Spider-Man #8may have well been the true start to this secondary Spidey title. It's full of classical Marvel heart and fun that keeps a human heart directly at its center. Spider-Man #8 gets the series back to basics, with a Spider-Man getting back to the business of saving the day until he feels his efforts aren't enough. Peter's experiment has interesting story implications, and the overall technical execution (writing and art) is an improvement, but Slott's characterization of Spidey feels outdated, and Spider-Boy's random appearances have outworn their welcome. Better than ASM by far. Feels like classic Spider-Man with some stellar artwork. Bailey is fun for the brief moments we get with the character in this issue, can’t wait to see more. This is a great jumping on point if you haven’t read Slott’s run yet.

Not perfect but so much better than the main Amazing Spiderman series, it's a breath of fresh air to get Peter written like he is really Peter parker and Spiderman being Spiderman. I'm not yet sold on the Spider kid thing but I'm still here and overall it felt like reading Spiderman so that's a win.

Would you kindly enlighten me on where this series lies against the current ASM run? I gave up Spiderman back when they retconned everything with Brand New Day. I picked this run up from the beginning, and now am about to get into ASM again starting with the death of *a character* from a few issues back. Are they just separate stories/universes?

Nice to have this book out as a reprieve from Wells' run. Only issue is the add of Spider-Boy as we already have so many great Spider characters that don't get their own series that adding another just dilutes things further.

It's a remarkably self-contained and well-told story, considering the variant mess it spun out of. It looks good and it rolls along smoothly. The characters' choices are awfully silly, though. Like Silver Age silly--and Spider-Boy nibbling around the edges and hanging a few lampshades on the silliness doesn't help matters.
