A great issue for characterization. Seeing Batman in this light makes me itch to have Bruce return to the cowl and make an appearance by the end of this series. However, it may be something that works best as something that the Robins have to finish without Bruces involvement. Read Full Review

Following last issue's flashback heavy focus, scripter Genevieve Valentine allows the team a chance to regroup, reassess, and refocus. It's a move that leads to some emotional, if forced, exchanges, Valentine using the aside to explore the team's shared legacy and the overall weight of the cowl. Exploring the various personalities of each Robin has been part of the fun so far in this Eternal run, yet the look we get here does feel shoehorned to fit the eventual turnaround. Read Full Review

After the amazing stories thatGenevieve Valentine delivered back in Batman&Robin Eternal #7+8, I was expecting something fantastic, and I just didn't get it. While this issue isn't without good sections, several elements feel overlycontrived and cliche. On top of that, we get some questionable characterizations when it comes to certain longtime Batfamily members that I just couldn't let slide. I should have known that after loving the last issue of Eternal, I was only setting myself up for a big disappointment.  This issue had bad dialogue, poor characterizations and awful art.  While we get a really good flashback scene, most of this issue was just setup for the cliffhanger and this book's stretch run.  I am tired and just want it to end.  Please, make it end. This is not how you handle most of these characters. Dick especially has been used and abused the past few months for the sake of the direction writers wanted to take their plot. Fortunately he's had Grayson to showcase the best of him, but jeesh. If your idea for a story requires characters acting unlike themselves, it's probably not a very good idea.
