Uncanny X-men …here comes the final rant. Gail hyped this issue up on her Facebook page. Here is Gail in her own words. “ Just saying, if you have been away from UNCANNY X-MEN for a bit, today is the day to jump back on board. It's a new arc, and some important new characters are involved, and I can't say more but this is a good jumping back-on point and this story REALLY goes bananas.Gambi t needs an exorcist.And the one Rogue found might not be working on the side of the angels!Plus, NEXT issue, it's the first appearance of...well, that would be telling.The last time I did a message like this was the debut of the uber-popular MUTINA, so just saying, it's a GOOD JUMPING ON POINT.” What I read this week was such a jumbled mess full of unexplained nonsense I thought I missed 2-3 issues. Rogue brings the possessed Gambit to Gabriel the demon hunter who I recall from old 70s marvel comics. How he knows Rogue, no idea. Never explained. Calico all issue displays bizarre trauma. Which necessitates her teammates hugging her ? Apparently gambit used to do this ? Why is someone so insane on the X-men ? Last issue she was dancing with her lesbian lover. This issue …in the fetal position needing to be coddled. The person to do it is Someone she’s never met or been introduced too…. Also someone who is just here for reasons. Quicksilver. it doesn’t go as planned as she tries to kill him. Oh and the Gambit possession. Turns out it’s a fly demon. That’s the issue. Just stuff. The big reset for Gail. No explanations. Just bullshit. I’m done. Uncanny has been dropped. A collector since Giant size #1 which I bought at 8 years old in 1989 for $110. I saved for a full year doing chores. Back then I was so excited to see Wolverine and the team. Now I’m 44 and I despise the book. I’m gone. more

a major title like ASM and not a single user review. and its Sunday! thats insane. well ill tell you my thoughts. Joe Kelly is writing an angry jealous childlike Peter who is very unlikeable. in fact this issue Peter is just a nasty sad sack for much of it. IDK where this Cormac stuff is going but just look at the stars of the issue on the opening pages. who are these losers ? Joe needs to fix this story and go someplace and not rush to an awful ending like the last storyline. Ed's art is fantastic and elevates the book to a 6 for me. but story alone- this is a 3. more

Gambit needs an exorcism. Calico needs therapy. I need a different book.

Seriously, I can’t take this constant entitled whining from the Outliers anymore. I actually liked these kids when they were introduced, but Rogue’s team is treating them like five year olds, not like future X-Men. These kids need to learn how to shut the fuck up and get the job done. All of them except Random are constantly crying about the most trivial things, and instead of the grown ups telling them to get a grip, even their most childish behavior is being validated. Calico in particular is portrayed as a person who has suffered constant abuse from her mother. Simone actually does a good job at showing her trauma in a consistent way - but if she is really that damaged, she doesn’t belong on a team like the X-Men.

This is another issue I have with Simone’s writing. Despite the fact that she is constantly talking about keeping the children safe, she also portrays their relationship to the grown X-Men in a very weird and inappropriate way. Gambit has been a little too close to these girls physically, considering he is not their biological father and these are teenage girls, not children. Maybe this was the artist’s choice, but you have to be really careful about these things, especially when one of your main themes is child abuse. In this issue Quicksilver is filling Gambit’s role, carrying Calico like a baby (a young woman who is not injured, just confused) and wanting to “tug her in”. Eew.

But enough of that. The other storyline - Gambit and Rogue asking this Gabriel character for an exorcism - makes even less sense. Did I miss something? Who is this Gabriel? It seems like the X-Men have met him before, but where? Who is this demon? Why is Rogue talking in this weird, stilted way? To be honest, at this point I don’t even care anymore. more

Batman is one of the best characters around. just like Spiderman. it's the Pinnacle of comics. so why on both books are these writers awful? Fraction cannot tell a story! We in fact get fragments of multiple stories. all started. not finished. many abandoned. and Matt has the balls to throw in one more with a groups of assassins coming to Gotham to kill Bruce. Finish just one plot point Matt F raction! Jesus Christ and the idea Bruce didn't read Alfred will, and was a member of a secret society of butlers who were with heroes ? WTF sense does that make given Batman's origin and Alfred was already the butler to the parents?? stuff just happens. all over the map in this book. Im losing my patience with this book.Fraction needs to dial it in and actually tell a goddamn story. this book is a wreck with some cool moments but at least it's absolutely gorgeous to look at. the elevator fight is awesome and a highlight of the book. if Matt can tell a story from start to finish this book could be very cool. but this just isn't it. more

all you have to do is look at the number of reviewers giving this a score. No ones reading this book and with good cause. Shard? who asked for this awfulness. Saladin is soon to be removed from Wolverine where he has written an awful Logan. Don't believe me? read the first storyline with the Windego and you'll see a little kid who drew a comic about eating his friend. not even exaggerating. anyway ... back to this trash. this comic is mostly people with giant hair battling. thats really how best to describe it. its dreadful. don't hate yourself enough to read this. its never going to be remembered or sourced back by anyone. more

