A comic with potential that I feel was squandered by the writing. But it may just not be for me. There were editorial notes that were just cringe inducing and entirely unnecessary. And some panels had text which I felt were superfluous and I think they would have worked better with just the art. Also why is it that the guys are all losers/pathetic while the girl is some badass. I guess I've been seeing this (and things similar) far too often nowadays and it feels far too cliche. I'd like some variety for the females I read in fiction.

Action Comics 957 for the most part was a pretty alright comic. Zircher's art is good and Jurgen does a mostly fine job scripting. The cliffhanger ending was bad. You don't make your "surprise" reveal something that's been revealed on the cover and the solicits for months. That's just bad storytelling. Now, my biggest problem with this issue was that this Superman is a hate-filled person who does not look past his own grievances. He has searched Lex Luthor and found nothing dirty on him. He knows Lex Luthor has saved the world when the heroes weren't around. He knows Lex Luthor was a member of the Justice League and was never unceremoniously kicked out. Yet his first reaction to seeing Lex Luthor save some hostages wearing the S symbol is to immediately shave his beard, assume the identity of Superman, and to attack Luthor. I am absolutely disgusted with Superman's actions here. People would like to say that this is the real Superman and are overjoyed by Post-Crisis Supes being back. But frankly, I disagree. New52 Superman handled Luthor so much better and in a more dignified way. If Superman is meant to be the paragon of morality and the ideal superheroe, this comic failed to show it.

So the arc ends with us being told how "great" Kate is. Yeah, no. Fuck that. She couldn't even own up to her being a bit of an aloof "bitch"? Oh but we did get Clint admitting his insecurites and short comings. Maybe that's why I like Clint. He feels real and natural. Kate feels forced and "perfect".

Main story: 6/10. Backup Story: 5/10

The art by JRJR, Miki, and White is the only thing I like about this book. It's just so beautiful and well crafted. I'm not a fan of the rest of the book. Even Shalvey's art, which I usually enjoy, I'm not liking in this book. Also, I don't get the whole wheel and not-robin thing with Duke. Just feels like some forced attempt to make Duke something more of a robin, which is basically what he is in all but name. And the thing I can't stand about Snyder's writing is he does too much over explaining. He's got to spell out what's happening to the readers, how they should feel, and let them know what metaphors/symbolism he's used in the comic. It's honestly just tiring, makes it boring, and just causes the whole story to feel dumbed down. Why tell me something when you can just as easily show it to me"

MAIN STORY: 6/10. Not a fan of the story Snyder is telling, the dialogue he's using, and his characterization for Batman. But JRJR, Miki, and White produce some very very gorgeous art. BACK-UP STORY: 4/10. Find this to be an utter bore. No reason to care about Duke or this particular story and Shalvey's art is much weaker than what I remember from him.

Words words words words words words words. Spencer seems intent on cramming every panel with as many words as he can. The art is completely made superfluous ad one is left wondering why this is even a comic book. And with the use of Lang's inner monologue Spencer is sure to tell us how to feel and react to every little thing instead of just showing the readers. The plot is completely uninteresting and the issue ends on a stupid cliffhanger which apparently still has yet to be resolved. A terrible terrible book

I didn't enjoy Snyder's run for the most part and this issue was entirely predictable. But that being said, it was a pretty decent final issue to their run. And I can't forget to praise Capullo and FCO. They carried Snyder's writing with their brilliant art.

A decent issue on it's own but it does not work as a first issue at all. The story is quite simply that SHIELD are chasing Black Widow. That is quite literally it and there is nothing else to it. Samnee's art carries the issue, and while he does a phenomenal job there is nothing in the issue for me to care about the character(s) and/or plot of the book. This is the kind of issue you do after you've already started the series. The issue is all style but no substance, and that is simply unacceptable for a first issue.

Its a well crafted book that's done nothing to get me to care about it at all. I'll be dropping this.

If I think on it objectively, this book doesn't deserve a 10. But this book managed to make me enjoy every page more than any comic in a long time has. There are very few comics that have given me so much joy and excitement reading them as this has. I loved this book, flaws and all.

Dumb cliffhangar.

What a change in art direction, and not for the better. I'm not a fan of this art style and it certainly doesn't work for this book. Also all the monologue get was terrible made this a tedious and boring read.

The problem with this book is that Hyperion is not the main character, instead it's Doll (a new character). That wouldn't be major problem if it wasn't for the fact that she's quite annoying and unlikable. I want to believe that she'll grow from her current behavior, but seeing other ecent Marvel comics has me believe this is the way they want her.

Writing was good, but the art hurt to look at. The backgrounds and characters clashed horribly. Backgrounds were obviously a lazy effort on the artists part, and I doubt they were even drawn. In one panel there were even helicopters and a ship that were directly taken from a photograph. Absolutely terrible. Made it a pain to read.

God this was such dumb pointless issue. I really wish Johns tried to advance the plot more and actually reveal some of the mysteries. That page with "it's a boy" was so so stupid. That had no meaning to the reader. It should've been contained to single panel. Needless decompression is so frustrating to me.

Expectations were very low, but this ended up being enjoyable. The problem was that there was far too much decompression in this book. Not worth getting in single issues.

What a complete nothing arc. This issue ends the same way the Rebirth issue ended. What was even the damn point? This should not be a monthly comic. This is absolutely not worth it. Rucka needs to stop with his perfect Wondie nonsense and start with writing a solid story that isn't decompressed to hell and back.
