West Coast Avengers #4 provides some decent action and some much-appreciated character moments that serve to underline the tensions present in this patchwork team. Uneven artwork, a lack of overall plot progression, and an absence of strong tension or stakes detract from the quality of the story, but Duggan's affinity for Firestar serves him well, as does his confidence in handling characters like Iron Man and Blue Bolt. This was a super fun bubblegum pop issue. Not sure I understand all the negative comments I've been reading regarding the art. I'm totally digging this book's aesthetic, from the pencils to the colours...I see a lot of art out there that's way less appealing to me and it somehow gets a pass...I guess it's just a questions of taste...

Bit of a drop from last week, mostly because the art falters. It’s inconsistent. This issue is less about action and more about bonding and intent, and it provides more emotional content and a satisfying connection between Blue Bolt and Firestar, it just doesn’t really move things forward in any way, and the stakes are no higher than they were at the end of the last issue. However, I am warming to the team, and want to see how the story progresses now that the characters are more fleshed out. It’s got to be Rhodey’s turn soon, right?

Looks like I have the same rating as everyone else on this book. It's just not working for me. Tony seems out of his depth. He took a quick look Ultron's code and said, "Yeah, we're good." I agree wholeheartedly with Firestar. Though they completely destroyed her character. Whenever Marvel doesn't know what to do with a character they make them an alcoholic. I grew up watching Spiderman and his Amazing Friends. This is not Firestar. It doesn't look like her. It doesn't act like her. In addition, we have multiple Ultrons, which doesn't make a bit of sense. I'm also not a fan of the look or character of Blue Bolt. He looks like a Dreadnok from GI Joe. I mostly agree, but I love Blue Bolt. He's probably the reason I'm still reading this title.

I can see how he can be likable. He just seems like a character that's more attuned to the Thunderbolts than the Avengers.

Absolutely, the concept is very Thunderbolts. I guess I just love a guy with a naked hairy chest and a macho attitude. The last couple of issues have shown that there's more to him though.

With some great, believable dialogue and strong characterization, especially for Firestar and Blue Bolt, plus a relatively well-drawn action scene, this issue fares a bit better than the last one. However, if the quality of the art doesn't improve soon, I don't think this will be a very long run.

I honestly don't mind if there's no action and we get character drama. Sadly, the writing doesn't make this issue engaging to me
