Lots of stuff was jammed into this issue. The bachelor party stuff was a lot of fun. Both sides of it. For very different reasons. The breakup with Black Cat was understated, but it makes sense given what they've done with it. Peter got into it as a rebound to get past MJ, made a very poor attempt at trying to legitimize it (the sister page) and then continued being a downer since. It was ill-fated from the start. Could they have done more with it? Sure. Could you argue it was pointless? I guess. I could go on a tirade about how there's been a shift in how comics are read for the 999th time, but this time with a focus on large scale storytelling. I don't want to, though. It used to be that writers would just do things in comics and sometime
s they stuck, and other times they were written out. Not everything was essential to the master plan, if there was a plan at all. Black Cat and Spider-Man getting together falls into the latter category. The wedding itself was not incredibly exciting to me, even when it went sideways, but I do want the title to continue in that direction, it's where Wells does his best.
The story with Kamala was nice. We can wrap this up and never mention it again, but it was nice. I saw some people get really mad about Peter saying he only unmasks for kids with uncurable diseases. Like it was some sort of blasphemy. I feel like it's a big tell that you're a cynical asshole if you project your tone onto the character you're reading to such a degree that you disgust yourself. Peter isn't as miserable as you, even with his problems. It's a tough look.
Now for the teases and preludes: The Doc Ock one was fine. I don't really find his motivations that engaging or interesting. Whatever they can do to make him Superior again. I'm sure it'll be fleshed out more in Slott's stuff. The MJ story is actually really well written, even if I'm a little uncertain about her becoming a second-rate superhero. I hope she and Paul continue to grow apart (maybe that's why Black Cat is only now breaking up with Pete. I am shocked.). The Spider-Woman story is actually very intriguing. I'm sold on that series. That last page was rough. The Spider-Boy story teasing his origins is weird, and I'm not really into it. I haven't read that Edge of Spider-Verse issue yet, so maybe that fills in some more gaps? The story about the guy with a rescue kink is so weird, but funny. The goose story was cute. The tease for the next arc actually looks pretty great. I liked the writing from Wells, and Gleason on art makes anything and everything worth it. Take my money. And the last preview for Spider-Man Reign 2 was... gross and crude, and yeah, that's Spider-Man Reign. The art is really good, but it's depicting really gross, uncomfortable things. Really not sure why they're doing a sequel.
All-in-all, a good issue.

Solid selection of issues with a lot to like. The main wedding story i very much enjoyed.
The taskmaster and spider woman bit was cool.
A lot of stuff was set up for future storylines. The MJ bit could've been better bur could've been worse.
Really liked that Peter was going to take the blame for the guys not showing up.

I was shocked to actually enjoy this. Note that I read on Marvel Unlimited so my review doesn't reflect the cost of the issue.
Wells has been way too "silly" in this series (especially the insufferable Inferno "event") but this issue toed the line enough on the goofiness to have some fun without being nonsense. Wells had a good balance of storytelling with comedic beats in Hellions but has yet to carry that quality over in this series. Hoping things pick up though I haven't loved many of the directions he's been going.
I even liked most the back ups.

It's alright. There are stories that weren't most interesting for me, but also great stories in backups.
Main story was... pretty good. Nothing groundbreaking, but very enjoyable. Peter and Felicia breaking up was just... sigh. It just made me disappointed becuse it showcased how poorly that relationship was done. 31 issues and Felicia appeared in 8? I'm not sad that it's gone because nothing was done with it, but oh boy it could've been handled better. But since it's the only criticism I got and everything else I enjoyed, I think it's fair to say that it was a success.
So in conclusion good issue enough. Pricey, but good.
I'm also happy that Wells finally had the talk between Peter and Kamala. I would've liked for it to be longer,
but I like what we got. more

I'm not quite sure that I needed the amount of pages this had, but it was still enjoyable. The main story was good and I'm glad we've finally gotten back to Tombstone. I'm thinking this will act as a prelude of sorts for the upcoming Gang War crossover, which is something I'm really excited for. The first five issues of this series dealt with gangs and such, and they were great. One problem I had with the issue, however, was the handling of Peter and Felicia's breakup. Their relationship didn't really get a large focus in the first place, but it felt like their breakup was super hasty and rushed. I didn't want them to breakup in the first place, but I think, if it was gonna happen, it could have been executed a lot better. As for the rest o
f the issue, I thought it was a fine collection of stories that mainly acted as a preview for other Spider-related books. In this one issue alone, we get previews/preludes to Superior Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, AND Spider-Boy. Plus, we get two random Spider-Man stories from Albert Monteys and Cale Atkinson. They were funny and cute stories, but I don't really think they needed to be here. All things considered, I think this issue had more than it really needed, but, overall, it was an enjoyable over-sized issue. more

