The gold appearance reminds me a bit of All-Star Superman's ending but I don't know how that would be possible.  Since I think this might be a riff on Kryptonite Nevermore, is this some kind of 'Sand Superman' version of our hero? So not a bad first issue with new characters, a focus on the new Daily Planet, new supporting characters, and this Kryptonite plot, Slott sets the stage nicely. Superman Unlimited #1 finds the Man of Steel flying off on a suicide mission to stop a meteorite made of Kryptonite, but the end of the mission is the start of a new era. Dan Slott's big idea is a doozy. Unfortunately, the promise of the idea is lost in a sea of recaps about Superman's history. Plus, Rafael Albuquerque's art is generally good during the action scenes but a bit rough with the faces. If Slott can put his creative spark behind a fully original issue, we'll see if he presents a noteworthy story for Superman fans. For now, it's a wait-and-see. Read Full Review

I loved this. It made me feel genuine hope. If that isn't part of what superhero comics are for, then what are we all doing? I dig the art. It's different. I can already tell this comic will be marred in controversy. A sign of the tumultuous times we live in. This comic speaks to the need and power of truth. I feel that is something we all need right now. Isn't it sad when Superman is in a wholesome mode in the vein of his classic era and certain people are threatened by that? Threatened by a man, a Superman, being good to his fellow man. I enjoyed this debut. Let's see where it goes.

This is a perfect first issue to give new readers a jump in point to quickly understand Superman's history as well as the daily planet cast while still giving long time readers an interesting new story to unfold. With all the new movie hype in the air, hopefully plenty of new readers pick this up and dive further into the lore in the other series.

gonna be honest, I had low hopes for this. Dan Slott fell off after his Fantastic Four and Spider-Man (2022) runs, but I always like to give people a chance. And he surpassed them. I like how Superman is still a guy doing the right thing in a polarized and divided world, and it's nice seeing Superman reminisce his history as he stops a kryptonite meteorite. Overall, I dig this, and I'm actually excited to read the upcoming issues.

A great first issue with a very challenging new threat to the Man of Steel that also manages to radically reinvent the status quo on his adopted world. A little too heavy on the recaps for my taste, and the art looks a bit awkward in places, but overall a great first issue that left me wanting more. Does a good job of creating a new jumping-on point for new readers, especially with a new movie on the way.

Well it's not bad int itself but a retrospective view of Superman's life is not what I was hoping for. Guess I'll have to wait for the next issue to really get into the story...

First off, people who got the FCBD special had to pay for it after all. That stinks. There is the seed of a good idea but only after yet another retelling of Superman's origin. And the art is surprisingly sketchy. And why isn't Lois Superwoman? And what is the industrial use of kryptonite anyway?

The art is wonky for sure but a good story can make up for that, unfortunately that's not really what we got. A look back on Supes life that only a few newbies would want to read seems like a waste, and if anyone really wanted to buy the book for that it would need MUCH better art. This seems like a poorly written excuse to remind everyone how lawful good and noble Clark is with a strange hook just thrown in at the end to try to get folks back for more. This is feeling like a Bendis situation to me. I had high hopes for this as I'm not a Slott hater but it's just....bleh.

I kind of agree with you, but Slott had already said that this would be a book for people who had just finished the movie and wanted to read Superman. In this context, I think the recap is ok, but I understand those who didn't like it and, unfortunately, the art isn't that good. But I liked the new ideas presented, let's wait and see.

I don't understand what Slott is doing here and how it's going to fit into the regular timeline. It starts out okay with a montage of his saving people, but then he fights the meteor to find out it's a 100% kyptonite. Yet he makes contact with it and it doesn't kill him. It doesn't even negate his powers as he is still able to push it. Calling bullshit there. Apparently, Slott doesn't understand how physics works. The meteor still crashing on Earth, and there is no cataclysmic event. Calling bullshit again. Then we have see the events of Supe's origin for no damn reason whatsoever. We don't need it. Then when he wakes up Kryponite is now powering everything and the Super-family can now be hurt. Wouldn't this effect all of the other DC title s? He literally says the planet is changed. You just admitted that you don't pay for the comics you read. You have almost 500 reviews with an average rating of 2.6, so these obviously aren't the "books you like keep getting made". So you either don't actually read any of the comics you review or you get them for free online.

@Phantom Yeah, I do have free access to a lot of physical books without having illegally download them, but if that's what you assume people do because that is what you do then that's really telling of you and not me. Logic isn't your strong point. Anyways, maybe one day when you reach a level of reviewing you'll be able to get free stuff too through connections and these things call friends within the industry. I doubt it though. Stay angry, it seems to be all you have going for you.
