman finally face each other in combat…with shocking consequences! Which of them will walk away? And what dark secret from Gotham’s past is behind the Quiet Man...
After the first issue, I hoped for better... sadly this batman series is simply not meeting up the quality expectations of a main Batman series.
Sidenote: The art is flawless, as expected from JJ.
But the story, djeeez, it is so so unworthy starting from issue one, continuing in issue two.

The art was good. I get what Fraction is doing. Bad cops are bad. But that’s what Daredevil is doing on Disney-plus. I also don’t buy the premise that Vandal Savage is the police commissioner. That is just a bridge too far.
There is the b-plot where bat boys wash the Batmobile in broad daylight at the manor, I think. Damian is a brat and no one calls him on it. There are so many bat more

There is nothing here that constitutes this series being justified in getting a re-numbered, newly minted, brand new issue number ONE. The art is the only thing keeping this series alive. Matt Fraction (or Chip Zdarsky 2.0) is delivering some very mid writing that definitely will not bring back many to want to reread this story. I’m having enough of a time wanting to read it now.

Very good writing and art. The action sequences have been TOP NOTCH throughout. This is definitely a good series to keep up with.
I really like how Bruce and Damian and the relationship as Batman and Robin and father and son are written here. Bruce pointing out the details of their current case while Damian trains was a nice touch. The “she looked suspicious” part was really funny. more

This truly is the best Batman comic in a long time. I had no idea Marc Silvestri could write like this. I'm in awe of his art. An Essential Read for Batman fans and comic book fans!

When the Deadly Duo’s investigation brings them into the catacombs under Gotham, Batman and The Joker’s adventure becomes a trip into hell. If you thought this series had already shown you its horrors, get ready for a descent into the heart of darkness as Batman and The Joker’s true enemy is revealed.
Batman used to be an essential buy for me. Not anymore.
I was excited when Zdarsky was announced for this book and I thought his run started really well. More fool me. Jorge Jimenez is wasted on this comic.
THE GOTHAM WAR CONTINUES! Batman is on the ropes as the Gotham War heats up following a shocking betrayal! It's father versus son, teacher versus student in the knockout fourth chapter of this brutal war. But who is really pulling the strings in this explosive event? Thousands of years have led to this moment!
I've read all the collected volumes of this series (up to and including volume 6) and I must say that Dan Mora is doing all the heavy lifting here!!!
Waid's writing is just "okay". Nothing amazing, nor anything I'm really looking forward to giving another read. I did however force myself to re-read this first volume not too long ago, to see if it'd be worth continuing with this se more

Too early to say anything definitive. But I have worries. One of the reasons Robin was created was to give Batman someone to talk to. Now Bats has an AI holographic Alfred. That doesn’t strike me as mentally healthy, especially considering the fact that there are 174,964 Bat family members Bruce can talk with.
This better not be another arc where Bats learns the value of family. Just more

Goghfacekilla, I read other reviews and they stated Alf was an ai, but some said he was in Bruce’s mind. Either way, not healthy mentally, so I think my point stands. Thanks for keeping me honest. There are a lot of people Bruce can actually talk to. That is the trap of the Bat family. We love the characters, but we love “loner” Bats. But remember, Robin was introduced within a year of Batman. The always a loner thing is a myth. But let’s see where this is going.
Quinn, you review and assessments were a lot more fun to read than the actual issue itself! 😂 ....I agree with many of your points. Especially the part about Batman "getting rebooted to a tired status quo that leaves out charm, fun, and originality." ...I honestly could not have said it better!
I was initially blinded by the beautiful art by Jimenez, and it is gorgeous! So are the colours by Tomeu Morey. When I reread the story, I felt it was pretty basic overall. Yes, there's always going to be a lot of set-up in a first issue. But there were no major "wow" moments in the writing. The whole give-little-Croccy-a-toy-dinosaur plot felt a bit dumb on first reading, but after a re-read or t more

Dark Patterns #10 is off to a promising start. But I thought the same back when I’d first read issue #7, and I was honestly less than charmed by that arc. Hopefully this final arc will fare much better!!
The opening confused me as I’m not sure if this new villain is supposed to be psychic or omnipotent? Because he has 3 effigies each representing the protagonist of the previous arcs more

There are some wonderful father/son moments in this issue. As Well as some great character moments for both Bruce Wayne and Damian.

Case 03: PareidoliaBatman. Three criminals. One gun. One wound. One life. The heart-wrenching finaleof “Pareidolia” is here. Don’t miss it.
I'm not sure how much I buy the premise of replacing everyone with, well, hired goons, but the big switch from the rather bland Grimaldi to actual big name villains has really kicked this comic into overdrive.
Batman and Robin have their backs against the wall as Project Gemini goes into fulleffect! Can the dynamic duo figure out the General’s plan, or will Gotham be lost tothem forever?
it's shocking on how spread out Mark Waid is right now. Justice League unlimited, Worlds Finest, and this. But I genuinely like this series, it's my favorite out of the bunch. I hope this series runs for at least 24 issues.
Batman and Robin have their backs against the wall as Project Gemini goes into fulleffect! Can the dynamic duo figure out the General’s plan, or will Gotham be lost tothem forever?
This story is okay. But it will read much better in trade form, which it clearly seems intended for.
This really doesn’t read all that great in month to month format.
No issue issue in particular from this series really stands out. Everything just feels like one long drawn out single plot. Robin Year One was much more memorable and compelling with its episodic presentatio more

I had almost the same experience as you. It has glipses of brilliance, but overall, it is very underwhelming. But I like the space dog and the combat robot that befriends Bruce :)
Yeah, agreed! I really liked Punch-Bot and the dog was also a great addition to the story. I decided to get the kindle version once it went on sale. But I have yet to read it. It’s been so long I’ll probably have to read it all over from the beginning. But eventually I’ll get to it. 😁