As a whole this was way too much. I liked the wedding. When Romita was on art I actually felt like it was back to his JMS days so to say, I think it looked pretty alright. The bachelorette/bachelor parties were fine. The only one worth seeing was between Pete and Randy. I really don't like how Felicia has one party with 'friends' and decides that's it. And that Peter didn't fight it at all. They were just talking about how they loved each other and despite how he's been really cold to her lately I would have hoped we would get a decent issue of them talking out their issues. Maybe then a break would have been fine but it was such a crummy way to end it like this.
The Kamala epilogue is okay. I like what Peter did but I still think that her
dying in a Spider-Man book when she was hardly a supporting character was bad form, hardly dealing with it mostly in passing between Peter and Norman at odd times in stories that had no bearing. Her being an X-Man means nothing to the story and makes her sacrifice mean a little less because we knew what was going to happen and it happened quick.
The Otto deciding to return to Superior feels REALLY forced. And we know it is because it's the 10th anniversary of the book. But wow. He's in a bathroom in a crappy dive bar and we've not really seen much to necessitate that change. I'm not saying I don't want it but the build up has been really lacking.
I enjoyed the MJ and Paul dealing with their trauma and loss, hate the costume.
Spider-Woman's story was interesting but was just thrown in here because she's Spider-adjacent and that kind of makes it feel less important in light of the subject matter, Jess getting her baby back. Powerful backup story but should have been in something else.
Spider-Boy and Madame Monstrosity.. I got nothing. Know nothing about either character.
Perry Thomas and Stanley the Goose were funny but are a horrible way to lead into...
The best part about the issue. Kraven and Queen Goblin getting it on! Jokes aside this story was the highlight and it was three pages. Getting to see what is upcoming instead of giving us more story to the Tombstone stuff that started in issue one and hasn't really been added to since then is way more interesting. I mean and hey, go Kraven.
Oh yeah I forgot about the Reign sequel preview. If it weren't so far at the back that I completely forgot about it until later it would have dropped the score another half point but I really don't think that is fair. We don't need a sequel to that story. I don't think there is a human alive with more than one braincell that asked for that. more

I mean it wasn't bad. I actually kind of enjoyed it. And a good portion of the back up stories which is rare. Overall, ok but I really wish we'd get an exciting run of ASM.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the main strip. There's some heartfelt character drama going on there, the visuals are solid, and the finale undeniably makes interesting status quo shifts.
I'm of two minds about the breakup. Felicia rationalizes it well here, but it still seems to come out of left field. On the other hand, it could be argued that the Felicia/Peter romance wasn't going much of anywhere. It's a shame that she's leaving Peter's orbit AFTER she no longer has her own kickass solo title.
If this were JUST the main strip, I'd rate it a point higher. This is not to say that all the backups are bad; it's just that the bad ones are TERRIBLE.
Snarky fast takes:
The Ms. Marvel strip was brilliant. A nice take on Kama
la and a smart choice by Peter. David López art is always welcome.
Felicia was great in the MJ strip. I hope she's a big part of wherever MJ goes next. Pity about that costume, though.
Spider-Woman: A feminist explained to me 20 years ago how demeaning it was that male writers will permit female characters to be badasses when they're mommies with stolen children. I liked the strip up to that point.
Perry Thomas: This was a funnier joke when it was 3 panels in Watchmen.
Queen Goblin and Kraven: Ick.
Reign 2: A comic that I can't even comprehend without extensive internet research is a failure of a comic. Also, who the @#$% wants more Reign?
Doc Ock, Spider-Boy & Madame Monstrosity: Does Zeb Wells realize how poorly it reflects on his tenure that Marvel has been buying up every last crumb Dan Slott can shake out of his old Spidey notebooks?

There’s a lot to like in the story, really. But how they ended the primary story was beyond frustrating. Again Marvel billing something big for sales, and it’s not. More stuff that was previously setup potentially thrown down the drain - emphasis on potentially. This could be a drama turn that leads somewhere. Billing/marketing something for something it’s not will always bring down scores for me, especially when it’s a more expensive issue.
If you like JRJR, more of the same. If you hate his work, he doesn’t do all of the pages so you get a break from it.
As for the side stories, as much as I hate Paul the MJ story was almost amazing. My issue is *spoiler the rest of the way* MJ does not need to be a super hero. She has st
ood on her own for decades because of who she is. I don’t know who pushed to idea forward but IMO they don’t fully understand what makes MJ great. I will admit, clever with the name.
Other side stories are typical things you find in these thick issues. more
