Altogether, three very enjoyable stories. The Power Girl tale is the one that surprised me the most, and I havent quite decided where I stand on this new direction for her. There are so many other characters that would have come to mind for this role/connection to Lilith, but I do think perhaps the choice is meant to be unexpected and a little odd, so well see how it shakes out as time goes on. Action Comics #1051 kicks off a brand new story arc for Superman and his Super family while Metallo finally makes his move. The best part of this comic has to be the family dynamic and wholesome interactions with the Super family thanks to the writing and artwork. Having the opportunity to have most of the Super family together in a comic is exciting, but it's best not to get one's hopes up since it's only the first issue of a new arc. Going by how this issue ends, readers can definitely look forward to getting more action with Superman and the rest in the next issue. Read Full Review

Good anthology stories that build upon character relationships. I like seeing Kenan Kong and Connor Kent talk more, but I would like to see Jon Kent talk more to the original Superboy. That would be cool.

This first Dawn of DC title is a really good start. PKJ's run continues to be really engaging, even as the cast expands. The Jurgens story with young Jon manages to capture the spirit of the Rebirth era. The Leah Williams story with Powergirl was a bit too wordy, but the concept is actually pretty neat so far. Also, it's actually starting to get kind of obnoxious that people are still refusing to accept that Jon has been aged up and he will never be a ten year old again. I mean, never say never, but Jon being turned into a bisexual character basically secures his age up forever. DC simply won't revert his age, because of the questions and blowback it would get. At this point, the only people more obsessed with Jon's age after four years than these people are on sex offender registries. more

This book is good, but the still need to make Jon 10. Any one who think the twins will make up for the Jon mistake, think buying a kid a new puppy will make up for a dead dog. The short little Jon story was fun but short

Overall the issue gets a seven. The first story is ok. Nothing special. It’s just kinda silly talking with no real characterizations going on. It’s a lot like his current run on Aliens. Not fully thought thru. The art is horrible. Everyone looks the same. The second story is nice and ends on an interesting note. The third while not great was at least interesting from a plot perspective with some great visuals.

I've seen a lot better, but I've also seen a lot worse. I'm not keen on what I've seen so far of this Superman family thing. It's worthy of the Silver age, which I'm not too keen on either, at least as far as Superman went back then. I doubt it will last, but it's probably going to be here for a while. These twins are obviously just an excuse hoping to butter up fans of the younger Jon. The inept powers that be at DC seem to think replacing him will make up for aging him, and even more, that it will help people accept him as he now is and most of all, get the majority of fans off their backs. DC is teen hero-crazy. They'd sooner castrate themselves then eat their former manhood than give up even one of their precious teen heroes. They'd kil l any character who isn't age 13-19 without a second thought, sure. But they'll never give up a single teen character. Never. As for the commercialism that is Dawn of DC, it's an obvious attempt to mislead us into thinking things are about to get better and keep buying their already more than they're worth books. That Rebirth will be nothing compared to this, and how we're goona love it. Yeah, right. They're still going to keep hiring Marvel writers and tell us what we should want instead of hearing what we actually want. It's mostly just an excuse to release a bunch of new #1s and take the other stuff in new directions they think are cool and they'll keep using Marvel's tactics, all the while claiming they don't wish to. In short, nothing will be different than it has been. Just new #1s and "bold new directions" all while, like with Marvel, their books' main reason to exist will be to promote their movies and streaming programs. Basically just another "brilliant" move by DC's editors. It's worthy of DiDio himself. Well, enough of the stuff we all already knew. On to the review. The first story, as I said wasn't the worst I've seen, but by far not the best either. Kudos to its artist for restoring the old Lexcorp building. It reminds me of the old landscape of Metropolis. But the Irons' new building sticks out, big time. It looks like something out of the Brainiac 13 tech era from 20 years ago. Having a classic foe like Metallo back is also something good to see. And it looks like I was right in my prediction that Prison won't keep Luthor from causing trouble. We all know his lawyers will somehow get him out eventually, but in the mean time he's not letting stone walls or iron bars keep him from his evildoing. The general story is better than most of what I've seen by Johnson. I haven't been a fan of his work, and would shed no tears if he were to depart this book (Well, maybe if because Bendis was coming back). But he is better at down-to-Earth stories than the Science fictional stuff like he has done over the last couple of years. The second story is rather slow, but that's to be expected at the start of a new story. I think the Doombreaker thing should've been limited to the anniversary special, but maybe Jurgens can make it work out. Like the majority, I'm glad to see Jon as we prefer. The return to the farm is also a nice touch. I'm hoping in time to see the return of his friend Kathy. She was a very likable interesting character (Especially when she kicked Damian's ass). And though I'm as glad as the rest to see a return of sorts to better times, I'd advise others not to get their hopes up. Even if this causes a sales boost and 100.000% of everyone who buys an issue publicly states that this story is why they did it still won't be enough to change DC's minds. As for the third story, I didn't even bother. It's just filler material to keep the book at $5. Plus I'm just not interested. All in all this book wasn't a must-read, but it wasn't a total waste either. It's the start of a new direction I'm not very impressed by, but it's better than anything I've seen in the Superman books in the last 4 years. But then that's not saying much ether. I won't recommend against getting it, but I can't recommend it to non-regular readers either. It's my first experience with Dawn of Dc, and so far I'm not impressed. If they expect reactions to it to be of a Rebirth proportion I have a feeling they'll be sorely disappointed. Because when comparing the quality of this to Rebirth, It's only tepid. Lukewarm at best. I only just returned to Superman and still haven't seen enough to make up my mind whether I want to stay or not. Time will tell. But I can only give this start up issue an average review. more

