Mar 18, 2026This issue asks a lot of questions it’s not ready to answer yet, and is a fast read, but it really shows just how good Rucka’s grip on the character is. It throws us back into her world with no preamble, and wastes no time engrossing us in a mystery as compelling as any other in the Bat-line. Read Full Review

Mar 18, 2026The pace, intensity, sense of foreboding was all there... like a waking Freudian nightmare coded with the uneasiness of A Clockwork Orange smashed up with One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. This is bolstered with DaNi's raw, moody art that is enriched by colorist Matt Hollingsworth's aubergine palette (I absolutely adore the contrast with the oceanic and picturesque tone of Petalon, Greece in the initial sequence pages (it brilliantly gives you a false sense of security and that's quickly stripped from you when you see the context of why Kate is in this remote part of the world). Mar 18, 2026Broken Mirror All in all, Batwoman #1 is a well-put-together comic that had me confused or off-balance for much of it, yet it left me intrigued enough to plan on grabbing the next issue and see where the story goes. My Darkseid fatigue is very real, so that is definitely a strike against the book, and I’m not sure if my lack of familiarity with the character was actually a blessing or a curse going into this issue. But even if I didn’t understand what was going on, there’s no denying that the creative team are putting their all into this book, an Read Full Review

Weird Science - Gabe Hernandez
Mar 18, 2026Batwoman #1: We loved DaNi's hypnotic layouts and Rucka's prophecy-charged dialogue that propel Kate's defiance with brilliant immediacy, while room for improvement centers on the heavy unexplained backstory that erects a real barrier for new readers despite the fresh #1 status. This relaunch nails the basics with Kate as focal character chasing redemption's goal through trauma's journey, stakes of Anti-Life conversion, and obstacles of grief-possession, but that lore overload dulls its pull-list urgency; it earns a spot mainly if you're invested in the mythos. Mar 18, 2026I suspect that this new volume of Batwoman, like much of Rucka’s work, will read better once collected than as a month-to-month drama. As it stands, I would recommend Batwoman: Elegy to those wanting to know more about Kate Kane before handing them this issue Longtime fans may enjoy it, but I fear few new readers will be adding this to their pull lists. A nice start, although I must say I was hoping for more. Rucka and DaNi is a duo that I feel had a lot of promise and I do still think this has a lot of potential to become better than what it is here. That said, this was a bit slow, without much being established. Perhaps this might work better if it were placed at a different point in the series, though I did like it overall. Rucka does a nice job making the dialogue intriguing, though I do have some problems with the art. I really like DaNi's style, but, as of now, I'm not completely sold on it suiting a superhero book well. There were multiple panels and pages where I really enjoyed her work, but there were others (notably the scenes with more motion/action) that I didn't find to be as more
