Peter's on the outs with the FF. He's on the outs with the Avengers. He's on the outs with Aunt May! No one wants to see Spider-Man - except for Doctor Octopus. Ock's on Spider-Man's tail and the Master Planner has something truly terrible planned for when he gets his tentacles on Spidey. All that, and what does Tombstone have planned? Just in time for Spider-Man's 60th Anniversary, a new volume of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN begins, and 2022 is going to be the biggest year for Spider-Man EVER! Don't believe us? We brought John Romita Jr. back JUST FOR THIS!

The Amazing Spider-Man #1 by Zeb Wells is an amazing issue. New readers will find this to be a great issue to jump onboard as Wells' story doesn't require any prior knowledge to get up to speed. With a lot of questions being asked, some readers may want something more substantial to hold onto. The return of John Romita Jr. has excited fans since the announcement and the art does not disappoint. Overall, The Amazing Spider-Man #1 is a near-perfect issue to start off a fresh storyline. Romita Jr brings a wonderful, classic style to the issue that brings me back to some of my favorite Spider-Man issues. The opening panels are dramatic and no one can capture the mood of the city and its characters like John Romita Jr. Read Full Review

Spider-Man works best when equal time is given to both Peter Parker and to Spider-Man, almost by treating them as two separate characters, and this issue nails that approach perfectly. This title looks like it will have legs. Read Full Review

Given these unanswered questions, it is too soon to be all-in on Amazing Spider-Man #1. However, there are enough elements of a classic Spider-Man tale to interest readers. Read Full Review

Bits and PiecesThe Amazing Spider-Man #1 is a decent start to the run by Zeb Wells. Peter starts in a bad place, and things only go downhill. Wells does a nice job of setting up the central conflict, but the lack of information about Peter's absence and the lack of clarity about the twist ending may cause some readers to feel more annoyed and frustrated than curious. There's a lot to take in with Amazing Spider-Man #1. It shows a lot of potential with where the story's going and generally feels like a new and interesting direction for the first arc at least. Hopefully, things get a bit smoother going forward as it all plays out but as a start, it's just so-so. Read Full Review

Amazing Spider-Man #1 is an interesting start, but it's too early to say if we're getting an all-time classic or a new pit-stop story arc that will soon be forgotten. That's because it's way too early to understand the big mystery and hook, which frustratingly leaves readers in the dark. That said, if you love classic Spider-Man, there's more than enough here to enjoy. From the visuals to Peter's attitude, we haven't seen this Spider-Man in a long time. Read Full Review

Amazing Spider-Man #1is a shaky start to the web-slinger's 60th anniversary, as the story boasts solid art thanks to John Romita Jr. I hope that future issues, including the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man #900will be a more fitting celebration of Spidey's legacy, Read Full Review

This new volume of Amazing Spider-Man is off to a solid start. A lot of groundwork was laid in this issue to establish a new tone and some new mysteries, while maintaining the same old Spidey. I think Marvel also takes some cheap shots to try and be controversial. Read Full Review

Maybe writing one of these major properties is best compared to a cover song. Everyone already knows it, but the point is what a different artist adds or subtracts from the song. Romita Jr. is as safe a pair of hands as you can imagine, and Wells is well known to the Spider-Office already. Through that lens, 2022's Amazing Spider-Man #1 is a largely faithful cover executed well by a team of old hands. The tune's stuck in my head, and I never thought I'd say that about the Web-Head. At least he's still got the suit and can do a little wall-crawling which leads into the other thread of the Rose making a play for Tombstone‘s territory. For some reason Tombstone blames Spider-Man, instead of the guy who blew up his home, and threatens to destroy his life (if he only knew). At least Peter is going to have somewhere to put his pent-up aggression. Read Full Review
