Iron Man wastes no time in establishing its premise, and it reverberates throughout the rest of the issue in compelling ways. While A.I.M. has targeted Tony Stark at various times over the years, Madame Masque's leadership brings a different perspective, and she shifts their goalposts from copying Stark's inventions to finding a Stark to call their own. It's a pivot from simply trying to catch up and react to proactively finding someone who can innovate and set the standard for decades, and for an organization like A.I.M., it makes all the sense in the world. Those sorts of meaningful character shifts are what make Williamson's Superman run so rewarding over time, and that's already starting to happen with Iron Man in the very first issue. Simply put, Iron Man #1 does everything a first issue should. It respects the past without weighing new readers down with continuity. It has expressive artwork and amazing action sequences. This is is everything you could want in an Iron Man series. Read Full Review

Capes & Tights - Justin Soderberg

    Jan 29, 2026

Iron Man is a fitting return to Marvel Comics for Joshua Williamson. Along with stellar artwork by Carmen Carnero, Williamson brings a new and fresh take on Tony Stark while also respecting his past and the history of the character. I am excited to see where these creators take this series and how Tony Stark attempts to right his mistakes. Read Full Review

A new era begins on a high note with Tony Stark challenged by his own legacy in a thrilling opener. Williamson's excellent writing taps into Stark's complicated persona. Carnero & Woodard gift readers with visuals straight out of the movies. Ol' Shellhead is back with a run you can't miss! Read Full Review

    AIPT - David Brooke

    Jan 28, 2026

Joshua Williamson and Carmen Carnero deliver a confident, stylish relaunch that understands both Iron Man's legacy and his modern appeal. By focusing on the cave that made him a hero, the creative team taps into the character's core while letting Carnero's dynamic art and strong character acting do much of the storytelling. This first issue doesn't reinvent Iron Man, but it doesn't need to. Its strength lies in execution, clarity, and a sense of fun that reminds readers why Tony Stark works best when he's embracing who he is. If this issue is any indication, Iron Man is in very good hands. Read Full Review

Comic Book Revolution - Kevin Lainez

    Feb 01, 2026

Everything about Joshua Williamson and Carmen Carnero's Iron Man #1 comes across as a true fresh start. They don't do this by simply hitting the reset point on Tony Stark and the world around him. Instead they simply embrace the character's history, quirks and all, and focusing on having Tony move forward. Read Full Review

    KPB Comics - Phillip Creary

    Jan 28, 2026

Iron Man #1 is a good, if familiar start. It manages to be a high-octane superhero book while setting up a deeply personal mystery for Tony Stark. If you're a longtime Iron Man fan or just a fan of the movies looking to jump into the comics, this is a great entry point. It's fun, it's sexy, but it makes you wonder if Tony will ever break his cycle of being his own greatest enemy. Read Full Review

Iron Man #1takes off at an electric pace, leaving no room for boredom as the new team launches into a story rife with intrigue, charm, and high-octane thrills. Williamson's return to Marvel is a welcome one, as he brings the same unapologetic love for these characters that he's exemplified with his storied career at DC Comics. Read Full Review

    Graphic Policy - Brett

    Jan 28, 2026

Iron Man #1 isn't bad. But, it also doesn't excite enough to match what we know Williamson can do or a debut issue. It saves its big idea until the end and the lead up to that feels like an arc for a series that's been around for years. This is one for the diehard Tony Stark and Iron Man fans and here's hoping Williamson's overall plans are a bit more exciting than this. Read Full Review

Weird Science Marvel Comics - mrgabehernandez

    Jan 28, 2026

Iron Man #1 entertains without earning your continued investment. Williamson delivers clean action and confident dialogue, but the issue exists as prologue rather than opening chapter, betting you'll care enough about mysteries to follow up. For readers hooked on MCU nostalgia and comfortable with slow-burn storytelling, this lands comfortably as worth your time. For readers who want a complete story with actual stakes and character consequence, you're getting sold a trailer masquerading as a comic. The book's technically solid and the promise is intriguing, but solid promises don't justify six dollars when the payoff lives in next month's issue. Read Full Review
