This issue is all about breaking Spider-Man down. Quite literally. The art is the standout here, and it is absurd that I'm saying it, but it's true. John Romita Jr. is not my favorite artist, not even close, but I'd be a hack not to admit that this issue lives and dies on his work. And thankfully, it lives. To be fair to Wells, he does create a sense of desperation for Spidey that I haven't felt in a while, not even when Kindred was beating him to death. It really does all work here. This is the least substantive issue so far, but the storytelling is on point, and the creators clearly knew what they were going for and hit it square on the head. For that, this issue surpasses the previous two. I'm not surprised that its scoring is higher for users this time around. more

This was my favorite issue of the run yet. Tombstone is written incredibly here, in present-day and in his backstory. In present-day, he's an absolute badass. In the present-day, he has a great origin, of sorts, that gives us a sense of how he came to be the way he is. Aside from Tombstone as a character, the main story of this title remains interesting. As I said in my review of the first issue, this feels like a classic gang/mobster story, which is very entertaining when done well. Also, very glad the cover of this issue isn't misleading like last time ;)

Great secondary characters, great sequence, great cliffhanger and great villain story. This comic shows PEter in a powerless way, different from what I was used to seeing when I read it in 2014 where he had all his industry, machinery and assistants. Peter is alone and has no one to help him. Lápide has been a great idea, I was never very close to this enemy but I believe that telling his origin story now was very important for us to create an affection for him. Furthermore, who is Paul? And because he decided to help the spider even though he was unpleasant in his relationship with MJ. This is another character I want to meet. So I was happy with this edition, which despite not having any great characters other than Spider, it is moving t he story towards something that seems to be very good. p.s: so the tombstone didn't really approve of the marriage. Did the pink attack change him, or did he never approve? more

I'm really liking this. It's good. I've reread previous issues and they are better than I reviewed them at first. And hey, no missleading cover, eh? That wasn't so hard, was it Lowe? But JRJR's art thou. I started rereading his and JMS' run and my grodd was his art so much better back then...

I really like the way Tombstone is written here. Hes one of the more underrated of spideys villains but hes one of the more intimidating. This issue has some nice setup and strong dialogue, and it leaves spider man in a losing state for the entire issue, one he doesn't have an out for just yet. Its a nice touch. 3 issues in I feel like this story has used its pages well.

This arc is reminding me that Tombstone can be scary af when you mess with his business, damn. I'm having a lot of fun with this new run, JrJr art here is a little weaker than the previous 2 issues but just as always, his narrative skills are just impecabble, this man is a brilliant storyteller. I love what Zeb is putting Peter through here, he's clearly not at his best mentally and physically so Tombstone basically has him at the palm of his hands. I honestly have no idea what Peter will do to solve this mess, poor man can never catch a break xD but that's why we love him right? he never catches a break, but he'll always get back up and and try to make things right.

Thank you! I really don't get this, "Why doesn't Spider-Man just beat up the bad guy, there is no way Tombstone is stronger?!" line of thinking. Peter is at a low point being demonstrated as you said mentally and physically.

Better art, decent story. Don't care that Spidey is locked in cuffs. It serviced the story. If every hero got out of every situation immediately it would completely defeat the purpose of the tension the writer is trying to create. I'm chocking it up to he just got beaten, after being in the hospital and he's not at 100%. Makes enough sense to me. Didn't much care when we were kids because we knew the villain was going to give some monologue. This was decent, served the story. That's all that matters at the end of the day. What is being said, not "Why didn't Spider-Man just break the cuffs and beat up all of the bad guys?!"

I really like Tombstone, and how he's portrayed so far in this series. This whole issue makes you feel the dread but, I keep feeling like we need to get to this mystery of what happened.

It's good and I did enjoy reading it after letting it sit for a while. Wells is good with his narrative and words so it comes through easily. Romita Jr is consistent so far and Hanna inking/Menyz coloring makes it all look good!

This was a fun read, the first three issues together are telling a good story. I am liking where the book is going. And enjoying the story it's telling. John romita jr, was born to draw Spider-Man, it the place his art looks best.

This issue has some great content. Nice development across multiple plotlines and, of course, a killer dive into Tombstone's past and psychology. The script is nicely structured and the dialogue (especially Tombstone's) is good. The art gets the job done, but it could do a hell of a lot more to emphasize the emotions at play here. JRJR is a Big Name but I don't think he's going on anybody's GOAT list for drawing expressive faces.

This issue is just fine as usual. It's not bad, but its not mindblowingly amazing. the art isnt as good (maybe the coloring), and how is Spider-Man restrained by chains when he can lift up to 10 tons? Are those chains made up of adamantium? It still peaks my interest, and I'm just along for the ride.

Surely better than Issue 2, but I'm still extremely confused. How is Peter locked by simple handcuffs? He should be able to completely destroy them and kick all of Tombstone's goons in the face. I liked Lonnie's memory tale (and I think it's a new side of it that was never shown) and the glimpse into Randy and Janice's vacation. But that's it. Romita's art is the worst I've seen since the first Issue (I'm a big fan) and Tombstone's plan is stupid, considering he looked perfectly fine with Randy dating his daughter. Paul paying Peter's bills? Convenient, but I think that mystery is going to be a loooooong storyline. In the end, I have very mixed feelings. Hope I can express this without some genius reviewer coming here telling me not to read my favourite hero's comics. more

You have every right and reason to have mixed feelings on the series. I certainly do but Daredevil is never wrong when he says you don't HAVE to read it. No one is making you and if you don't like what you are reading, stop. Not saying you should nor that you would but it can be good advice. Or even take a break and see if the story is better digested together instead of parsed out month to month. Getting the feeling this is being written for trades (which in itself is frustrating).

Was so excited for Zeb Wells' run on Spider-Man after his amazing Hellions run but so far the story is really lacking. Romita's art also doesn't help. I'm cool for waiting to find out what happened in the 6 months but this issue kind of dragged at points and Tombstone's feelings on Robbie & Randy are suddenly the exact opposite of where he was just at. Hope it all makes sense in the end.

This comic is not good. I like Zeb Wells. I like Spider-Man. I like Zeb Wells’ Spider-Man prior to this run but something just isn’t clicking. With these three issues, I am not at all convinced ASM was deserving of a relaunch. In retrospect, Beyond is looking good and Spencer’s run is looking like a masterpiece. C’mon, Zeb, turn it around!

I guess I'm just having a hard time dealing with how easy Spider-Man was beaten by Tombstone. Unless they are going to explain a big strength upgrade I don't get it. Spider-Man would be dead by now if Tombstone who is much weaker beats him by putting him in a bear hug. The rest of the story can do whatever it wants, but it doesn't work for me knowing him getting beaten so easily doesn't really make any sense. How has he survived against so many more dangerous villains yet fucking Tombstone does a WWE move on him and actually beats him with it. Give Spider-Man the respect he fucking deserves!
