I wonder how long you've been a fan of Hal Jordan then? Myrwhydden first appeared in the Silver Age Hal Jordan series, around Green Lantern #24. The story was called "The World Within The Power Ring!" and it's shown up numerous times over the yeas. I'm dating myself, but I remember my dad getting me this comic. I had a whole run at one point...

May 01, 2019I don't know if we'll ever see these characters again, but I do know that in only one issue, Morrison and Sharp introduced us to one of the most fascinating new worlds in some time. We need more comics with this level of creativity. Read Full Review

May 01, 2019This is one of those issues that is better on the second reading. All of Morrison and Sharp's indications of the truth are clearer with the knowledge that Pengowirr is the sentience of Hal's ring. This opens up a completely new manner of depicting Green Lanterns and their rings. It fundamentally changes the way Lanterns interact with their rings, and goes a long way in explaining how Hal is able to constantly put his life with the Corps ahead of his relationships on Earth. Is Hal more committed to Pengowirr than anyone else? Does this explain his actions? Or, is it all how Hal imagines his ring as he faced a near death experience".? Read Full Review

The Fandom Post - Chris Beveridge
May 13, 2020The Green Lantern has been a strong book since it got underway and has given us a more "mature" version of Hal and the Corps itself that we've long needed to explore, especially with more of the weird and engaging elements of science fiction about it. This issue is a much smaller and more personal one but it resonates all the more for its storybook-like design and the way it was able to really make me care about all that's involved with what is Emerald Sands and what it represents. Morrison is firing on all cylinders here while Sharp is turning in some of the best material of his career, leaving me excited to see what else is next. Read Full Review

May 04, 2019I can't say much about this issue, because most of it works best when you actually read it. It's a great little fantasy mood piece, something that gives off a wondrous sensation and feels very mystical. From the writing, to the art, to even the panel arrangement, this comic is just really damn cool to read and I give this book a high recommendation. Read Full Review

Black Nerd Problems - Oz Longworth
May 01, 2019Morrison's run is the perfect venue to tap into such nostalgic schlock, and this issue does exactly that while piling on yet another layer to Hal's relationship with his power ring. I also appreciate the narrative being told from a third person storybook POV. Morrison has such an easily malleable voice through which to tell his story. Liam Sharp wasn't given a lot to work with location-wise, but he still certainly made it work, art-wise. The desolation and waning light of the Emerald Sands was well conveyed as were some really awesome looking monsters awaiting our hero. Read Full Review

May 01, 2019The Green Lantern #7 is, at the end of the day, a successful experiment. It perfects the combination of prose and comics storytelling and makes the two feel like partners. It does what Morrison does best, and re-contextualizes what you knew about a character that you have known for years. If you like comics that play with the form, you're not likely to find a better example from Marvel and DC than you are with this issue. Read Full Review

This seemed like a bit of a filler issue, but honestly, it was so well-written that I don't even care! If anything, it established a deeper relationship between the ring and Hal that goes deeper than what we've ever seen before. On top of that, the art by Liam Sharpe is always a win to see! I LOVED this issue. Probably my favorite of this entire run!

I was super into this despite initially being wary of the amount of prose it had. But it ended up being one of my favorite issues, if not my favorite.

I have read numerous entire runs of Green Lantern and they are my favourite comics in all of comics, so I do not say this lightly... this is one of my favourite issues ever in GL history.

THE GOOD: -This was phenomenal. Just absolutely phenomenal. I really have nothing else to say. -The writing here is super-impressive. Whenever Grant Morrison incorporates prose into his stories, it always turns out fantastic. This may be the best example though. -The art is just amazing. The layouts were great and the world is incredibly immersive. -This was honestly the best issue of this series, and one of the best issues I have read in recent memory. -I love the attention to detail. Every panel has something amazing to show off. -The twist here was absolutely mind-blowing. Not only the idea, but the execution. The subtle foreshadowing through the paneling. Everything. -Myrwhidden was a great character, especiall more

Prelude: We are back in "Emerald Sands". After Morrison's mid-season finale "Under Strange Skies", let's see how Hal is holding up with Myrwhydden. The Good: Wow, this is very unique. I love this narration. That is a wonderful cover. Liam Sharp's art is great like always and how his layouts work with Morrison's narration is great. It's a concept we've seen time and time again but Morrison elevates it to a whole new level. The relationship between Hal and his ring is the highlight of this issue. Love it. The Bad: Nothing. Conclusion: An absolutely wonderful tale about Hal and his ring. It's stylistic, reads great and it just works. Great work from Morrison and Sharp.

I haven't read every issue of Hal Jordan's adventures through space and time, but I would wager that this is one of the single greatest entries in the publishing history of DC's GL lines. Morrison proves his genius and creates a story of pure poetry in a profound and relative narrative with Liam Sharp's transcendent lines and ethereal colors.

When you get the feeling that Neil Gaiman took over the writing for an issue, it's usually a good sign that the issue will kick fantastical ass.

This is an actual comic book from one of the Big 2, published in 2019. This just doesn't happen these days. But here we go, there it is. Morrison and Sharp are creating a modern classic, and on each issue they just keep improving. Incredible.

This was a great issue but it's losing some points for the text layout, which was sometimes annoying.

I agree with most of the comicbookroundup reviewers pros about the prose. The art styling was appropriate for this tale, too.

I do not understand how this book is getting such high reviews. I'm so sick of Grant Morrison on Green Lantern. Hal goes into his ring and the AI is a fairy living in some sort of fantasy world? What the hell? I hated every second of this issue and it bothers me because I love Hal Jordan. He's my favorite Green Lantern and I really want to like his stories but these are terrible.
