Ultimate Spider-Man #17 would be a darn fine Spider-Man comic if Spider-Man actually showed up. Jonathan Hickman delivers another Spider-Man-free issue, opting instead to have Green Goblin and Mysterio start a war against the Sinister Six. Meanwhile, Gwen Stacy, who has controlled OSCORP from the beginning, is Mysterio. Members of this cult are infiltrated everywhere, such as Robbie Robertson and Mr. Wesley, who are executing a secret agenda.
Gwen tells Harry that they have Mysterio's amulet for a week and that it's time to implement their plan. Harry, on the other hand, has Otto working for him in secret. He managed to reactivate the AI with Norman Osborn's mind uploaded. Osborn is constantly attacking and belittling Harry, but this apparently focuses Harry, and their complicated relationship reaches levels of deep psychological damage.

Let Hickman cook. This a fantastic story. Spider-Man is gonna be in the next issue so the babies can enjoy it again.
Another one of this run's weaker issues, unfortunately. That said, this book has been so great, overall, that I'm still rating the weaker issues relatively high. Messina's art isn't quite at the level of Marco Checchetto, but he still puts out some incredibly solid work throughout this issue. As for the story, it was good and engaging. It does mark the second issue in a row with little-to-no focus on the titular character, but at least the story we got was good. I do hope we get more of Peter, though, since this is his book, after all.
It's a needed issue, but doesnt do anything to ascend it to the great level.

Got to be honest, felt being whelmed. It's nice seeing Harry Osborn and Gwen Stacy get some love and shine, but at least make dont make the solicitors completely false. I get sometimes comic books has to lie to keep a plot twist or certain story beats secret so it won't get spoiled, but there's a limit to how much I can tolerate.
Oh gee, Spider-Man's not facing this one alone.... but he's only in the last two pages of this issue. Oh wow, Richard Parker is in the black suit..... well no not really. Again, this series isn't bad, but I expected more. It seems to me that Hickman is interested in building the world around Ultimate Peter Parker, but Earth 6160 Peter Parker is his own side-character. Oh damn, it seems that the editorial team put the wrong synopsis and title to this book. I hope to read real USM issue one day, but Ultimate Green Goblin #17 is good enough until that.
Even if I am using a joking tone, I am serious and also getting more and more annoyed. This book just doesn't focus on the titular character. It feels like a B-book that is mostly about the side cast.
It's good. Don't get me wrong. It's good. I like the revelations, world building, character interactions and Messina's art is solid. But it's not Ultimate Spider-Man. If it was, it would focus more on the titular character for three months straight instead of just having him make a small cameo for two issues straight.
