Spider-Man is back and if you weren't a fan of Dan Slott's extended tenure then this is your time to get back with the web-head. This book mostly captures Peter's voice well and excellently shows off his supporting cast and relationships. Especially for those of us who have collections that reach back deep in the annals of time. Agreed though, Marvel has never been the easiest when it comes to numbering series or having series change titles while keeping the same numerical count. The whole Marvel Fresh Start has left a bad taste in my mouth. Is this enough to kill my overall thoughts of the book? Spencer did a great job resetting Peter Parker's life in a way that does build a future that creates a lot of interesting story possibilities. That said, there are definitely some things that need to be improved on from the Spider-Man side of things. Thankfully Ryan Ottley is on board to draw Amazing Spider-Man because, as this issue showed, we are in store for some great looking Spider-Man comics. There's some good ideas though, and potential fun. But, when a first issue has you longing for the previous creative team, that's not a good sign. As I have said before, as kid, I didn't realize the genius of Ditko at the time, having it pointed out to me by my father. Spider-Man has had many a good run, with top notch creators taking up the webs. Have any been up to the magic of Ditko? That is a matter of opinion and it is unfair to lay that question on this newest of reiterations. This managed to rekindle my love for Spider-Man, which I thought it had been lost forever. I love the art and the Todd Mcfarlane era costume look, I love that MJ is back and I love that it seems we're getting soft "reboot" for Peter Parker to clean up all the clutter that just didn't make sense.

Incredible start. Spencer and Ottley delivered a Spider-Man book that I wanted for such a long time. The writing is strong, the humour, as expected from Spencer, is incredible, and the artwork is great as well - Ottley has a very distinct style which works very well with superhero stories. And that twist at the end of the first story? This is something I've been waiting for such a long long time, that I just cannot explain how happy I am to finally see it again.

What a debut by Spencer. He took the character and infused him with his usual humorous style while dramatically bringing Peter/Spidey's world down around him but still leaving room for redemption and oh man what sweet redemption is being teased here. Wonderful read with a lot of words but anything with Ottley's pencils just looks amazing. Kudos to Rathburn and Laura Martin for making Ottley's art even better. You all produced a very pretty thing here.

Spider-Man simplified down to the basics, loved every page, the humour might not be for everyone but I legitimately laughed out loud once or twice in this book which doesn't usually happen for me and I love the characters and character dynamics setup in this first issue. Overall a very promising start for Spencer and Ottleys run on Amazing Spider-Man.

Amazing Spider-Man #1 shows immense promise for Nick Spencer's run on the title. Peter is cast out yet again. Through this fall he learns more about himself and who he wants to be. The backdrop of the story is an alien invasion. Peter has a cursory role in this. But, this is a chance for Ryan Ottly to draw a massive amount of characters and an awesome full page splash. One negative to note is that Peter looks like he should still be in high school. The issue comes in at 46 pages and does feel long. There's a lot of dialogue that feels slow or unnecessary. I'm relatively new to comics, and a DC guy more than a Marvel guy for sure, but I decided to give Spider-Man a try, and boy did it not disappoint. The humor is fantastic, and the story is funny and sweet while also having some serious moments. It's well-rounded and incredibly enjoyable. I'm no art expert but the art in this issue was incredibly clean and fun to look at and definitely enhanced the writing. Again, because I'm new to comics, especially Marvel comics, I don't know much about the established canon aside from the most obvious information, but the book didn't reference too much from past stories as far as I could tell, which was nice. One of the best starts to an ASM run in years. It isn't perfect, but after reading through the whole run again it is exactly what fans of Spider-Man want: for him to be happy, moving on with his life, and together with MJ again. I wish Nick Spencer had stayed on the series rather than them changing hands to Wells, as his run has been an abysmal waste of time and one giant middle finger to the fans of ASM.

