An excellent writer, bringing to life a character as complex, tortured and full of contradictions as Jason. Man that would be a resounding success.

Jun 10, 2021Batman: Urban Legends #4 once again delivers several compelling stories involving the Batman Family. The lead story involving Red Hood and Batman by Chip Zdarsky continues to do a great job exploring the status of their relationship as partner's and father-son. The new stories with Luke Fox and Tim Drake both did a great job bringing both characters back into the fold as Batwing and Robin, respectively. It all comes together to create a strong comic book that Batman fans should not be missing out on experiencing. Read Full Review

Jun 10, 2021Batman Urban Legends #4 is good. Three of the stories are five stars. The development of Jason Todd in particular is amazing. This may be the best stuff since Judd brought him back from the dead. I did enjoy a lot of the Outlaws stuff, but it was trying hard to be funnier than it should have been. Jason isn't funny. Dick is funny. Tim is funny. Jason is angry and confused. This book just nails it. I can't wait to see what happens next. Read Full Review

Jun 08, 2021With high highs and" well, middle lows, this is maybe the most inconsistent issue of Urban Legends to date. Given the quality of the best material here, though, there are also points where this is the absolute best issue of the series too. DC makes pacing very difficult and consumes these comics with joint stories. While the Batman and Red Hood story is solid and incredibly good, a total success, the other stories just don't have the quality of the first. It was good to read Tim, he is not a great protagonist as I would like. Jason may be the DC robin he hates the most, but Tim is the most sloppy, which is a shame as they are both excellent. They both deserve their own series, I say that as a big fan of bats. Grifter is an exaggerated character, for my personal taste. Price wise it's undeserved, too high for a single really good story, I don't know how it works in North America, but here in Europe, it doesn't work.

Hood's story work was just perfect, Hood and Batman have started to acknowledge their mistakes. Reading Tim my second favorite robin was good even though the story is not very good. Grifter is no longer a good character, the writer's exaggerations have made him a bit tired.

"You're alive. In the here. In the now. You're alive, Jason. And I intend to keep it that way." Bruce Wayne. These words are something I never thought I had heard from the bat, in Jason's second life everything in their relationship is fine or fights. I always wondered if Bruce was aware of what it's like to have a child back. I lost a brother and I would give anything for this kind of miracles to happen, but fantasy is folded with dreams, imagination and desires. I don't know where to put the story of this comic book writer, because there is no thread, but really since this reboot we did not reboot we are all lost in some kind of flash point. However, the narrative is really good. It is great that the creators of this site allow fans to express themselves, I think there is more sincerity than in the professional reviews. more

This definitely can't be considered canon, there are bigger holes in the plot, bigger than Hopkins investigated. Zdarky is a good writer, but he's so absorbed in the old times, he has not taken into account the evolution of Jason, nor in Lost Days where Jason was configured as a strategist equal or even superior to Batman, nor the formative years in the League of Shadows and let's not talk about All-Caste. And of course I agree with the comment I read about Lobdell. Yes he definitely isn't the best writer and i hates the way he constantly dropped a situations, characters potential as lazy writer or his brain did not give to do more, but at least he had a point in favor, and was gave a character advancement, every character must adv ance, mature not stagnate or worse, like DC is doing now and is going back the characters and retelling past stories, and forgot canon I read a comment that named RHATO 25 as a showdown we all wanted to see instead of Jason's already worn death. Or the use of both would have been great, it's something I've read and many RH fans including myself have waited Thinks Negatives for me, The insistence on making him look inept when the character has been building on his tactical skills and martial arts training for years, making this and other comics inconsistent. Refresh Jason's death with burnt oil. Points in favor. Bruce acting like real father like a should be. It was the first comic in which Bruce calls him son since his return. if i remmenber well. Although Chip touch on Jason's death again, the raw emotions of a usually stoic Batman were something wonderfully conveyed. An Auch when desperate Barbara calls him and says "Jason NEVER .... asked about you Bruce, asked about Batman" auch. That speaks volumes about the relationship between the two. Hood manages to do what Batman couldn't do in all the time he was expended in dances with subtlety and all of his prized detective mind. Hood to find the real criminals behind the street drug. The other backup stories, with the exception of Grifter, who already has numbers that the character feels a bit fake, were good, lower quality but not stupid like the ones that were included. more

