You can tell by Future State that DC wanted to go all the way with it and replace Bruce with Tim Fox. The fans didn't like it and DC compromised by moving him to NY (still think it's weird having a Batman in NY but whatever). If you look at the JL lineup and the Dark Crisis lineup you could see other changes, too. I could give you the All New, All Different Marvel example. It's the same here for me.