X-men Outback. Lord almighty. Im going to say it. Steve Freakin Orlando is writing the best Xmen book in Marvel right now. But thats like dunking on a kid in a wheelchair. This comic has Maddie tryin to hack Reaver tech all night but she triggers a hidden super reaver named Godshredder who looks like the adamantine mixed with beta ray bill. Godshredder sends out drones that mind control each of the xmen except Wolverine. Logan then goes on to take out each team mate one by one. Until he goes one on one with the villain. we move at a lighting pace through the issue. We see Logan vs each xman in 1-2 panel battles with text summarizing what happened. Missing out on what could have been a few issue story line.. all just thrown away. The reveal at the end is cool. The concept of the issue is cool. But We just rush past it. It’s still the best x-men book out. Im taking what I can get. But this still was such a missed opportunity.more

X-men #34. Juggernaut is upset by a statue of trask the sentinel creator and attacks it. However it’s protected by an unbreakable force field. So all issue we get some kind of introspection on Juggernaut before the X-men come to clean up this cry baby bitch. What was this issue besides nothing on a page ? Character work? Who cares. The X-men last I knew were battling the evil powered team lead b y Cassandra and dark beast. All paused for this issue of nothing. Next time I’ll just burn $4.99 plus tax. Christ sakes man. Someone save the X-men !! more

Chris, I love you man. All that you have done of X-men cannot be repaid. But this book was so mid. it adds nothing. we didnt need it. The art and the colors are just dreadful. My score is higher after reading current Uncanny X-men then this right after. gambit is in a trench coat and suit at a high end casino. just painful.

This comic is $7.99 for a 55 page book from Saladin Ahmed ,who is currently writing a terrible Wolverine comic and Erica Schultz, has written nothing of note or good ever. The cover pretty much tells you all you need to know. Absolutely awful costume designs for a mutant masquerade ball. We did a bunch of these terrible, orgy type Galas over and over in Krakoa. Those were dark times that I wish we re long forgotten.so lets revisit it! This time we get the same BDSM looks for once great characters like Cyclops and Wolverine. Each page seeing these costumes gave me embarrassment and sadness for what they have done. I thought the fishnet look for Cyclops was bad a few years back but nope.
We open with Sebastian Shaw giving a speech about mutants and yada yada...lets all dance and show off our bondage met gala inspired outfits in hope of variant covers. as promised we get our murder mystery. however keeping anyones interest on that mystery for 50 plus pages when its written this poorly is an endurance challenge. Ahmed and Schultz couldn't pull this off. the reveal at the end is poorly done. The books pacing is awful. there is so much talking to fill pages. We don't actually get to see any murder or get started on the books plot until page 22... I was checking the page count over and over. the opening art was lovely to see. then it completely falls apart. by page 30 we actually have the heroes decide to find the killer. thats how much talking there is. the reveal on who killed Shaw, just terrible. This is a really bad comic and no one should buy it. I know i'm sorry I did. more

Really fun issue at times . I love prime. I love the art. The writing…it’s off because it’s just so meta. It gets nuts. And wtf are we rushing this storyline ? I love me some prime time. But we go at lighting speed to a conclusion to move on to the Zod plot. It’s really it’s a huge miss. We could have had a huge storyline full of prime and more witch fire Lost opportunity by Williamson. Prim es personality is so damn funny. I’m disappointed we just seem to not be getting more.

Gail did it again. Her absolute worst issue of an atrocious storyline. We start the issue with Rogue on her way to save the team as they fend off the Nur ,who are alien exterminators to kill the brood nest on earth Just where the outliers are having a dance .how it got there,how didn’t they know before the dance, Are the Nur worth exploring as a new threat? Who cares ! Gail doesn’t think so. we b arely see them in this issue and i counted it’s 4 pages. Then Just a bunch of spaceships towards the end. The brood we see even less. And just like last time.. issue 1 of the storyline the brood are holding guns. Then issue 2 guns disappeared. Now issue 3 guns are back then disappear again. No one cares to get things right. Night crawler escaped from the ship last issue. How? It’s never even mentioned this issue.he just goes back n forth teleporting at will. Mutina…just stands around. Does nothing but talk. Do you want to see Wolverine in this issue ? Nope. He’s barely in it. What about gambit. Well he transforms into something called Wyvern. With horns a tail and big wings.what in the holy hell is happening here? We get Gail’s usual crap. Teenage lesbians. No explanations.awful pacing. The story gets all wrapped up in a epically bad ending that involves a Galactus illusion to tell the Nur to leave.

