This issue was just a slog to read but thankfully got more interesting in the final couple pages.

I made an account just to dog on the sheer stupidity of this comic.
This stupidity I reference is ultimately displayed in Ryan North's character's portrayal of Doctor Doom during this issue. It is revealed that Doom has been incarcerating the citizens of Latervia and using them as a battery for his own selfish desires. I swear, just writing that gave me an aneurysm because of the betrayal of how this character has been represented.

Doom is selfish and authoritarian, yes, but also deeply protective of his nation. Time and again, stories have shown him as a jealous yet fiercely compassionate ruler who genuinely believes he’s the best guardian of Latveria. North’s portrayal strips away all but his authoritarian side, discarding 60+ YEARS of nuance and history


So I wonder why can't North prioritise how the only bad aspect of Doom was his authoritarian control and people's lack of the right to vote for their leader, so Reed and the other heroes are forced to make a change to prove they are superior. Furthermore, I have genuinely no clue why this was done again, only now making him enslave his people when on multiple different occasions, the people who found out that he enslaved his country, only just found it out now.

In conclusion, just retcon that their slavery was also an illusion, and he's protecting them in like a pocket dimension or something. more

I liked North's FF run but have been struggling with this event but this reveal that Doom is sacrificing the people of Latveria to make the world better is garbage and totally goes against the character. Just another example of how awful Marvel has become and a lack of good editorial staff. This would have been fine if it was any other nation but Doom is all about his people and only his people so sacrificing them to help other nations is just awful and so disappointing to see how low the Marvel line has become. more

I had plenty of fun with the characters in this issue and event but there was far too much hand wavy moments that really took away from the issue. The worst part of the event was the generic villains where had they stuck with Nate as the big bad as it started, would've been so much more interesting. Still a fun read and looking forward to the future issues of both series now that the event put things back in place. more

I really liked all the character moments at the school and with the parents but the whole shift where Captain Comet was just testing Clark by betraying him after we explicitly saw him working with Lane felt very unnatural where the concept would've been fine without that scene in the previous issue.

Still the best Batman book out there. I wasn't happy with Fraction's last issue, and then I read this. We have a mystery, a viable threat, and a father-son budding relationship that is hampered by duty. I hope that he doesn't draw it out like the Momento story. Six issues is good. Love the Penguin in here as well.

This was such an excellent issue and shows what PJK is capable of. I like his writing but find he gets so bogged down in lore that it often kills any momentum to, or even interest in, his stories yet his character work and general concepts are fantastic. If he learns to consolidate the lore to his stories and tighten up the amount of issues for a story, he'll be a great writer.

I felt this issue was really firing on all cylinders. The character work between Bruce & Damien was fantastic, all the character voices were authentic, the pacing was perfect, the angle of Damien & the "strays" continues to be awesome, the concept of the quiet man is cool & the reveal wasn't brutally dragged out (like the last story), and the Penguin, Harvey, & Ventriloquist are 3 of my favorite Bat-villains so really enjoying how this is going. more

Some decent moments but some of the character voices felt off (especially Grod). I went into this expecting some dumb fun but I'm nervous for how this plays out as I found Death Metal to be awful and already getting some of those vibes here.

The stories felt too dragged out and was kind of a slog to read but the final few pages with Leo were excellent and made it worth the read.

PKJ has a good grasp on Superman but his love of lore building continues to drag down his stories for me as this far future scenario just felt generic and nothing we haven't seen before. The final reveal with Jimmy was great though and makes me want to keep going along with the story.

This felt like a rushed finale. And there is no excuse for that when you take 12 issues to tell a story.

Batman #2 was a solid second issue, not as tight as the first. It was a little too Tim Drake - Robin focused … with an unwelcome side of Damian Wayne. The narrative was a little loose with flashbacks cut into the main attraction. Frankly the book would have been just fine without the flashbacks, the crooked-ish cop plot should have been enough carry the book. It’s a slight step down from the first issue, but I still recommend it, I’ll come back for issue three. more

It's nice to see Vandal Savage as commissioner finally have a meaningful effect on the story but the rest of the issue was just ok. I felt the flash backs really didn't hold any value, besides feeling unnatural with the timeline, the whole learning to drive angle didn't really execute the fatherly bonding feels it was trying to achieve. My biggest gripe was Bruce just leaving the shot gun right next to that cop after he clearly established he's unhinged. more

Good issue and I've enjoyed Aaron's run but it's disappointing that all he basically did was create inner family turmoil (that lasted far too long in my opinion) to just fix things back to where they were and leave.