Merlyn - Jun 8, 2021Zdarsky didn't care about Under the Hood either, arguably the best Jason Todd story besides DITF. He was giving criminals a hard time there, this version of him seems very weak in comparison. I think the line "Jason never..." was actually implying that Jason never asked for help before, it's in the same theme as him going against Joker alone when he was a kid, here Zdarsky wanted to show that Jason put his ego aside and learned to ask for help. Or at least that was my take on it.
Merlyn - Jun 8, 2021I also loved how Daddy Batman went hard on the criminals when he realized his son's life was in danger, at first he was trying to capture Freeze but when he saw Jason in danger he was like "fuck that, I'm going to wipe the floor with these guys". Really big difference from the depressed guy from King era or the weak, indecisive Batman from Tynion's run.
Merlyn - Jun 8, 2021Only thing that seemed kinda dumb was when iced Jason fell from the truck, I thought for sure the ice would break and he would die, that's usually what happens with Freeze's victims, that really didn't make sense but I put my brain on pause just for that one. :)
SenpaifenixJäger - Jun 8, 2021hahaha the same, fuck I thought, Jason is going to have to be pulled off the pavement with a spatula once he thaws like a raccoon on the road. Today I spoke with Zdarsky and he told me that it would be impossible to write a comic if he had never touched one in his life. I just see him little documented or highly directed by other people.

SenpaifenixJäger - Jun 9, 2021I did not read it and to be honest I am not going to do it, for me it's an unnecessary expenditure of energy reading to those who do not contribute anything to the review neither positive nor negative points. Nor have I wasted my time figuring out if you save multiple aliases. The healthiest thing is to ignore him and if he harasses you like he once did with me, just block him. I give you a divise Don't go with in his madness.
Merlyn - Jun 9, 2021Same advice from me, best thing you can do is ignore the crazies, believe me, I have engaged with them and it doesn't help, if anything, if validates them because the moment you start "feeding" them that's when they get all the satisfaction they need and think their crazy ideas are actually legit.
fearUhavemeisenough - Jun 10, 2021Did you block him? No way! HA! Damn hell! You are the one. The guy is so obsessed with you in a sick way, what you told him? you destroyed him. It's okay. Cross it out, I will follow the recommendation of both of you, you are right. it is not worth paying attention to someone so sad and pathetic. Master @fenix, Man, I'm your fan.
SenpaifenixJäger - Jun 10, 2021By the way @Merlyn how did you find out that Bane is still alive. I hope to see him soon, he really is a great villain, my favorite to be exact.
SenpaifenixJäger - Jun 10, 2021In fact, Fearing the whole context of the fight between Batman and Hood, and then hitting Tim was not pleasant either, far from being broken he was like a crazy idiot, and all for that, falling into the old cycles with the JOker puuuaf. The most ridiculous thing is that they never fixed anything. It is like those arrogant father figures who are unable to apologize.
Merlyn - Jun 10, 2021I'm not 100% sure Bane is alive but I suspect he is based on many reasons. First, DC would never kill such a huge character "off-screen". Second, like I said, in The Joker #1 Gordon talks about what happened to Bane and how in Little Santa Prisca he's basically worshiped as a saint. There, Gordon says "Out of all the presumed dead, I believe in his death in the least. I ask the city coroner to let me examine his body, and am denied the opportunity."
Merlyn - Jun 10, 2021Jimbo is a pretty good detective, I'd say his hunch is correct. Third, Tynion foreshadowed an eventual confrontation down the road between Bane and Joker because Joker was angry at him for killing Alfred in front of Robin instead of making Batman witness the scene, thus making him suffer even more. It was in Batman - The Joker War Zone. Now, there is a 5% chance he really is dead but I really don't buy it to be honest.
SenpaifenixJäger - Jun 10, 2021In my point of view, it was Bane's crazy father and Thomas Bruce as the mastermind who decided to murder Alfred, damn they had everything to blow our brains out with that event and they dropped it in such a disastrous way. Let's hope that the DC crisis is over and he gives us good numbers again, they bring us back to tactical Batman, to the batfamily, to Barbara with more action and TIm and not only to be filled, of course to RH, damn even who has his Nighwing series It has him engrossed in his
SenpaifenixJäger - Jun 10, 2021I'm sorry for my grammar problems, I'm on the phone and I'm not very skilled or in English, and I have clumsy fingers ... 😩
Merlyn - Jun 10, 2021It angered me too what King did to Thomas Wayne. He completely changed the character from what Geoff Johns did with him and all because he had daddy issues (he talked about it in an interview). You ask me, I would have been curious to see an interaction between Thomas Wayne and Jason, they are very like-minded in regards to solutions to crime, I bet Batman wouldn't have liked that. :))
Merlyn - Jun 10, 2021They're bringing Thomas back in Infinite Frontier, I think Williamson is on it.

a long time ago that I'd not connected. This series has really given very solid deliveries, controversial for some, but the principal story is still a strong. The backup ones have a tremendous variation. It is getting a lot in the networks comments about Tim's sexuality due to this number, it is thought that he will become bi, even though I still cannot find the meaning of such rumors.

