Checchettos art elevates and refines these various elements through deliberately clumsy action and pure warmth in expressions. Paired with Wilsons coloring, which subverts visual expectations while grounding the specific beats into adjacent tones, the art proves what top-tier talent brings to a flagship title. Ultimate Spider-Man #2 is proof the debut issue was not a fluke and there is a level of care and craft that fosters true innovation for the webhead and his supporting cast. Anyone lingering with doubts about this book should jump on this train now, as it shapes up to be quite possibly the defining Spider-Man story of the decade. Read Full Review

Final Thoughts If issue 1 was a prequel, this is Day 1. Peter is still getting used to his powers, hes already lost twice, and Spider-man still has no real identity. Thats bound to change in the upcoming issues. Wilson Fisk is set to take charge, the Goblin is just ramping up his attacks, and Jonah and Ben are very quickly becoming the heart of the book. I cant wait another month. Out of the two books in the line so far, this is the one to beat. Read Full Review

Comic Book Revolution - Kevin Lainez

Ultimate Spider-Man #2 is a wonderful follow-up to the stand-out debut of this series. Jonathan Hickman and Marco Checchetto nail the story of an older Peter Parker becoming Spider-Man. What that means for Peter and those around him provides plenty of potential to play off from. That is shown throughout this issue, building a comic book you are excited to see how it continues in the future. Read Full Review

Ultimate Spider-Man #2 is a fantastic second issue. If you were excited by the first, the second is sure to amp all of that up. This is a take on the character that's familiar but quite different, acting almost as a "what if riff on things that have been teased in the main Marvel Universe for years. The comic is one of the best Marvel is putting out right now and we're excited to see what the next issue brings. Read Full Review

Weird Science Marvel Comics - mrgabehernandez

    Feb 21, 2024

Ultimate Spider-Man #2 significantly improves over the first issue by putting more focus on Peter Parker as he tries, fails, and tries again to figure out how to be a superhero. Hickman wisely balances the wonder of a person getting superpowers with the maturity of an older man who thinks before he acts. That said, the second draw of this series is the Parker family and they still aren't given much exposure or anything to do, which is a bummer. Read Full Review
