Fantastic Four #1 is a fun comic but as a first issue it doesn't really deliver an experience that makes it truly exciting or something that'll hook new readers. It has a good mix of action, humor, and drama. It generally should be easy for new readers to be able to pick up and enjoy. Overall, it feels more like a continuation of the previous volume instead of a clean break and relies on “One World Under Doom” to really deliver the challenge the team will face. Plot This comic supports the ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM event. The Fantastic Four are fighting Doctor Doom, the Emperor of the World and Sorcerer Supreme. The combined powers of Ben, Johnny, Sue, and Reed give him a good beating, but they can't count on Doom's great new magical power. Doctor Doom sends each of them to a different era in history: Johnny sends him back in time, long before animals or plants existed, the entire planet was fire, and oxygen levels were only 20%. With such low levels, he can't use his powers and has trouble breathing. He manages to write the exact year and date he is currently in on the FOREVER STONE, thanks to the computer in his suit. This stone is the oldest in history. Ben is sent back to the age of th e dinosaurs; he also manages to write the date on the stone. - Reed is in the medieval era, in the year 1266. He locates the stone and sees his friends' dates and writes his own. - Sue is in the very distant future, where there is no life; she needs to get the Forever Stone. This is an exciting first episode of this new saga, which, although it begins with the ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM event, veers in another direction: an adventure through time with deadly consequences. First off, I am VERY much not a Fantastic Four fan. I haven't read much prior to this, mostly only issues that tied into events I was interested in. But I decided to give this a shot since it's starting over and I've heard good things about Ryan North from people I talk to, and Ramos is a solid artist. I actually really enjoyed this issue and I'll be sticking with the series for the foreseeable future. The art was really good, the writing was good, and idea of splitting them up across time periods is interesting. HT getting sent so far back that oxygen is too low for him to flame on properly is an interesting twist. Can't wait to see where this goes, might make a FF fan of me yet.

As someone new to Fantastic Four, this issue was alright. First off, the first issue being set in another Marvel event felt unfair and doesn't feel like a faithful first issue. I do not like the Johnny mustache, and my only assumption would be to make him seem older. But that would be unnecessary. The story of them being split up, I will admit, made me curious about what the team will do, especially with Sue being the leader and the one to tell them. Also, why is Sue called Sue Storm? I personally liked the art. I've seen a lot worse, and I'm a bit confused about people acting like it's the worst art they have witnessed.

New #1 issue for what feels like a filler storyline. Not cool. When did Sue become the leader??? That feels like unnecessary female empowerment as it doesn't really make sense, at least to me. Maybe I missed something in earlier issues that reinforces this. I liked Ramos on art as it was something that felt different for a title like this but this was sooooo not needed. More Marvel BS that will eventually be their undoing.

Yeah I wasn't crazy about this ish but I don't think Sue is the new leader like that. When Doom sent them to different times she just happened to be the one sent farther into the future. Then in #2 if it wasn't for Reed doing that crazy diamond stuff she would be dead. The art here sucked but by ish #2 I think it improved. But so far it seems like a calmer run than last. Last run had a lot of good stuff

I'm not going to crap on this ish to hard because it's a new #1 but I'm not saying this is a strong start either. Right away there is a decay in the art style, not looking as good as previous run even at that one's worst. Doom has trapped each member of the FF in totally different time periods of earth. He put insane time gaps between each member and the only plan they have for situations like this is using a forever stone to find each other. Johnny is in the earliest stages of Earth's formation no life, he writes it down on the forever stone and I guess leaves some kind of signal that would last long enough for the next. Thing is in the dino period, Reed in 1226, and so Sue being the last one is the only key for the team to get back to their time together. She's in a far off future where the sun is dying and all the oceans and life are gone. The sun ready to eat the earth and eventually die. They never calculated being sent so far into the future and the ish ends with the mystery will Sue find the forever stone or is this the end? I like the idea and Im interested but one of the things bothering me is why is the FF attacking Doom in the beginning of the ish? Didn't he just save everyone from Dormammu and didn't One World Under Doom end with Maria Hill having dirt? So how do we cut to this so fast without proper build? more

This Ramos art looks very phoned in. Not sure if he just isnt trying or if his style really doesnt fit the FF but its not great. Also for a number 1 issue this isnt what I expected. Like might be really cool a bit into the run but this seems like an odd choice to 'start anew'. Also they just get owned by Doom again so I can only see Doom being beat for some really dumb reason. All in all, while it is a cool story, this isnt a '#1 Issue' story by any means and the art is rough at best. Not a good start.

Finally read the newest in a series of Fantastic Four first issues … … it was alright. The Ramos art was fun and the story was decent enough, but not very exciting. While this wasn’t a “bad” book … it 100% failed as a first issue - the story opens already in motion … this is fine … but it ties into the previous run and a Doctor Doom event. A first issue should reset the story for new readers and this failed miserably. The better Fantastic Four book is the Thing limited-series, I would recommend THAT over this issue. Question - how is Sue the leader of the FF and not Reed?

Lame story, cringe dialogue, not much happens. As if that wasn’t bad enough, there’s the art by Humberto Ramos that makes everyone look stupid. Even the cover sucks. Sorry, that’s not the great start of a new chapter in the life of the FF that will pull in new readers.
