DC Comics News - Steven Brown

Overall, Absolute Batman #3 was a great story that further shows us the origins of Bruce Wayne, as well as Selina Kyle. One really cool thing about this issue is that Bruce's friends in the end ambush him at movie night at the Gotham theater. And the movie title? Mask of Zorro. I thought that this was interesting, and it seems that no matter the iteration of Bruce Wayne, we see that particular movie will always be a part of his origin story. Read Full Review

Absolute Batman #3 puts the pedal to the metal. In flashbacks, Nick Dragotta and Frank Martin produce bittersweet glimpses of Bruce's life full of friends and love. And in the present, they deliver a heavy metal batmobile chase unlike any other. All the while, Scott Snyder infuses tension in every lull and action with Batman having to make tough decisions that he never had to deal with before. As Alfred said in this issue, "I may actually love Batman. Read Full Review

Absolute Batman #3is the strongest and most gripping issue in the series so far. Scott Snyder finally confronts Absolute Batman with a problem that can't be solved with fists or gadgets, and Nick Dragotta's stylistic art makes even the quiet dialog moments captivating. Comic Watch - Dustin Gebel

    Dec 20, 2024

Absolute Batman #3 reflects the best and worst tendencies of the series so far, doubling down on the strong writing for its hero and supporting cast along with the flat characterization of its villain. Dragotta excels on the page, resulting in a specific, unique rhythm that feels and moves differently when compared to other current Batman titles. That is achieved thanks to inventive paneling and stacked pages threaded with a cohesive coloring that shocks when needed. Halfway through the opening arc of Absolute Batman, the book makes for a strong offering that cant but stumble in a few places. Read Full Review

Absolute Batman #3 is another solid issue to the series that presents an opportunity for Batman to take his approach to his fight in a different direction. Batman-News - Jackson Luken

    Dec 18, 2024

Absolute Batman #3 continues to fully embrace the absurdity in how over the top its action is. It even manages to have its cake and eat it too by making its characters point out how ridiculous things like a giant dump truck Batmobile really are, while still savoring every minute. The issue is more exposition heavy than previous ones, but a combination of exciting action and interesting world building keeps it from ever getting boring. Read Full Review

Absolute Batman #3 was the weakest of the three for me. Don't get me wrong, I still really like the series but the issue hit familiar tropes that I really was not expecting. Enjoying the world building. Was a little disappointed that the action on the cover was not reflected in the pages. Instead, we got a crazy over-the-top dump truck chase through Gotham. We saw Bruce embracing his "AF" mindset in issue two but issue three ends on some unsteady ground...should make for an interesting ending.

I love how much Snyder wants to emphasize that the world is broken. Broken families, Martha/Bruce & Penny/Alfred, broken police department, Commissioner Harvey Bullock taking bribes from Roman and instantly betraying Jim Gordon for some hardware. Al, the AI robot along with Edward tried convincing Bruce to let go and don't pursue the party animals. That's when we get exposition on how big is the structure, that is not just Gotham, they are world wide. We're not sure what Bruce saw that changed his mind, supposedly. But it has to be something incredible, and I can't wait for Snyder to reveal it. Although, I'm not 100% convinced Bruce will take Roman's deal, after all he finally shows up to his mother's home to ask if she could lie low... more

I like Snyder's take so far on a young vibrant Batman with a truly great understanding of how all his friends eventually become his enemies. The down side i suppose is it's a bit rough and uneven in places and skips around timeliness to much. I say to much as it disrupts the action and makes it less than I think it will rad as a trade.....nonetheless I enjoyed it enough.....JM

The first thing I will say is that I always love seeing Bruce and Selina together, and I love Absolute Alfred. I mean, come on, "I may actually love Batman." This had me cracking up, but there was still something missing for me personally. Maybe its Roman Sionis; I'm not sure, but it just doesn't feel like that big of a bad, like they don't make it feel that BIG to me personally. Everything from when they were younger was so perfect; I love the relationship between all of them, and then when Bruce was going to leave, they all appeared, and you see Martha in the back really hit me in the feels. I'm very much still loving this book and can't wait to see where it goes and how it ties in to the wider universe!

A well-written issue here, in my opinion. If you're going to have, relatively, a lot of dialogue in an issue, it needs to be done well. I don't know that this had "a lot" of dialogue, but I think it feels that way with how certain pages had a lot of smaller panels. Either way, I think Snyder did a nice job here. Dragotta did a solid job on the art, as well, although I don't think he's gotten to the same level of quality with his art as he did with the first issue, unfortunately.

This book remains strikingly ambitious in almost every regard... Snyder is taking on the entire philosophy of what Batman is with this story and he aims to tackle some very modern relevant ideas, I just hope he doesn't forget that the characters are still the most important thing and will drive the effectiveness of any thematic throughline. I truly cant tell where this is going to go... and these days thats a very good thing. Bruce realizing the gravity of what he's up against and realizing how little hed actually accomplishing on his own is welcome but I think Alfred is also one who is going to see some merit in Bruce's approach. I love the idea of not having to solve EVERYTHING but still being willing to do what good one can, I think t more

Snyder does not disappoint when doing Batman. This is some of his best work to date. TI love how this Absolute world is coming together. In issue 3 there was a lot of story to get too. There are plenty of story threads that are all starting to come together. I'm mostly looking forward to where Alfred is playing a part. I don't want to give any story spoilers away in this, as I don't think it is as good as the last 2 issues, but this one is more designed to further the story along, and it's fantastic. I'm starting to care more about the absolute world then I am Earth Prime. This one didn't do it for me. I was starting to get bored by the story after a few pages, and the art lacked the urgency and rawness that I liked about first two issues. In calmer scenes, I can't help but find Dragotta's art kind of average - good enough to tell the story, but not good enough to show that there's an age difference between Bruce and his mother.
