Action Comics #1052 continues the new direction for the series and Superman family and continues to do an excellent job of balancing things. There's the action and long story but it also focuses in on what makes the Man of Steel and the characters around him great. Action Comics #1052 brings Superman and his Super-Family face-to-face with a refurbished Metallo. For like a hot minute, and then the rest of the comic slows down from there. Unfortunately, the comic decides to put focus on the Blue Earth movement that was created for this story arc and it's the most uninteresting part of it so far. The comic recaptures any sense of suspense and intrigue whenever it shifts focus back to Metallo. Thankfully, the ending of the main story shows that there's more action incoming in the next issue. The lead story and one of the back-ups is doing some really fun things with the Superman family. The threat is interesting, the interpersonal dynamics are great, and the art is fantastic. That flashback back-up is just plain boring though and drags the rest of the book down a little. Read Full Review

The way the three stories we get in Action Comics #1052 come together to form one comic book simply dull. It's a shame because an anthology series spotlighting the Superman Family has unlimited potential. Action Comics #1052 simply strikes out on tapping into that potential. Read Full Review

For me, it is another in a line of weird character takes on her. Ones that seem out of character but done to push forward a story.  I know, this was a long review of a back-up story. So far things seem to be picking up in the 2 stories that matter. I'm not even bothering with the third, as I'm sure many of the rest of us aren't either. The first story was pretty good for Johnson. I'm still not too keen on this Super family, but it's just one of those flimsy concepts that will run its course in time. Otherwise it's pretty solid. I can't tell if someone ids framing Luthor or if he's playing brain checkers with everyone. If someone is I'd like to know who. Metallo's also stepping up his plan of attack. That should be promising. The second story is slowly developing. It should be even more interesting next issue. One question though. Why is Superman back in the black suit suddenly? Oh, well.... While it's been through m uch better times, the Super books have also been through much worse. But for a mediocre period in their long history it's worth checking out. Yes, like many of you I'm still P.O.ed at the STUPID aging of Jon, but the books are still decent enough to finally get rid of most of that vomity taste Bendis' run left in our mouthes. For the first time since before he completely ruined the books 5 years ago I'm actually looking forward to the next issue of Action. more

The story I. The first one is shaping up nicely but man I can’t stand the art. Everyone has red noses or looks like they were punched in the face. The second story was interesting and really hooked me to want to read more. The third was just whatever. Just to Meta for my tastes.

First, the art is 100 times better than last ish here. There's this subtle grit and heavy pounding violence that seeps through he panels and I love that. We start right away with Superman and Metallo beating he sh*t out of each other, and Sups freezes and sends Metallo out to space to get a breather. After that we get some boring stuff about the refugees living with the Super family and they do "cute" things ad are suppose to be funny for you to like them. They're okay nothing to write home about. Metallo floats in space and is talkingto his sister Tracy who is in trouble and is telling him to save her. Clearly this is not Tracy and some other villain controlling Metallo. This is foreshadowed obvously when Clark as talking about the War wor ld refugees use of the word "unmade", and that Metallo's body looked like the "unmade" they encountered in war world. The unmade are warriors who die, brought back to life with new parts to fight again and so on, D & D necromancy stuff. Metallo kidnaps some Blue Earther protestors and turns them into robots to help him fight the SUperfamily. Nothing special here, kind of going with the motion. more
