But Why Tho? - William Tucker

    Sep 11, 2024

As a first issue, this fight in the forest shows that the creators know the essential pillars of what makes a great Wolverine comic: the violence and the contrast between his animalist and human sides. But by the end of Wolverine #1 (2024), elements are brought to the surface, suggesting this story will go somewhere new and unfamiliar. Read Full Review

Super Hero Hype - Matt Morrison

Longtime fans of Logan will love this new volume. However, those who dismiss the Wolverine comics as simple hack-and-slash fests will be surprised by the depth of this story. This is one series to keep an eye on, for like Logan himself, it seems likely to surprise us all. Read Full Review

    AIPT - David Brooke

The art is stunning in the return of Wolverine to comic shops, while Ahmed clearly has a great handle on each character. The plot is thin, but the mystery is potentially huge for the future of this character. Read Full Review

    Graphic Policy - Brett

    Sep 11, 2024

Wolverine #1 is a nice start that takes things back to basics and gets Wolverine away from the crazier aspects of his life. It teases and dances around his past and delivers some anguish over his present life. It tip toes closer to the grumpy and gruff Wolverine who is filled with hurt and anguish. It's a Wolverine we haven't seen in some time. Read Full Review

Weird Science Marvel Comics - mrgabehernandez

    Sep 11, 2024

Wolverine #1 gives you everything you want and expect in a Wolverine comic brutal fights, hard-hitting drama, lethal consequences, and a decent setup for a new threat. Further, Martn Cccolo's art is some of the best of any X-title right now. That said, the script relies too heavily on multiple coincidences to make the final fight happen, so Saladin Ahmed's strong moments are hindered by a lazy plot. Read Full Review

Comic Book Revolution - Kevin Lainez

    Sep 13, 2024

Wolverine #1 establishes that Saladin Ahmed understands how to write Wolverine. For first issue that builds confidence in knowing the writer understands the character, especially if Nightcrawler is a permanent supporting cast member. Though the story itself does need work. Read Full Review

Wolverine 101, class is in session - but not in a good way. Bereft of original ideas or anything unique to say,Wolverine #1 is the first From the Ashes book to truly miss the mark, at least as far as the story is concerned. Hopefully it moves in a different direction with a quickness, or Ahmed's run will be dead in the water before it even truly gets going anywhere. Read Full Review

Plot Wolverine has been living for months as part of a wolf pack, like an animal, hunting and free, but his enemies do not forgive him for being alive. Cyber "‹"‹chases him and wipes out his pack in revenge. On the other hand, Nightcrawler asks Logan to return as Wolverine, because mutants are at their worst and Cyber "‹"‹injures Nightcrawler. Wolverine and Cyber "‹"‹have a fierce battle, which leaves Cyber "‹"‹injured who arrives at a cave to be possessed by a being who wants to eliminate adamantium from the world, starting with Cyber's skin. The return of Cyber "‹"‹is great, this enemy was key in the 1990s, cruel and lethal, full of resentment against Logan. Powerful new series that narrates that time after the fall of Krakoa more

Great kick off issue. Starting out with the ol' "Logan goes feral for a bit" trope and bringing in Cyber to disrupt that was a good choice, he's an underused villain these days. Nightcrawler coming to convince Logan to come back makes sense, and I'm always down for including Nightcrawler in any story. It left me very curious about where it goes from here. Loved it.

Good stuff here, although I'm wondering where this fits on the timeline of the From the Ashes relaunch, considering we've already seen Wolverine teaming with Nightcrawler and more over in Gail Simone's current Uncanny X-Men series. Aside from that, this was solid. I was disappointed to see Cóccolo was leaving Immortal Thor, but that just means we get nice Wolverine art, which we did, in fact, get here. I did think his suit looked a little off on certain pages, but I liked what we got overall. The story here wasn't anything groundbreaking, but I did find it to be fairly well-written.
