The Iron Man story was average as is really was there to introduce Ultimo. The Cap story was fantastic as he longed for a lost love from WW2 that had lots of great action and heart. One of Caps best.
Tales of Suspense #77
The Mandarin and his prisoner Tony Stark converse in his castle about the Mandarin's construction of the giant android called Ultimo.
Entertaining as many plots advance and political turmoil is ahead for Aquaman but something seems just this side of off to make the issue really stand out. It's like the pacing of a movie but here the issue just doesn't gel completely. The art is fantastic and I'm liking the run so far.
Aquaman #19
The Ice King takes the throne as the true king of Atlantisbut who will be the first to kneel before him?
Really liked the plot and pace of this one. Batman and June had good chemistry in their adventure and Ultvac was pretty cool and how it ties to Darksied. Fun stuff.
Challengers of the Unknown #2
THE CHALLENGERS FACE A DEEP SEA MYSTERY! The odyssey of the Challengers continues on the Watchtower and beyond! Bracing under the strict oversight of Mister Terrific in their investigation into the Godshock and still reeling from something Unknown rattling them all internally, it's June's turn to be shaken to the core when a strange rupture in the ...
Lots of action that didn't feel cohesive or coherent. The panels look nice but it's all to loosy goosy. It's kinda gone off the rails in a big way. It can be reigned in but it needs to happen fast.
Dark Knights of Steel #9
The bestselling series continues! The opening battle for the Three Kingdoms takes a deadly and dramatic turn as heroes return...enemies are revealed...and dark secrets spill out like blood on the battlefield!
Pretty average stuff that drives plot points but nothing more. I like the art and the fight with Talia is well done. The art in the second story sucks but the story is pretty good.
Detective Comics #1064
It's a tango to the death as Batman dances with an old flame while trying not to catch on fire. Using the new information about "black noise," Batman investigates the music box in his possession some more, which leads him to question whether music is actually able to contain physics-altering properties. Later, this theory is tested with Two-Face.
Excellent story of Cassandra's pain with dealing with her mother Lady Shiva. It was an excellent ending of one to continue on in another arc. To see Shiva show love to Cassandra comes well in this as the last have set it up. It doesn't feel rushed but very well earned. The art is great as is the action.
Batgirl #6
CASS CAIN AT A CROSSROAD! The truth behind the Unburied finally comes to light as Kalden reveals a hidden history of betrayal and vengeance. But as the sins of the past threaten to consume the present, Batgirl and Lady Shiva must first survive a dangerous cave and...each other! With nowhere else to run, it's the end of the line for Cassandra Cain. ...
Love the art. Story was rushed. It ends nicely but seems almost too fast to take out the big bad. Overall good fast read.
Justice Society of America #11
As Huntress pushes to recruit the Harlequin's Son, the Legionnaire enacts his plans against the JSA! What does this mean for the future of the world's first superteam?!
The Sub Mariner story is standard action affair with Karang plotting to overthrow Atlantis. Nice action but I'm just not a Sub guy. I find him rather boring. The Hulk story is fun and loaded with great action and mayhem. Too bad it's the underground world again. Still fun stuff but rather repetitive for Hulk. Still an enjoyable read.
Tales to Astonish #80
The Incredible Hulk is sent to a brand new dimension....home to Tyranus!
Entertaining but quite hokey adventure that has so many Dues Ex moments it's almost so bad it's good laughter. Not a really good plot but at least I can't say it's boring.
Justice League of America #3
Kanjar Ro captures the Justice League! After trapping Superman in Kryptonite gas, Kanjar Ro forces the Justice League to help him defeat his enemies. Will the Justice League be able to free themselves in time to save Superman?
This does what it says even if it doesn't really make sense for the hero's to be this dumb but whatever, for this to work I guess you have to throw the baby out with the bathwater so we can Game of Thrones things. The actions kinda cool but most of the killing is done with one panel and off screen so you get a jump scare but nothing much else. The art is really good. I'll finish it just to finish more
Predator Kills The Marvel Universe #2
ALL-OUT MAYHEM! After several battles in our solar system - which devastated both the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Fantastic Four - the Predators escalate to the next stage of their war. Their target: Earth. And the X-Men and the Avengers are at the top of their kill list! Prepare for an extinction-level event!
Lots of nice art. Super fast read. If it lasted 5 minutes color me shocked. Just a few panels of talking with a dream Steph to snap Batgirl out of sleep toxin. Overall just ho hum.