The Grifter and Red Hood stories were great as usual. I fucking love Grifter accidentally trapping Superman. Matthew Rosenberg, as always, is a treasure. Batman caring about Red Hood in a substantive way is something I want to see a lot more of. The Tim Drake story was super bland and the Luke Fox story was fine. I really think they just bring down the score, as the main attractions here are great.

So this one was better than the one before. Revisiting Jason's fall is always going to get me in the feels but there's one thing I didn't like here. Jason shouldn't fall that easily for a drugged-up Mr. Freeze. If Lobdell did one thing right, he made Jason a competent vigilante, someone like Mr. Freeze was easy-peasy for him. Now Zdarsky just put him back in that "helpless, reckless" territory, something the character has outgrown a looong time ago. But I have to say, I did enjoy seeing an angry, effective Batman, unlike the pussy he's in Tynion's book where he's second-guessing himself just because a no-one like Miracle Molly sells her shit to him. The Batwing story was pretty good too, I liked it. The third story is a really weird one, I didn't enjoy at all what Fitzpatrick tried to do with Tim, he's never "swinged that way" at all. And I'm getting tired of Rosenberg's Grifter, get to the point already, dude. more

fearUhavemeisenough - Jun 8, 2021Lobdell isn't a great writer, but we definitely have to admit that he gave Jason a reasonable evolution, it's silly not to respect canon like DC does now. Something new, unexpected and desired would be to bring the RHATO 25's problem.
SenpaifenixJäger - Jun 8, 2021It is sad that the best that DC can give in its current writers, is for this. So last week I stopped buying and reading a lot of DC comics in support of the company, it has been exhausting. I'll finish this series and the one on FS in terms of shopping, but DC is not making me happy anymore.
SenpaifenixJäger - Jun 8, 2021uuuh i think is about Batman fight. U know because to the blank shot to Cobblepot. I think. I miss to Jay/Art was an excellent couple
Merlyn - Jun 8, 2021That whole "I shot Penguin with blanks because I was playing 4D chess and I wanted to take over his lounge" was ridiculous. But that was not Lobdell's fault, it's clear to me that he really wanted Jason to kill Penguin, he built a lot into that but DC probably didn't let the kill to go all the way since they're so protective of Batman villains.
Merlyn - Jun 8, 2021What annoyed me even more was the fact that for the last years they have done absolutely NOTHING with Penguin so what was the damage in letting Lobdell go all the way with it? Yeah, I liked him and Artemis together too, they were a great pair but I guess DC really doesn't like their characters getting happy.
SenpaifenixJäger - Jun 8, 2021You're the second person to tell me that DC didn't want Hood to kill the penguin, if it happened it's really a ridiculous decision. The murder of the penguin would be justified and not. Justified if Jason took the life of the penguin, not by Willis, that would be a mistake, if it weren't for what happened next with his mother and Jason. But what would be laughable is that Jason murdered the penguin by an abusive father and wasn't it because of the Joker? it's stupid. Now DC decides to kill Bane
SenpaifenixJäger - Jun 8, 2021kill Bane so that now his daughter takes the reins. BANE FOR THE LOVE OF THE MOST SACRED !!!! An incredible character, with an even more trajectory. DC has a problem with their character evolution, Selina's stupid justification for not marrying Bruce says it all. And another problem is that he cares more about his villains than his heroes. And I also think that DC would not like a more solid partner than Barbara / Dick. but those are already past, many fans of both disagree they together.
Merlyn - Jun 8, 2021Oh don't worry, Bane is definitely not dead, Gordon alluded in The Joker book that he doesn't buy it and that he was denied the opportunity to visit the body. No, that's just Tynion trying to create a new character, his daughter, that's his shtick, he creates a lot of new characters in the hopes that when they're used in TV shows or movies he'll be credited and get some money for it.
fearUhavemeisenough - Jun 9, 2021I claim, I made reference to the senseless fight between Batman and Hood, if hood killed the penguin or don't do it, Batman was quite reactive.
fearUhavemeisenough - Jun 9, 2021Tynion must have a great economic crisis, he seems in need of prominence with his new insipid characters.
SenpaifenixJäger - Jun 9, 2021You just gave my soul a break, for a moment I thought they were flushing an excellent villain. Yes, I have noticed that from Tynion, as he raises and lowers them in his writing quality, Tynion is doing well as long as it is not the batfamily, DC should prohibit him from writing more of them.
