Aliens vs. Avengers #2

This series has nor right to be as good as it is but just is as the creative team hit every note pitch perfectly. Exceptional writing that shows off Hickman's understanding of who the characters are and their underlying humanity or inhumanity combine with beautifully cinematic art that can in one moment convey wonderfully emotive moments and the next plunge you into a blaze of glory action scene that tug at your emotional core visually and emotively. Plot This installment narrates several events that occur in different eras and different places. First Event: It takes place 100 years ago, in another distant universe, it shows some synthetics destroying a population of Engineers (the beings that supposedly created us and created the Aliens), this Synth rejoices at having destroyed a race that, with a kind of bacteria, begins the process of eliminating all organic beings in the universe. Second Event: 1000 years later, the Synths are about to finish their cleaning work in another planetary system. Third Event: In our world twenty years ago, it shows how Tony Stark sells his company to Weyland, which is run by the Synth, responsible for this entire process of eliminating other liv ing beings. Stark reveals that he makes this sale in order to infiltrate and discover the future investment that Weyland had prepared 16 years in the future. Stark eliminates this Synth but fails to stop the invasion. Fourth Event: In the present, Stark reveals that the citadel that managed to withstand the xenomorph invasion is actually a ship to take what remains of the population to Mars, just before taking off, Captain America brings a group of survivors pursued by xenomorphs, Hulk helps Cap to contain these xenomorphs so that Stark takes off and abandons them to their fate. With Stark are Miles Morales with a Venom symbiote and Captain Marvel. Elsewhere, they show an Engineer analyzing an infection from a distance. This amazing crossover continues to increase the tension and suspense, showing an apocalyptic future that shows no hope. Art It is oil in its most perfect and hyperreal expression, where it plays with pastel tones that give a dreamlike sensation and a mind-blowing dynamism, each panel of each page is a visual delight, it is an instant work of art. Summary Stark manages to escape with over 1,400 people to start over on Mars, leaving behind his fellow soldiers. David 8's plan is on a grand scale that has been in the making for decades. more

My gosh this is quality stuff. I wish this series was at least twice as long. Hickman and Ribic have tapped into something special. Old Man Steve showing up with a whole group of people he couldn't leave behind was peak Cap, and Bruce's line "...if I did, I'd be a monster" was just perfection. This series is bleak AF, but it is so, so good.

Not a fan of Alien Covenant, not a fan of Prometheus retcon, There’s less action and fewer twists than in the first chapter, buuuut… despite all these little flaws, Hickman managed to get me interested in this mythology and totally invested in the story. Once again, impressive.Yes, there are certain recurring themes and obsessions with Hickman (the rise of artificial intelligence, humanity’s resilience in the face of the end of all things), but it doesn’t feel repetitive; we’re still surprised.

Man this needs to be a 12 issue mini. Gold nuggets all over just thrown away. Can be flushed more but that bleakness can drag on. Esad Ribic is at the peak of his craft. Svorcina finally turns up the colors and the hues are much better here.

The older Avengers showed themselves well in this issue, but it was boring for me, and I think there is room to borrow an idea from "The Covenant". I'm looking forward to seeing Wolverine.