As a Fan of Slott, run I say I'm impressed. Destroying Spider Man life shouldn't be so fun, but it is. Parts from Peter Parker life is very good, and it shows that Spencer done his homework. Problem is with Spider Man part. Human Torch and Daredevil are both Spidey BFF's, so I don't get it. New villain is cool, and he appears to be much more than I thought. I give it A without plus.

This is the Spidey I've been waiting for, and the relationship stuff between Peter and MJ that was teased late in Slott's run may just get paid off sooner than later. Very interesting to see what they may do with One More Day continuity going forward. Great art and exciting premise. I'm in for the long haul on this book.

This is a really fun launch to the new "Amazing Spider-Man," the first time in a long time we've gotten a new creative team on the book, with Nick Spencer and Ryan Ottley taking over. It was a good read, pretty funny and entertaining. It also has that trademark Parker luck working its best to bring Spider down, but by the time the main story ends, I'm pretty sure things aren't looking too bad for Pete, despite the world coming down around him. I really dug Ryan Ottley's pencils here, it's a refreshing look and I really liked "Invincible" ... all told, not perfect, but an entertaining launch to the new series with some neat surprises at the end.

A really fun, simple, but entertaining issue! Everything a Spider-Man issue should be. Nick Spencer has captured the personality and essence of not only Spider Man but all the secondary characters and artist Ryan Ottley's art compliments the script tremendously. I even loved the bonus story with art by Humberto Ramos, which as all good comics should it makes want to immediately read the next issue! Can't wait for the next issue.

This was a really solid opening. I though it was well written and definitely had some cool reveals and definitely ends the main story on one of the best pages any spidey fan can look at. My only issue is the art. I am not saying it's bad. I clearly could not draw anything nearly as cool as this book, but it's just not the style I look for in books I like which is very disappointing. Overall, it is a good start, a new villain appears, some classic villains show up and the return of my favorite aspect of Spidey comics!!!!!!! I don't want to spoil it but, I hope it lasts at least "one more day"

Peter is dragged down to a low yet promising point by dramatic changes to his status quo. He gets a welcome relationship upgrade and the B-Story puts an ominous nemesis on the horizon. I think these creators will do excellent work cranking out ordinary Spidey issues on the regular, but their talents wear a little thin in a giant-sized extravaganza. The comedy pulls the "silly punchline undercutting serious drama" gag once or twice too often. Definitely a start that makes me hope for a better run than Slott's, but it still has a lot to work on to be great. For the nth time, Peter is down on his luck, no money, yadda yadda. Low quality jokes, check. Back in love with MJ, which will last for like 5 issues as usual? Check. Feeling bad for not being able to fulfill Uncle Ben's words? CHECK. The art style comes from the man who drew "Invincible", but it's not quite as good looking here, probably a problem with inker/colorist? An excellent start to Nick Spencer's Spider-Man run. While overly long and full of side plots, this issue perfectly handles the goofy Parker inner monologue, the banter, the maniacal villains, the friend drama, and the Peter Parker bad luck. I was skeptical of this relaunch after being disappointed by everything after "Superior Spider-Man", but there is plenty here to like. This is the type of story Spencer is born to write (go read Superior Foes). I was also unsure if Ryan Ottley would be a good fit, but this issue also eased those fears. The only fault, and it's a big one, is the price and length of this issue. Yes, you get a lot of pages for the price, but some of that is at the expense of padding out the main story. ok here's the reboot I've been dreading and looking forward to at the same time. can Spidey remain my favorite guy? he's had a lot of competition lately. I don't know anything about this creative team other than the internet seems to hate Nick Spencer. here goes. cover: ok art I guess. not happy if the very first issue for the new series is to bring back 4 old foes at once. but sigh... starts with Peter having a dream.. he's in his black suit with MJ at the top of a building being happy. he wakes up to a loud room-mate playing a computer game. and he happens to be the baddie Boomerang. we see that Peter knows who he is, but let him sub-let the third room anyway, to keep an eye on him. seems like a bad idea to me. and wow more
