A solid start for this new ‘era’ of Amazing Spider-Man! In short, this first issue is fully used to introduce the pieces that will establish the status quo going forward. Not much happens, but that’s ok. After so many plot threads going on at once and what felt like a continuous unorganized setting, it felt great to enjoy a simple Spider-Man comic. A story that went from A to B and lays the foundation to organically move to C.
Like I mentioned, nothing necessarily big or mind blowing happens, but the possibilities for where the story can go are vast which I appreciate. Touching on the pacing, we are getting issues almost on a weekly basis so I’m ok with the modest approach that is taken. At least for now, as my biggest worry is
that it again turns into the dragged out cycle of the previous run.

Now, onto the actual comic. The issue is broken into two main plots - Peter trying to process the events resulting from the Kindred battle and the re-introduction of Ben Reilly to Spider-Man. While you will be left with questions, mostly pertaining to Reilly, the writing is concise and highly entertaining. There are a few moments where Peter’s responses or reactions seem a little out of character, but I’m attributing that to his current state of mind - It could also just be me though.
The artwork by Patrick Gleason is a sight to see! Every page he draws is a visual experience. He brings life to every character and the emotions they are experiencing. The subtle differences he depicts between Peter and Reilly while yet showing that they are in fact clones is a treat. I think that his action and fight scenes are some of the best in comics and I don’t think he receives the credit that he deserves.
It’s a new status quo for Spider-Man and I think it’s looking bright! Can’t wait for the next issue. more

Fantastic beginning from Wells and Gleason, I'm not a huge Ben Reilly fan, but this looks interesting, let's see where this goes.

I enjoyed this a lot! I almost have it a 10 but one minor gripe, maybe being a bit overly critical but a 9.5 is pretty good. First off, for me this was a comic I read and then immediately read again. You know it's good when that happens!
I'm a fan of Ben Reilly and was really hoping he would be written better than his last series a few years ago. And he was! I always enjoyed Peter and Ben's relationship at the end of the clone saga. They were like brothers and acted like family. The jealousy of who is a clone or not was past them. I can accept Peter not being at that point anymore after what was unfortunately down to Ben when Dan Slott brought him back but this issue looks like it's fixing that without ignoring it.
My minor problem.
.. I'm just not that into a spiderman with so many gadgets. I like the webshooters and costume with the occasional gadget thrown in when planned out. Spidey and gadgets for criminals go way back the beginning, so I can't say it's not something spiderman has down. There's been so many costumes with various powers. It just seemed a little over down here, like Ben had just the right wacky tech in his suit for multiple specific threats. Reminds me a bit of the campy bat belt that has a solution for everything. So that's really my only issue here, and it's just a completely subjective preference. If you like an OP spiderman then you will probably feel different and that's fine.

Ben is back. That's all that I need. I like this idea of Pete "losing" the Spider-Man mantle due to the most idiotic, simple and capitalist concept possible. Marketing. I'm also into Ben's, "I am the lesser of two evils and it was my duty to take this," mindset. I will always love Ben Reilly and I love even more seeing two Spidey's teaming up and cracking jokes. I was actually a huge fan of Superior Spider-Man because while Otto wasn't a "good" person, he managed to do more for the city in a very short amount of time. Did people appreciate him for it? No. Did he do it as a hero? Barely, but he still almost completely stopped crime because he used his tools, resources and a team to do it. It looks very similar for Ben and I am all for it. Pe
te did the same thing with Parker Industries I know, and I really enjoyed that aspect of that arc as well. Spider-Man is evolving, Pete is growing and Ben is back. I could not be happier. more

Fantastic. I lost count of how many times I dropped ASM with Spencer at the helm. This has revitalized my interest in Spiderman, and after being away for what feels like a long time I am very excited about this series and what's to come.

This was a mostly great issue. The emotional beats were all there; the writing was on point. I'm kind of worried that when Peter decides not to deal with his feelings about Harry, that's the writer saying that he's not going to deal with his feelings about Harry until the next run. I guess we'll just have to see. The art is great for the most part, although some of the backup art (for some reason, not done by any of the main artists on this book) was rough. A big selling point for me on this run was nostalgia, pure and simple. The Art Adams covers give such a nostalgic vibe to me, plus the return of so much 90s Spidey just cinched it. We do know exactly how long this run will last though, which is crazy that they'd tell us (Maybe in case sales plummet). 19 issues in total. I assume that they aren't counting the .BEY issues to that. But it's weird. I assumed this was going to be the run that got us to issue 900. Marvel usually likes to start and end things around nice, big round numbers. It could be nothing. Maybe the next big run wants to have something special happen in issue 900 instead of having the run start with that issue. We'll see. But as for *this* run, we're on a time limit and that is probably better that we know it. more