Batgirl #5
CASS COMES FACE TO FACE WITH HER OWN PAST! As Batgirl continues to unravel the complicated relationship with her mother, she finds herself alone in the dark den of her enemies. Plunged into poppy-induced hallucinations, Batgirl relives her past alongside a surprise visit from a Bat-Family member, who helps Cass confront the tangled roots of her ori...
Fun little jaunt down Scrooge memory lane. The pace is tight and the art excellent. Being in Scrooges mind allows the timeline to be all over the place but still the story makes sense. Hopefully 3 moves on from it though.
Uncle Scrooge: Earth's Mightiest Duck #2
Earth has been overrun by evil aliens, but from the ashes, a rebellion rises. A ragtag band of freedom fighters whose fearsome howl strikes fear in the hearts of their overlords. The war cry of the Woodchuck. Meanwhile, Scrooge McDuck fights to preserve his own mind and memories, a battle that sees him revisiting the greatest adventures of his life...
Avg issue with very good art work. The fight is well drawn but the reason DD and Spidey fight is rather dumb. The main villain is c level stuff. Not a boring issue but the plot is rather weak.
Daredevil #16
Spider-Man duped into attacking Daredevil! After the Masked Marauder has his goons dress up in Daredevil costumes, New York's wall-crawler falls for a switch n' bait against Matt Murdock! Will Daredevil be able to prove his innocence to a fellow hero?
Just lots of gobbly gook here. It sounds smart but means nothing. Sorry but just not digging this arc one bit. Hope to get through it and hope things get better. Just drop the pretentiousness and get back to how humans talk.
Flash #11
As Barry, Max, Mr. Terrific, and Pilgrim head into the Speed Force to uncover what's really causing all the chaos around the world, Wally returns home but is under the same mind control that seized Barry. Meanwhile, Linda finally meets the Resident, the being Wally turned to while trapped in the Gallery!
Interesting tale of Superman taking on The Thinker by taking a vacation. It's really just a ploy and it's a nice way of getting Clark to hide he's Superman and beat the bad guy. The downside even though the comic acts as though The Thinker is tough and smart he's anything but so it loses steam for being just a bland mob guy.
Action Comics #70
Fun read if you check your brain at the door to literally throw out the power base of the Predators to fight super hero's. Lots of truck size plot holes to get hero's killed and the Preds coming off being beyond Galactus levels of dangerous. If you can stomach the absurd nature of the premise then it's fast and fun for a what if style comic. I'll continue with the series but overall it's like a it more
Predator Kills The Marvel Universe #1
A PREDATOR KING. A VIBRANIUM ARSENAL. AN ALL-OUT INVASION! It's the bloody kickoff to an epic battle between the Predators and Marvel's heroes! A Predator King, emboldened by a new vibranium arsenal and aided by a surprising human ally, launches an all-out invasion of Earth, claiming the planet as a hunting preserve! You'll need to read to see just...
Nice start to a sci fi/Matrix like adventure with Scrooge Mcduck. What seemed a little jumbled at first pays off with a great last panel that changes everything for the better. Great cliffhanger and story setup.
Uncle Scrooge: Earth's Mightiest Duck #1
The planet has been conquered by alien invaders, the CONNOISSEURS, nefarious hoarders of the rarest antiquities from throughout the cosmos. As they tear the Earth apart, pillaging its fabled treasures, only the world's greatest adventurer can possibly stop them. But SCROOGE McDUCK is facing a battle unlike any he's ever fought, trapped inside his o...
Nice history that is very coherent and cohesive even if it does combine some of the history but overall a great book to read and look at.
New History of the DC Universe #2
The DC Universe as we know it begins to take shape as a mysterious ship crash-lands in Smallville, and years later, Superman makes his debut. Meanwhile, inGotham City, Batman emerges from the shadows to clean its crime-ridden streets, and after years of isolation from Man's World, Wonder Woman leaves the paradiseof Themyscira for modern society. A n...
Fun comic with Supes in the west. Nice showdown with Terra and an interesting origin for Moonlight. Also nice ending to setup the next couple stories.
Superman #10
HOWDY, PARDNERS! Welcome to the Wild West of Metropolis, where the Man of Tomorrow meets the Man from Yesterday! Clark Kent is on a rootin'-tootin' rodeo adventure alongside the ghostly Marilyn Moonlight as they get to the bottom of why she haunts the night! Get your posse and join us for a hoedown like you've never seen before. Yee-haw!
Nice orgin story for Werewolf by Night. It can come off a little heavy handed at times but the art is glorious in the most 70's Marvel way. Lots of action and great panels that really drive the drama in the best B-movie way possible.
Marvel Spotlight #2
Jack has dreams at night about him being a werewolf...soon he will find out they're real.