So Metropolis needs Seven versions of Superman, now? Tnew can't patrol the reat of the worlvd? they can get anywhere in 10 minutes. its boring, frankly. also in Lois' telling , the great winds Supes causes when he's fling at super- speed saves lives. I posit that it also causes commuters to fall onto the tracks, cause traffic accidents, etc.How about that?

Jurgens story was good the rest was absolute garbage. How about telling 1 good story for the whole issue instead of force feeding readers 1 good story and 2 bad ones? Get it together DC.

So going back to Action Comics, kind of a weird start here or me but not bad. I would say if anything Metallo saved my interest and kept me reading on. The book says it is good for new readers and this is somewhat true, however where this fails is the comic does not really introduce the new characters or who is who. It took me a bit to figure out who Iron's daughter was, which character was Superboy or Superman's son Jon (which btw what do we call his son, Superson?!) And we have these two kids that Superman adopted who are "refugees" from war world. One thing I notice in modern media and comics you see the word refugees thrown around a lot I wonder why... Besides that boring modern day political trite, you also have the other re-used polit ical modern day trite of a movement of people who "hate aliens". Fake and g*y. In this comic they call these people the "Blue Earthers", and the Blue Earthers are protesting Super aliens from taking over the world and hate Superman and ilk. This is one theme I wish to be eradicated for a while in comics, who the f*ck wants to see protesting in our comics, too much of this in comic movies too. Like yes people protest but honestly is it the majority of people? I've only been to one and found it to be a complete waste of time and I think most people do also, so this brings the question here who are the writers appeasing to with this repeated nonsense? Anyway the story shows more of the Super family, for me I know who Supergirl is, Superboy, Jon, but didn't know who Kenan was, and I didn't realize the metal girl was Steel's daughter. At first when I saw her in her metal form I was like who is this robot chick? And Kenan is literally called the "Superman of China". Like I said I was out of the loop of comics for a while and found this too be the goofiest thing I've ever heard of. I mean you same writers who removed the classic "Truth, Justice and the American way" for your "there is no Nation or borders bull", you let the Chinese Superman keep his nation's name? Double standard much?! Besides that however it is goofy because you never call our boy Supes, "Superman of America". I don't care if you have a superpowered Chinese guy, but you could have come up with a better name, and the Yin-yang design as his logo? Man you guys are fu**king shallow, I guess you think everyone in China is some kind of Xiolin Showdown cartoon character? So in the story you got this building by Steelworks being erected and Lex Luthor sends Metallo to blow it up during the celebration. The Super family was there as guards I guess, and I won't lie when you go to the panel where the Super family is flying over the protestors during the celebration, the Super family looks ominous, they look like villains lording over the peasant humans. It's not just because of the angle the artist chose, but I think the design choices and color of their costumes does the Super family a disservice. I mean Superboy, Jon and Kenan are mostly covered in black and red secondary. Kara is mostly red, black and jut has blue pants. The new twins have blue on one's chest and the other on the arms, but the rest is red and black. Why is are they wearing jet black colors at all, this doesn't give me good guy vibes, this is more like I don;t know The Boys or some kind of Garth Ennis wet dream. So not a great start but the only hook was Metallo showing up at the end ready to fight Superman,and thank god Superman still looks like Superman. more
