Great captain america issue

I was surprised how good this was and glad I spent my time reading it. Doom vs. Cap ? Never saw that coming. And surprisingly Cap quoting the "I can do this all day" MCU trope was not as annoying or cringe-worthy as it should have been because of the context of the story. This issue was built around the inadequacy that Cap feels behind the mask and behind all the power that he wields, and I believe someone who has never heard of Captain America could pick up this issue and understand who he is and what he represents without getting to deep in the mythology. Wolverine's appearance at the end has me hoping AvX doesn't get a sequel like Civil War did, and overall looking forward to who his opponent will be in this tournament as well as the r more

This arc starts like last arc by just throwing us into the action, and unlike the last arc, it works better here. Because there isn't really anything that needs to setting up. I'm not excited for this arc, even still, but there is some hope here. The Age of Khonshu tried to do so much and it was really poorly handled. This is a seemingly simple tournament arc that has all the set up it needs done and out of the way. The Doom/Cap fight is fun, with some allusions to their Secret Wars fight in there as well. This is a fun issue, I'll admit. But it's like... This series just spent the last half of the year hitting me, I'm not just going to forget that. So, I'm not going to get my hopes up.

Good issue by itself away from the previous mess of 39 issues but Aaron is doing it again where he lays it all out and makes you hope for the best but if the last few years are any indication, this will be another disappointment. The main reasons this gets any respect from me is the CAP monologue along with the best art Garron has done in years.

Today in the Aaronvengers AU: It's Contest of Champions, Firechicken Edition! Check your brain at the door, put up your feet, accept your complimentary bag o' popcorn, and root for your favorites! It's a shame to waste Javier Garrón (who is NOT just phoning it in here, this looks gorgeous) on this carnival sideshow. Also, attention Marvel: I am full up on Steve Rogers saying "I can do this all day" in comics, thanks. I could go 12 months, at least, without reading that again. It's not cute, it's not clever, it's not subtle. It's not ripe for deconstruction or irony or repurposing. Just (literally!) give it a rest for a little while.

I've given up...Cap never gets ready for a showdown by warming up his knuckles...Read his past appearances in comics, read past issues of the Avengers! This title NEEDS a change of writer...I like Jason, his Thor work was good, his God Butcher arc was fantastic, but he's had over 40 issues of The Avengers and I can't think of a single issue I would call a 'classic'! Imagine writers in the past doing that. I can name 'classics' for Lee, Thomas, Conway, Englehart, Stern, Hickman but still no issue I would read twice in Aaron's run. Sorry to be so negative.
