Nightwing #88 does a great job telling a complete story in a single issue. Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo bring the focus back to Bludhaven and Dick Grayson's new mission with the Alfred Pennyworth foundation. In the process we get a lot of great character work as we see how important both the Batman and Titans Family are to Dick Grayson's life. With all of that and the developments around Blockbuster and Heartless it'll be very interesting to see where Taylor and Redondo take Nightwing next. Read Full Review

The Gen Z tone dates the issue too much and makes NIGHTWING relatable to the current younger demographic but also takes away from the characteristics that make NIGHTWING who he is. This just feels more like a common tone in Taylor's style right now, which isn't necessarily a bad thing it's just not reflective of the character and more on society and social trends bleeding into the dynamic of the character. Nightwing #88 is an entertaining issue with an adrenaline shot of action the series has desperately needed. While I appreciate Taylor's scripts ramping up the tension, the constant fan service often defangs situations that should be harder to overcome. A defenseless Dick Grayson with a target on his back is a great premise for an arc. It's a little less compelling when his group of superhero friends keeps showing up. Read Full Review

I love everything about this comic book, and this issue is just perfect. From the writing to the drawns, every little thing work together in harmony to bring life this brilliant issue. And the Heartless arc make me very curious about what happening next. The best comic book Taylor is writing in the moment.

The first page alone justifies this score. The rest is just propped up by a narrative that should be shared with disparate communities throughout the world. We can fix our crises. It takes a lot of effort and sometimes people will try to shoot at you but as long as we stand together we can all be Titans. C'mon, it has Wally. P.S. Please bring back Titans.

I feel like people who again and again express ignorance and disdain for compassion should really get some help for their moral deficiencies. So... like half the people reviewing this comic should get help, if I was being too subtle. I'll name names. This is a really well done issue. First time I've liked the Titans since 2003.

Like its lead character, this issue exudes charm and charisma in spades. It's light-hearted and earnestly optimistic at the same time, serving us a reminder of how much we can achieve with empathy instead of disdain for the poor.

Another amazing issue, The Titans here acted more like titans than in their own book. Still nice issue and interested to see where the story leads next. -2 two for putting fan-service over story in terms of importance, this issue titans next issues are with NEW superman (super-boy) & Flash (Wally). There is an interesting villain Heartless and still every issue brings in other characters, and since they brought these characters they have to include them properly to avoid wasting them in the issue. By the looks of it next issues will also be like this, but hoping the writer dives deep in story with the character rather then skimming over the story with guest staring characters every other issue.

I liked Dick Grayson/Nightwing's return to business in Bludhaven. It was well done. The idea of his bounty on the head is nice and seeing 'Family' come to the rescue is a nice way to show that for this particular character, 'Family' is an expanded and essential notion. But while I like the idea of being shown how important Nightwing is to everyone, I'm one of those who thinks Nightwing can and should be rougher and is certainly able to handle it all without So-and-so intervenes. It is not a question of him being alone but autonomous! he's not just a nice guy, he's a naturally empathetic but unapologetic fighter. I wish Tom Taylor would remember that and show us a Nightwing that can bite! In terms of art, nothing to say, it's over the top. I expect a little more thickness now. more

I really like the first half of this issue. The bit of mystery and tension were fun prior to the action. I even enjoyed the first bit of action. I was disappointed with (1) the last half/third of the issue and (2) the feeling that we're losing Dick's voice a bit. (1) Dick was barely in it. The Titans are pretty powerful, so if they're always on call the stakes of the book seem unbalanced. I think it makes sense Babs called them, and Nightwing can't save Dick Grayson without help/shenanigans, but I'd really like to see Nightwing shine in more solo action. (2) The "revelation" Dick has that he doesn't have to go it alone makes no sense to me considering he's had support this whole run. Also, I'd like to be introduced to characters thro ugh Dick. The issue assumes the reader knows the Titans without any inner commentary (Wally, my best friend and the fastest man alive!) or context beyond generic people who care with name drops. Additionally, we still haven't seen Dick's thoughts/feelings about recent events with Babs. I want to see more of Dick's thoughts beyond the grander ponderings presented here. more

I know a lot of people are losing their minds over the "new" suit and the Titans making an appearance but I just can't get over all the cringey dialogue. I'm sure Taylor thinks he's funny but the "jokes" just aren't landing and the "quippy" dialogue is not that quippy. Heartless is pretty annoying, I hope Blockbuster kills him because he's not a good addition to the Nightwing mythos. I also cringed at the "unhoused" term, a few years back "homeless" was the usual term but I guess it's not good enough for the left now.