It was great, Wells and the Beyond board respected what Spencer did, all the characters were well written and the idea is great. Gleason's artwork is perfection, he is growing to be my favorite Spider-Man artist of all time.
This feels like a Spider-Man Inc., a concept that I like, and with that fantastic redesign of the original Sensational Spider-Man suit, this has the potencial of being a great run

this is a fine issue, which means compared to the previous 74 (plus side issues and annuals) from Nick Spencer, it's pretty damn good. It's a great introduction into this era of Spider-Man, bringing back the fun quippy dialogue, the simplicity of villains, and re-introducing Ben Reilly. It brings you up to speed on what Ben has been up to and how Peter is feeling after the Spencer drag that he's just been put through, feels kind of meta to be honest. The story is interesting, and I'm very excited to see what happens after that cliff hanger. The standout here is the art. Patrick Gleason just has that fun vibe that was missing from the majority of Spencer's run. Some of the best issues from Spencer's run were carried by Gleason art, so
it's great to see it again here. I don't think he will be able to keep up with the thrice monthly release of this book, but it was a good way to start off this era with a nice art bang. Overall, it's not the greatest Spider-Man book, but after Spencer's run, I'll take what I can get. more

Great first issue. Just when I think I'm out, Zeb Wells pulls me back in!! Wells is an outstanding writer as usual. I remember liking his writing the best along with Mark Waid in the 550s when there was a team of writers doing ASM after OMD. It is crazy to think that was 13 years ago and we're in a bullpen of writers yet again after a disaster set of issues...Yes Spencer I can't forget the mess you did. I didn't care so much for the back up stories especially because of the subpar art. Speaking of art, Gleason was FANTASTIC!! His inks were not as overpowering as usual so he played it tight and made his foregrounds pop and I liked it very much! Menyz's colors made his art look beautiful! Great start!

I'm both excited and scared about this new run, I think it's either TOP or FLOP and no in between. I appreciate the fact Zeb Wells acknowledged what happened in the ending of Sinister War (with Harry's death and everything else) and I mostly liked the issue. It's fun to see two Spider-Men interact and the concept of a corporation owning Spidey's identity is definitely something new and original. We'll see: it's more Yes than No as of now.

Not bad. Given the hype, you were probably suspecting this was going to spin straight out of Spencer’s run but it really didn’t. How Pete gets his ass kicked and gives way to Ben taking back over is all in this issue… and it’s not bad.

This was a lot of fun and Wells has a great voice for Peter. The Beyond Corporation stuff had a really solid hook. The idea of Spider-Man as a corporate property thanks to Otto is mostly brilliant. The fight between the U-Foes and Ben/Peter was fun too and did a lot of good work setting up the next couple months of stories.
This is also some of Gleason's best art since his Batman and Robin days with Tomasi. I've got much higher hopes for this than Spencer's run which was lukewarm, even at best, to me and focused too much on the past and not enough on the future.

Good set-up. I’ll be interested to see where this goes and I think the thrice monthly for six months style of release gives it a good length to tell an epic story that won’t bloat. We’ll see if that is a true prediction or just wishful thinking as things progress.

I gave up on ASM months ago but picked this up because of the good reviews. I'm glad that I did. Wells is a good writer, & I liked Gleason's artwork style. So what were the U-Foes up to in this issue?

Great starting issue! Really like these ideas regarding Ben as a corporate Spidey, per se, and Peter trying to continue his life whilst being the one and only true Spider-Man.

The return of Ben Reilly kicks off with some simple plot and character beats that are developed with formidable storytelling skill. I appreciate the creators leaving it up to us to connect some of the dots, though they do pull them pretty close together for us. The art is highly polished and it plays an important role in shaping the story. That initial nightmare is a really great way to start; it's some strong "show-don't-tell" character work. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Now that the Spencer run is over, I had to check this one out. It did not mention most of the stuff that happened, so it was an easy read. Patrick Gleason's art looked a little different than the usual, but it's great as always. Excited for the next issues.

Art was definitely good.
But storytelling wise, it's just meh. IMO it's downstep from previous run starting point. I can't say for entire Beyond era at now. I think it is even a downstep from previous issue. Spencer starting point was so better than this.
Ben Reilly looked like a corporate douchebag. I am gonna take away your mantle. I want you to be sidelined. You can't be Spider-Man. Instead of having Beyond Corporation agreeing on 3 Spider-Man in town, I will stop both of you from being Spider-Man. Atleast Miles didn't did this type of shit.
In Clone Saga of 90s, Ben didn't wish to be Spider-Man at all. It was Peter who passed the mantle to him. Now he wants to. Yeah, he had a reasonable reason of Beyond Corporation but he wants Pet
er to stop whereas in Clone Saga of 90s, he didn't do anything like that. It was Peter himself who stopped being Spider-Man. Even in Revelation arc, Peter wanted to become Spider-Man again. He didn't want Peter not to return to Spider-Man.
Kelly Thompson back up stories was quite boring. I expected much better work from her. Captain Marvel and Black Widow work for her is damn amazing. I want that level of work from her.
Beyond Corporation is suspicious.
How they knew Ben Reilly is Clone?
Beyond Corporation ready to do anything to trademark Spider-Man. Then Ben got a radiation proof suit. Then Radiation based supervillain team, U-foes attacks. Why this seems like a planned? Beyond Corporation is very very suspicious. more
