Zdarsky captures what it looks like when a few corrupt individuals hold all of the power"and what it looks like when that same power is given back to the people.

Dan Abnett's writing captures the fully embodied emotions of Cruz. We feel her despair and sorrow"and yet, a glimmer of hope shines through.

Morrison brilliantly demonstrates the tensions that inevitably arise between the new generation and the old guard, the restless and the unmovable.

Otto Schmidt's artwork for this series's second issue is unique in its pleasing simplicity. The fluidity of the characters' designs pairs well with varying purple shades, reminding us that this is undoubtedly a Hawkeye-focused story.

Writer Kat Howard portrays Tim's existential crisis well. Using the tools of magic and fantasy, she illustrates a search for identity in a relatable way. Readers can resonate with doubts about their true "goodness" and questions of who they really want to be in this life.

Patric Reynolds's artwork for this issue completes the masterpiece that is this issue. Combined with the coloring talents of Lee Loughridge, this book magically blends the realistic depictions of Inauguration Day in Washington D.C. with the cartoony Big Head.

Writer Kat Howard portrays Tim and his future counterpart beautifully in this issue. Each has their own distinct personality, yet retain the qualities that make readers enjoy the character.

Writer Chip Zdarsky has been pushing Matt through a gut-wrenching personal transformation for the entirety of his run, and this issue is the perfect example.

Each character in this story wrestles with their emotions in a way that makes one often forget they're reading a comic book. And the conclusion is sure to leave readers on the edge of their seats.

Writer Skottie Young highlights the horrors of our own reality through the fictional lives of Abel, Bobby, and the rest of the children held against their will on Raider's farm. In them we see children with their own desires, fears, and ways of dealing with a system that effectively strips them of their humanity.

BATTLEPUG #4 brings all our favorite characters together in an epic event that's sure to set the tone for issues to come. Readers are ready to learn more about this new dimension, and the creative team is ready to reveal it.

This issue is the perfect set up story for the Marvel 2099 event. Telling a new story of a beloved character while keeping it in continuity with comic canon appears is a daunting task, but SPIDER-MAN 2099 #1 seems like it's perfectly suited for the task.

GREEN LANTERN: BLACKSTARS #2, being a part of a 3-part miniseries, speeds things along at a quick past, but it does so without leaving readers behind. The story is easy enough to follow and keeps us engaged with the main plot points.

Todd McFarlane's script flows smoothly from page to page, acting as a third-person omniscient narrator to hep reader's share in Simmons' experience.

Writer brilliantly Jeff Lemire retells the story of Jonah through the medium of Telsa and her predicament. Much like the biblical figure, Telsa finds herself in the belly of an aquatic creature after refusing to partake in the destiny laid out before her.

Writers Kat Howard and Simon Spurrier structure this story to reflect both Constantine and Tim's perspective. This gives readers a fuller understanding of each character's motivations and perspectives in the midst of shared experiences.

I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE MASK #2, available in comic book stores on Wednesday, November 20th, gets more political than ever, with a touch of blood.

AQUAMAN #54 is the perfect story for DC Comics' Year of the Villain event, giving readers a reason to sympathize with one of its most deadly criminals. We're anxious to learn more about Hyde's troubled psyche in the coming issues.

Norton's ability to craft illustrations that are fantastical distortions of the real world gives readers the impression that this world could theoretically exist in a parallel universe alongside our own.

RONIN ISLAND #8 wears its heart on its sleeve, giving us a microscopic view into the souls of our favorite characters. If readers didn't know what Hana and all of her relationships stood for, they definitely do now.

It's refreshing to see a story with a woman taking the reigns in and of herself without a "strong man" leading the way. In fact, our strong man (Hal) in this scenario sits back and enjoys watching her taking the lead.

On top of these new abilities, readers witness Simmons embrace aspects of who he was before his death. Rather than relying solely on Hellspawn powers for the crime-fighting throughout this issue, he's found the confidence to rely more and more on his military training to do the job. No suit? No problem.

CONTAGION #5 IS a charming blend of psychedelic bliss and disturbing horror. Moon Knight's journey through the Urchin's mind is reminiscent of a Magic School Bus trip within someone's body.

The story shows existential doubt within god-like characters, allowing writer Jeff Loveness to establish a relatability that connects with readers and makes it easy for them to empathize with an even more humanized character: Lois.

BOOKS OF MAGIC #13, available in stores Wednesday, October 23rd, brings the focus back to one of the main themes within this series: relationships. Writer Kat Howard hones in on Timothy Hunter and Ellie, separately, as they try to fix the damage the world of magic has wrought upon their personal lives.

In an unexpected twist of fate, Young brings Abel closer and closer to the realization that the only thing that can cure his rage is the thing he's been running away from: his friends and family.

AQUAMAN #53 hits home with relevant themes of regret and loss. It also sets up a number of threats that will put our heroes to the test. We can't wait for the next issue!

