Daredevil #6

Daredevil #6 returns to the very strong character work from the first three issues that still took place in New York. Issues four and five both dealt with Matts transition to the leadership of the Fist (especially four). But both were more nuts and bolts plot oriented. And while this issue does significantly advance the plot via Elektras scenes, the strength of the issue is the character beats which are what has made the series compelling from the beginning. Daredevil #6 is a brilliant character issue. It allows those that have just arrived a chance to demonstrate their personality in what is quickly growing into a large cast of eccentric figures. Those at the heart of the story, Matt and Elektra, have spent a while building an army with the ability to take on the Hand, and it is great to see the strains that becoming a leader has on those with the world on their shoulder. Their time at their base has often seemed like one of training and tranquility. But with one final page, Zdarsky introduces a figure that is the opposite of tranquil. Read Full Review

This issue helps to progress the upcoming war between the Fist and the Hand. A wild reveal will have you wondering how much power the Hand holds, Daredevil is dealing with a heavy crown as a leader, and Elektra will be on the run. Are they strong enough for war? Second-tier villains are confronted with therapy and care, yet their experiences expose the bars that still remain. It's an impressive series of sequences that challenge how hard any genuine reconstruction of the justice system will be given abundant time and resources, and the former is not forthcoming. Daredevil #6 continues to up the stakes as The Fist vs The Hand war escalates even more. Chip Zdarsky and Rafael De Latorre do a phenomenal job with the story being told around Matt Murdock and Elektra Natchios. That said, now that Frank Castle has been introduced into the story as a physical presence Zdarsky and company need to do a better job with how they bring in plot beats from the ongoing Punisher series into their Daredevil work. While it is a concern, I do trust Zdarsky to deliver a compelling story. Read Full Review

Daredevil #6 continues the extended break in the action to engage in multiple therapy sessions with the recently escaped Raft inmates. The art looks great, and the dialog is well-crafted, but the story is moving at a snail's pace, resulting in a well-crafted but dull issue. Read Full Review

Aside from Elektra's antics, the rest of the comic picks up with Daredevil‘s attempts to rehabilitate the super-powered convicts he broke out of prison in the last issue. Let's just say it's a work in progress, and despite all his words of help he hasn't yet told a single one about the war he needs them for as canon fodder. OMG!!!!!!! What an amazing story by Chip. This is the best book for me so far. And the next one is where this story has been leading up to the fight with the hand and the punisher. If your not reading this book you are missing out.

Wow! Just like the last issue this is a perfect daredevil issue! The pacing of this story is perfect as well as it establishes the plot properly and doesn't feel rushed. The scale of the hands reach and the upcoming battle feel insurmountable but Matt, elektra and stick must find a way. On a personal note as a collector of every daredevil book chip zdarsky's run has been absolutely amazing! The frank Miller daredevil and the entire vol 2 run have always been my favorite daredevil books but zdarsky's story just keeps getting better so it appears I have another story to add to my favorites and there's nothing wrong with that

I still hate the concept of Goldman but arriving else was on point. Even just the mention of Bullet’s son makes me happy, hes truly one of the forgotten gems of Nocenti’s Daredevil run. The art during the Iron Man vs Elektra battle was so good

As the war gets closer and closer, Daredevil tries to rehabilitate the Super-Villains by giving them therapy sessions and a better place (and conditions) to live, all in hopes that they choose to fight with him. The conversation between DD and Bullet was the highlight of the issue for me. I like how Zdarsky always points out the flaws in DD’s beliefs and then have him face them. Then on the other side of the world, we have Elektra investigating if the rumours about The Hand using world leaders as puppets are real. After a fight with Iron man she finds out the unfortunate truth, the rumours are true, and to make things worse, the President jumps out of the window and kills himself, making it seem like an assassination, complicating ever ything for Matt and Elektra. Another amazing issue that is character-driven but also moves the plot forward in an interesting way. Art is great too. more

This issue begins with a dialogue about the morality of the prison system and how matt arrogantly is trying to prove he knows better than it. It ends with Elektra discovering that Joe Biden is a clone created by the hand that then suicides out of the white house and disintegrates into dust. If that isn't enough to make you want to buy this series then I dont know what is.

Although the script's words aren't truly world-class, its structure is admirably complex and there's some great thematic work running all the way through this issue. Things are similar on the visual front: While this isn't the title's a-game Checchetto art, it certainly gets the storytelling job done. This volume may have started slow, but now it's ramping up toward a fearsome climax (I hope).

Good art, meh story. Beginning felt like Zdarsky having a go at "Heroes In Crisis"; complete with the signature Tom King 9-panel grid interview headshots. This run is also getting a little bogged down by Zdarsky continually inserting his political views on the prison system into these issues. I'm all for rehabilitation, and that is definitely something that prisons can do better, but breaking a bunch of criminals out of prison is not exactly going to teach them accountability, which is definitely a big part of rehabilitation. It also just seems like a really risky move...breaking a bunch of super-powered villains out of a maximum security prison and just crossing your fingers that they'll join your crusade if you teach them how to prepare e nough garlic? Bold move, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off. Best line of the issue: "...the carrot instead of ME." That was brilliant, gotta give credit where due. Worst line of the issue: "Here, you'll only suffer from CARE." I mean... YIKES. Big yikes. more

It's interesting that Matt wants to rehabilitate all these former villains, but this seems like a delaying hindrance more than anything else in the mission to take down the Hand.

Are the police looking for these escaped convicts? Isnt Daredevil in hot water for springing them? Cole goes against his entire belief system and condones this? Also, the beard makes DD look crazy.