Because I like Nightwing. As I read Batman through the second half of King's run or through the Tynion run, I'll read this too because the love for the character trumps the dislike for the writer. I also got through the whole Ric ordeal, so if I did that, I'll make it through Taylor's abysmal run too, I just hope it will be as short as possible. But hey, why are you here commenting if you blocked me, since we're in the asking questions business? That seems weird.

Activists like Taylor want the mush minds that love his writing to believe "the unhoused" are just poor saps crushed by the privileged and could pay rent that month. In fact most are criminals drug addicts and mentally I'll. They belong in prison or for the mentally I'll in institutions getting their meds and some dignity.

In the last 2 weeks I've had 3 incidents with Taylor's unhoused. The worst was when my neighbor called me at 10 at night terrified because an unhoused was trying her door. I managed to send him in his way. He was incoherent and clearly a mental patient.

@Ming: I wouldn't be so harsh. I really don't think most of them are criminals. Some of them end up on the streets after some really tragic circumstances. For example,I used to know a university teacher who ended up on the streets. The guy wasn't a criminal by any means, it's just that some bad stuff happened to him and he lost all he had. There was another guy I knew who also was a pretty smart guy but one of his parents died in the national revolution against the communists and he also lost it

So no, I don't agree with your assertion about them. Yes, some of them are mentally ill. The fact that they live in the streets and not being taken care of is a failure on the state's part. And all over the world this is a problem that states ignore. I agree that we need to do better by them, I just hate this language control where lefties change the meaning of the words to suit their worldview.

"Unhoused" instead of "homeless" implies people should be given houses. I mean, I also think that houses should be way more affordable than they are today when it's getting harder and harder to buy a house no matter how much you work your ass, but the whole "the state should house people" while seems nice in theory, it hasn't worked so well, history has shown. So in a way I even agree with some of Taylor's points, I just don't agree with his obsession about language and the way he goes about it.

I understand what you're saying Merlyn but where I am it's getting quite serious. The mentally I'll belong in facilities that can look after them and restore their dignity. The criminals belong in prison where they cant harm others. The ones that just hit hard times and couldnt pay rent are the minority here. Some are saying it's gone beyond fixing at all.

It's not that black and white regarding the mentally ill. Most of them don't need to be locked in asylums, they just need some period of hospitalization where they're given treatment and they can get put back on their feet. I have a lot of people close to me who have gone through mental trauma and most of them got better after short hospitalizations.Only the absolute worst cases, those who are endangering themselves and others or those who aren't looked up by anyone need to be permanently locked

Maybe I understood you wrong but I don't know what you really mean by "facilities". I got the impression you were talking about mental asylums and, like I said, most people don't need to go there, only the most extreme and dangerous cases. The rest of them just need some period of hospitalization. I don't know what's the situation regarding this in the USA but in Europe most people are given free treatment for a limited number of days even if they don't have insurance.

I mean, they're homeless, for some of them prison may even be an upgrade. The dangerous ones that can harm others belong in prison for sure.

Yes when I say facility I mean what's appropriate for the affliction. They deserve compassion and dignity. But letting things metastasize where conditions are now dangerous helps no one.

I have an acquaintance that has bi polar. She went off the rails. They'd put her in hospital for a days she'd get out then start again. Finally the medication started to work. Shes get herself into shape again and making some progress. However she still cant really function like she used to. Euphemisms like unhoused wont help her though.

I hope she gets better. I also have people close to me who have gotten through mental problems. If they have proper support from family and friends and they get their medication (this is very important, some of them refuse to take their medication and that's not doing them any good) they can get much better. Obviously no one is ever going to be the same after a mental trauma episode, but they can still be highly functional, they just need help at the right time, treatment and compassion.

Her problem in the past was that the medication would make her feel "normal" she'd stay out of trouble and then shed stop taking it thinking shes well enough to. Only now is she understanding that she cant stop taking it. She has adult children that have been helping her.

Regardless of the bad jokes and stupid things where rich people make him sick, surely out of envy. Taylor has time and time again transformed Dick into a damsel in distress, all frail. I miss the independent Nightwing, strong, not now she is just a babe, a MarySue who needs to be rescued over and over again by all the layers on earth. But this is the Nightwing they want now, weak, in a horrible mood and with little logic, that's not counting the nefarious new sister.
