It's official. This will now be on my pull list. I love the charming Silver-age art style, and how it's just fun. I really am excited to read the next issue more than the majority of current comics right now. I like Sophie Campbell's writing for Supergirl and how she's more likable, and the story overall. I also love the chemistry with Supergirl and Lena Luthor

I’m usually not much of a Sophie Campbell fan! But this comic really gets Supergirl: it’s light, fun, with clever little nods to continuity, and exactly the kind of book I’d give my young nephews to spark their interest in comics. It’s not groundbreaking, but that’s not always what you’re looking for. It’s enjoyable, accessible, and, most importantly, it truly understands and respects Supergirl. I really hope it finds its audience, we need more comics like this right now. more

Sophie Campbell is making DC fun again. The silver-age campiness is such a joy to read. Art goes wonderfully with the style. 10/10 no comments.

Fuck yeah, we are so back

I actually loved this. Like wth, this was a banger issue and this whole arc has been really good. Are we actually getting back?

I hope this sentiment ages well. I really do.

An absolutely joyful comic, and of course with a creative team like that it looks amazing. It can be rough being a Supergirl fan sometimes, so a comic that leans into why she's fun is really a breath of fresh air!

DC has had major issues with Supergirl. In efforts to reinvent the character over and over they have given her so many personalities that she has no personality of her own. Is Supergirl a temperamental misfit that punches everything, is she a girl that heads down to seedy bar to drink when things get overwhelming, starts barfights and tells kids to sod off, is she a drugaddled suicidal kid, is she someone who would sacrifice earth for the glory of a Kryptonian society etc etc.

It has all been built on the well accepted lie that original Supergirl was Superman wearing a skirt, and DC must give her a new pigeon hole. But that's not what they are doing, they are shoving her into pigeon holes that are already filled with better suited characters. If I want true grit, I'll read true grit. If I want a badass sword slinger with attitude I'll read Red Sonja. If I want to read an evil character wearing black fetish gear, I'm sure there are places for that too. You come to Supergirl to read Supergirl.

The problem with Supergirl isn't that she is Superman in a skirt. Noone ever said "Phoebe" is just "Joey" in a skirt because they share the same species and have parts of their characters overlap. Everyone who has read Supergirl knows that her books read differently because of her experiences. The problem with Supergirl was that she was encroaching on the big man's space and making him less special. It's why they killed her, and it's still built into our society today. Whenever a woman takes a position seen as belonging to a man whether it's a new computer game or a top hire, it's "woke" or "dei".

Supergirl was always fine as her own character.

In the first issue Sophie cleans the board and brings back Silver-age Kara. It is just as good as it ever was. Sure, the stuff that happened before has still happened, that's the curse of comics isn't it, but she dips into the history that makes sense for the character and ignores the rest, leaving us with a wholesome coherent character that is a joy to read.

I don't know if Supergirl was the first character of her choice to write, but whether or not it was, she left all baggage at the door and decided to write Supergirl. She didn't bring some other story she had been carrying in her head for some other character and plastered Supergirl on top. This reads like Supergirl from the first to the last page in every frame. Sophie has done the research making the issue a veritable feast for long time fans of the character, and giving new readers hooks to go back and research.

Sure this could still take a turn, we are just one issue in, and towards the end Supergirl might be boozing and bar fighting again, but judging this issue by itself, I couldn't have imagined a better starting position for her new take.

A wonderfully inventive locked room mystery that reads like Morrison doing Bronze Age Batman! I'm not a big Bat-fan, but based on this I would read the hell out of an Al Ewing run. My only complaint is that I'm not clear on the purpose of having a different artist for each act; while none of the art is bad, the artists' styles don't really mesh and they don't seem to have been chosen for their sections for any clear reason. The backup is suitably cute and charming. more

I swear to buddha, Absolute Wonder Woman is the best series coming out of the Absolute Universe. I will even sy it's top 3 best modern comic book series coming out right now. I really like the art, and Mattia De Lulis art impressed me so much.

This is how its done, delivering on every possible aspect of a must read comic issue/series.

If you somehow love reading comics, you're reading this series

All of the Absolute books fall somewhere between good and fantastic, but of the six of them this is the one that's really poised to take its place among the greatest portrayals of its protagonist. I haven't read a Wonder Woman run this good since Rucka, and frankly even Rucka wasn't this good every single month.

I really appreciate Professor X stand-in Etienne Lux's journey across the first eight issues from "problematic hot guy who I would 100% schtup if he was real" to "Thank goodness somebody FINALLY kicked that guy in the dick"

The first arc of this book was perfectly OK, the sort of thing that I solidly enjoy but don't eagerly look forward to. But this second arc is off to a very promising start, hearkening back to the days of Gotham Central with wonderfully moody and atmospheric art that suits the grimy noir tone perfectly. A very pleasant surprise

David Marquez coming back on art makes me happy

Let's start with the obvious.

The art is amazing. Just so beautiful. Welcome to ASM Pepe Laraz, I hope you are staying for a long time.

As for stories? Kelly did good. This is so much better than #61 was and I think it is because it feels like there is a direction here. We are actually going somewhere and not just waiting for plot to happen. That is great and Kelly uses his time here well. I have seen comparisons to Big Time and it certainly feels like that.

First backup is great. I love that Kelly continues to work on Norman's redemption. And it won't be easy.

Second one is... I do not like it. I hope this isn't a random magical hell-related bad guy that has zero connection to Spider-Man like Cyttorak or The Blight, or a friend turned demon like Kindred (that is actually a demonic AI controlling cloned bodies made from DNA of your nemesis and your former love with memories from your friend). Because neither of them worked. Kindred especially was bad.

And that brings me to my biggest problem here. I am not excited for this run. I have been this down before, and I don't want to be burned for the third time. And it's all because of the editor.

Lowe seems like a nice guy. I have nothing against him personally and he seems cool in his responses on letter pages. But his work output has been mediocre or terrible for the past decade, with some standouts. If two last runs of ASM suffered because of poor editing and somehow opposite mistakes, I think that tells something.

From the getgo, Kelly seemed like a safe pic. And that he is. This is a solid introduction. But for me, not an exciting one because editorial stays the same. more