We get 2 sentences to wrap up the ending and it amounts to -All the bad guys left. The comic equivalent of poochie dying on his way to his home planet. This series has only ever been about one thing. Gail shoving her awful characters down our throats and crowning them the “new mutants”. Gambit, who is now transformed back to a human at the end.how?When? What makes him transform? Is the Vig ok ? Did anyone give him his arm back? Who cares. We end on gambit and rogue leaving to help gambits apparent possession. This book is everything wrong with the X-men. This three issue storyline was putrid. The art sucks. The story is crap. The characters are annoying. Everything is terrible. 0/10 is my score. Tom B. Please. Get This talentless hack off the damn book. And find someone. Anyone. Just please save the X-men books. more

This issue is terrible. I was semi interested in the plot laid out in issue #1. Barbara , as part of Batman's plans lets herself get caught to investigate murders at Vandals Prison. how the prison this scale came into being so fast, and all that...its comics. We seemed to have forgotten all of that stuff. Barbara is popping pills given to her by someone random character, why ? for someone so b rilliant she sure is trusting. the book offers nothing. in fact is this just more pages from the previous issue? does Mariko have a story to tell?? you can entirely avoid this issue because nothing happens.save your $3.99. more

Battle beast #11 Wow This was fun. Huge battle. Funny chemistry between the 2 as they bash each other all over the planet. No notes. Give us more of this. Im sad the stakes are diminished since it's a prequel book but im still enjoying the run.

Infernal Hulk #9. this book is back on track after a disappointing previous issue. I wish Nick was back as the artist. The book suffers without his visuals but I get hes working on bigger books to come. The art here just was so mid and I cant stand when artists don’t draw faces on big groups shots.overall still good stuff. Hulk and Dr voodoo... given the circumstances it makes sense and works. W ell Done! more

X-men #33. Christ Almighty ,Why is Jed still on this book? It gets worse each time but honestly looking at the talent Marvel has right now writing.. who would take this place ? Is kid omega a wise soul now giving advice? Wasn’t he trying to attack a whole town maybe 3 issues ago? Jed lacks a voice for these characters and this series . Such a jumbled story that jumps around too much while rushi ng at lightning speed to an ending. Jeds book is all over the map in terms of tone. I can only assume hes trying new things to see what works but nothing lands.hearing reports that they are keeping the creative teams on X-men is beyond depressing and upsetting. If I have to endure Saladin, Gail or Jed anymore with crummy solo series I’ll drop all the X books. Anyone , Someone. Just please save the X-men. These books are just not the quality we deserve. more

I know this is Marvel simply cashing in on the movie but there is such a glut of bad books coming from Marvel that I'll take anything. I just want something to enjoy reading and this really fits the bill. I dont mind a Spiderman cracking jokes and this issue has plenty of them. Frank is vintage ice cold Punisher. Peter is our friendly Neighborhood Spiderman and we get a classic story with vintage style art. it worked and I loved this issue. Great stuff. If only Marvel can translate this to its actual main line titles fans could enjoy the books again. more

This one had me rolling my eyes hard. I found the first two parts of Anomaly moderately entertaining (as much as one can in this X-Men era of retarded storytelling and lazy art), but MacKay‘s anticlimactic kitchen sink psychology conclusion is a huge letdown.

Another okay-ish issue of Safe Space X-Men. The story and dialogue in this one feel completely rehashed and redundant, but the art is slightly above average. Unfortunately we have not one, but two guest pencilers, although the difference between their styles is not that extreme.
All in all, an issue that nobody needed, but that doesn't hurt anyone either.

In response to MisterNob ody‘s comment: I review books because I’m interested in them. That doesn’t mean I love every single issue. Sometimes I dislike a complete run, but I still read it because I’m invested in the characters. I’d also say that a 6 is not a bad review, it’s an average review. If I rated any okay book 9 or 10, what would I rate the good ones? The great ones? The masterpieces?
Also, a critical review is not trolling, but insulting and tearing down other reviewers because they don’t like a book you like probably is. Sad, so sad.more

When you look into the writer and how polarized they are in one direction of feminism I’m sure people won’t give this book a chance just based on that. That’s a shame because the first issue isn’t bad. It lays down a decent frame work for this series to function in. However the only reason I don’t go higher is that’s pretty much all it does. It’s a little too light a read for people that aren’t Clayface fans. I’m interested to see what comes next. more