Merlyn - Jun 9, 2021@fearUhavemeisenough: Yeah, that fight was pretty shitty, I remember I was so looking forward to that issue and the fight was pretty lame, but I did like how Roy came to the rescue at the last second.
fearUhavemeisenough - Jun 10, 2021@Merlyn Roy and Jason are great together, so much fun. Artemis and Jason are the only pair that really work in DC. Imagine having Artemis, Roy and Jason in the same painting.
Mingthemerciless - Jun 10, 2021I know I'm in the minority but I always wanted to see DC take Jason and turn him into their Punisher. Using a Lazatus Pit to bring him back and how it affects the mind and the soul. How perhaps Batmans code really is a hindrance rather than a solution and Batman fighting to not only prove his say is right but also to bring Jason back from a dark place. I know there's a little of that in zdarskys characterization here but Jason keeps trying to not give in to what possibly is his true nature.
Mingthemerciless - Jun 10, 2021I think taking Jason all the way to being as violent and efficient as the Punisher brings in GCPD and Batman into a lot of conflict but in much more organic raw and street level way than than buffoonery we re seeing with the Future State "fugituve" batman right now. Si much potential for Jason with the right writer. Also for Tim Drake my favorite Robin. But U ll give Zdarsky his due. Hes in the right ballpark.
SenpaifenixJäger - Jun 10, 2021@Mingthemerciless you are the second person along with Merlyn that it is pleasant to read your comments. What makes me desperate about DC is the warmth to make decisions, nor do they make Jason a Punisher-type bastard or part of the family, it is the food according to what they adjust. It wouldn't bother me to see wild Jason dispense justice to a failed and corrupt state. Nor being playing fair with bats.
SenpaifenixJäger - Jun 10, 2021Tim is my second favorite robin, please where is the Red Robin times an incredible comic for my taste. I want that Tim back, not the filler character
Mingthemerciless - Jun 10, 2021Cheers fenix. I know I'm a minority but I think Jason would be an incredible force in the Batverse if he became essentially DCs Punisher. Hes incredibly well trained. As a strategist he can rival Batman. And the conflict not only within himself but with his adopted father would make for great tension and dynamics. That iconic shot of Redhood with a duffel bag full of goon heads to terrorize Gotham's criminals was brillian...and it worked. A good writer can make Jason a force to be reckoned with.
Mingthemerciless - Jun 10, 2021I think Zdarsky is over the target with his writing because he brings the emotion and street level setting but I'd love to see Jason give in to what may either be his true nature or how the Lazarus pit corrupted his mind and soul.
Mingthemerciless - Jun 10, 2021You nailed it fenix. A Jason not playing fair with Bats has really good storytelling potential.
SenpaifenixJäger - Jun 10, 2021Yes, Mingthemerciless it would be great a wild Jason, in another land if DC believes that it is better, I think Hood should be launched in a BlackLabel, his second origin is crude, the son of a violent father and an addicted mother there are many things there.
SenpaifenixJäger - Jun 10, 2021Lost days and Arkham Genesis (where I met the character) made me fall in love with his complexity, maybe it says a blasphemy for many but it is much more complex than Batman, with great potential among the grays but DC does not develop it, it has a good opportunity since with Batman and all the royalties that are in the character they constantly leave him unable to exploit it as they should.
SenpaifenixJäger - Jun 10, 2021Zdarsky has a great writing I don't question that, I love his DD and even this comic that I buy month after month I like it, it becomes overwhelming at times with emotions at stake and I love that. But there are many things in the air, why does Bruce call him a murderer? there is much bitterness between them without a precedent. Maybe I don't like holes, I like to get to the core of everything and in that part it he has failed to be perfect.
Mingthemerciless - Jun 10, 2021I know Merlyn has mentioned that Zdarsky doesn't do a lot of reading on a character. I remember Grant Morrison saying that DC doesn't provide archive material for writers and he relied on his own reading and collection. That might explain why Zdarsky isn't quite on canon. Regardless there's huge potential in Jason Todd for a great writer to develope. I think bringing back into the streets and crime of Gotham rather than meta human team ups works better for him.
SenpaifenixJäger - Jun 11, 2021I read in an interview in Italian that Chip focuses on father and son problems, and everything that pushes them away. It may be that he is not interested in this moment, more when DC is throwing continuity out the window and focused on the conflicts of both.