THE MASK: I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE MASK #1 is a promising political satire unlike we've ever seen. Marrying the already complex character of The Mask to our often zany and cruel politics will speak to politically aware readers on multiple levels.

The zany adventure continues as our warrior hero and his trusted steed take on an army of elves. But the hilarity leaves plenty of room for heartfelt moments.

Writer Greg Pak has been slowly unveiling the differences in Hana and Kenichi's ideologies"features stemming from their past experiences"over the course of this series, and they're highlighted more than ever before in RONIN ISLAND #7.

Writer B. Dave Walters gives readers an authentic look at relationship between revenge and regret in Helene's actions throughout the story.

With this being the last issue of Grant Morrison's current run in the series, it makes sense that he and his team would spend time a large portion of the story tying up loose ends. Some authors do this in rushed or forceful way, but Morrison ties them up like a bow.

Kat Howard has been slowly revealing Tim's descent into harsher behavior throughout this series, and his actions taken in BOOKS OF MAGIC #12 is the culmination of that work.

Writer Ta-Nehisi Coates offers a brilliant critique of traditionalism an all too common trait found among many in our country today.

AQUAMAN #52 is one of the most action-packed books in this current run. It's also a coming-of-age story for Jackson as he learns an indispensable lesson many heroes struggle with: the good guys don't always win.

MIDDLEWEST #11 is a dramatic story highlighting the painful realities in one's relationships"with family, friendships, and even with oneself.

Chip Zdarsky's writing in this issue captures the heart of Daredevil, highlighting one of his more interesting traits: his willingness to continually question his morality and motives.

RONIN ISLAND #6 is a philosophical look at what makes a group worth fighting for. Readers will see how Hana, who represents all of us, discerns the difference between an unaccepting, morally depraved empire and her own country that acts the same way while professing to adhere to higher values.

Grant Morrison's writing raises readers' anticipation to new levels in this issue. Watching Hal maneuver his way through an army of his fellow officers, while knowing an unimaginable threat grows closer, allows us to share in the Lantern's desperation.

Norton doesn't pull any punches in this story; the entertaining allusions to our current political climate are right in your face.

BOOKS OF MAGIC #11 takes a deep look a the toll Timothy's magic adventures have taken in his family life. It's also a story full of reunions, though some are more happy than others.

ASCENDER #5 is a fitting conclusion to the "The Haunted Galaxy" arc in this series. With such tumultuous events leaving our protagonists in dire straits, it's anyone's guess at how they will avoid Mother's grasp.

DeConnick brilliantly brings back a fan favorite character while speaking to the real world issues of prejudice and self-identity.

Mike Mignola and Scott Allie's writing evokes feelings of intrigue, fear, and betrayal-all of which are the qualities that make up the quintessential Hellboy story.

A wonderful tale of friendship, loyalty, and determination. The Vox Machina team's pursuit of their wayward friend Grog is nothing short of inspiring.

A story of returning, showing the incredible relationships between mothers and daughters.

THE GREEN LANTERN #10 amasses a multiversal team of the best the Green Lantern Corps. have to offer. The anticipation for the coming battle is unbearable!

An intriguing look into the main characters' motives. We begin to learn why they're loyal to their respective parties.

A lighthearted story exploring the relationships within Hal Jordan's family. His interactions with Hal Jr. plays with the idea of giving the Green Lantern a sidekick.

ICE CREAM MAN #13 reaches a new level of creative brilliance through the use of the palindrome. We also unearth an intriguing connection between this and all of the previous issues.

A fast-paced issue detailing Mila and Andy's escape from their home. We also see more of the viciousness Mother is capable of.

A detailed look at the consequences magic bestows upon Timothy "normal" life in London. Readers can relate to his desparate attempts to balance his destiny with the relationships in his life.

AQUAMAN #50 integrates the previous storyline seamlessly into this new direction. Arthur Curry returned to the world from the brink of death, but it's clear he's arrived with a new perspective.

A brilliant humanization of one of the stories main antagonists. One actually feels sympathy for the character who's been trying to destroy Bruce Banner.

SUPERMAN #13 takes us into Jor-El's past and gives great context into the patriarch's current jadedness.

A fantastic retelling of the Vox Machina campaign from the popular Critical Role web series. The characters come to life through dynamic encounters with the mysterious creatures of their world.

An intriguing departure from recent trends in the Green Lantern mythos that remains true to the core of Hal's character.

This is a phenomenal new series bringing much needed light to the DC Universe's best investigative journalist.

A trip to the past finally reveals the important details of Ellie's disappearance. The parallels between Andy and Mila's past and present make this a great story to read.

A much-needed look into the character of Ellie, showing how her inner power is on par with the more famous Timothy Hunter.

AQUAMAN #49 delivers on the answers the series promised readers many issues ago. But this reveal was well-worth the wait. We're excited to see what Arthur does with his newly restored memories.
