Seeing John Stewart as an enlightened hero is terrific and the perfect centerpiece of this new Green Lantern Corps series. The Green Lantern Mythos is taking off again, and keeping that momentum going forward is the best idea for another book. Having the main series creative team join up with Morgan Hampton is excellent as it is a Creative Corps working on this book. You can tell they have incredible chemistry together as their characters shine. Green Lantern Corps #1is a decent beginning to a new series that follows the renewed Green Lantern Corps as they undertake monthly missions to protect the galaxy. Morgan Hampton and Jeremy Adams's script is a solid complement to the ongoing Green Lantern title, and Fernando Pasarin and Oclair Albert's impressively detailed artwork is excellent. I've been eager for more John Stewart action ever since Phillip Kennedy Johnson's excellent 'Green Lantern: War Journal.' This new Green Lantern Corps series delivers Stewart and the rest of the Corps in a promising start to what could be a great run. The writers demonstrate a strong grasp of characterization and skillfully build upon recent Green Lantern events. The art is perfectly suited for an interstellar series of this scope. I eagerly anticipate future installments.

This debut issue is great. It catches up readers on the Lanterns and their current status. We get John Stewart, Jessica Cruz and surprisingly, Sinestro featured! There are appearances from Jo Mullein, Teen Lantern and Simon Baz. Jeremy Adams incorporates a lot of history as well as getting things going with the Sorrow Lantern. Brining Sinestro back into the Corps is an interesting idea and it’s done wonderfully in this issue. There are lots of little bits that make this a great issue. Only one thing stands out as a possible concern…is that Shayera (Hawkwoman) Hol on the last page? She’s on Oa as a royal ambassador to work with John Stewart to help salvage what’s left of their homeworld. It doesn’t look like Shayera’s h air color. Her body language and facial expression certainly indicate she has history with John, and John doesn’t want it to be her. As the kids say, she looks thirsty. Unfortunately, it appears that Adams is trying to incorporate the DC Animated Universe relationship between John and the random Thanagarian Hawkgirl from that show with a name that never made sense. This would be a huge mistake…. The DCAU was very unkind to the Hawks and there’s no reason to make the same mistakes in the comics. Additionally, the status quo of Hawkman and Hawkwoman established at the end of Robert Venditti’s Hawkman series was both elegant and beautiful and it just doesn’t make sense that Shayera would show up looking “thirsty” for John Stewart. Since Fernando Pasarin drew that Hawkman issue as well, you’d think he could’ve pointed out that something’s not right! Ok, it’s a small concern for this issue, but a huge concern moving forward for Shayera. more

Very strong kickoff for the new title with a great story and amazing artwork that tees up exciting things to come while setting a nice foundation for a variety of stories and characters. I’m delighted to have this book back where it belongs, front and center in the All-In DCU!

John's opening, beating up Kanjar Ro is quite funny, got a good chuckle out of that. Also this book clearly has two writers, I assume Adams is doing the general plot while Morgan does the finer details (as Adams needs to ensure this book follows the general plot points he needs it to hit to make sense with his GL book). Sadly you can tell this as the general concept makes sense and I like where it is going, but the character to character interactions are a bit weak. Morgan I think needs to really work on being a writer. Maybe Adams can train him into a great comic writer? I can only hope. Also what is it with John pulling all the ladies? Like I know he is a cool dude and I like him but dang, it is kind of funny and a touch bizarre wa tching him get flirted with that much. Not out of character per say. Just something you almost never see (Correct me if I am wrong). more

A super solid debut here, in my opinion, with a really nice amount of focus on John Stewart, who's my personal favorite Green Lantern. I really liked the Sinestro stuff as well, though, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of him. Simon and Jessica's section was also really nice, also.

I didn't hate this issue as much as some people did. I thought some of the jokes didn't land like the MIB reference and I do agree that there are too many human characters in the book. I did like some of the interactions. I liked the reveal as I'm a fan of the relationship between Hawkgirl and Stewart, however, I don't like the designs on either. Let's be honest here, if it isn't Hal, Guy, Kyle, or even John it isn't really interesting. The main question that should be asked on every single page of this book is "Where is Hal?" The other characters are just sort of there and to be honest silly. They can be written out of the book without hurting anything,

Very disappointing that Jeremy Adams chose to pander to the DCAU fans who don't buy comics and ruin Shayera's character development. John/Shayera is just a shit pairng that has done dirty to the Hawks franshise. Also it is really a bummer that while every fan wants to see is Hal/Sinestro dynamics, Jeremy Adams stole Hal's frenemy relationship with Sinestro and gave that to John. Come on, hasn't John taken enough things away from Hal?
