But Why Tho? - William Tucker

    May 28, 2025

Absolute Wonder Woman Issue 8 refreshes just the right amount. The interlude in Hades likely provided a break and helped build the wider mythology. But Wonder Woman is just such an incredible character, with so much variety, that it is impossible to get bored of her. Read Full Review

You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff

Thompson and company advance-in on a decided earthbound threat for Diana as her second major storyline. The mutation of the familiar in an alternate universe has a tendency to be a bit tedious at times. Thompson and company make it fun to discover an alternate perspective on the familiar. Absolute Wonder Woman continues to find a fascinating corner of a new universe in which to explore nightmare visions of the DC that readres have come to know and love over the years. Its also nice to see Thompson taking her time with it. When introducing elseworld, theres also the tendency to want to throw everything at the page right away. Its nice to see Thopson take her time to introduce the first major villain in the eighth issue. Read Full Review

Absolute Wonder Woman #8 kicks off this new arc by taking the foundation of its previous issues and kicking it up a notch. This is a story that continues to get better with each issue while introducing layers to Diana and bringing in original and fresh backstories and ideas. This continues to be one of the best things DC has produced this year and you do not want to keep missing out. Read Full Review

Overall, As My Mothers Made Me gets off to a solid start, as the darker side of human nature begins to show itself through Veronica Cale and her attempt to weaponize the final death screech of an absolute monster. We're also introduced to Dr. Poison, who I'm sure will be a source of some intriguing story developments as the arc progresses. Read Full Review

The Fandom Post - Chris Beveridge

The Wonder Woman book continues to be pretty much the one that's strong with each issue in a way that I cannot deny. Even when it does a short two-part story to help fill in the blanks with a guest artist, it does so in a way that plays to its strengths and feels essential and truly part of it, rather than just lightly fleshing out something. This issue sets up some really engaging characters and concepts to work with and does so with strikingly beautiful and vivid designs with color work that makes me crave a large oversized library edition on some truly high-quality paper. Can't get enough of it. Read Full Review

Get Your Comic On - Neil Vagg

Absolute Wonder Woman #8 takes big, bold steps towards embracing more of Diana's legacy in comics. The addition to two major villains from her past widens the mythology of this new book. Putting a new spin on both characters honours what DC is seeking to do with its All-In era of storytelling. Read Full Review

    Weird Science - Gabe Hernandez

    May 28, 2025

Absolute Wonder Woman #8is a decent, albeit incomplete start to a new arc when Diana sets out to find other Amazons. Kelly Thompson's script builds on the foundational aspects of the first arc for a relatable start. However, this arc starts without anything resembling stakes or urgency. Plus Hayden Sherman's return to the title regrettably looks like a downgrade compared to the previous two issues. Read Full Review
