Comics: The Gathering - Nick Devonald

    Jan 29, 2020

Donny Cates continues to be paired with some of Marvels hottest artists which make for some of the best comics in the industry. If these first two issues are anything to go by fans of Thor, and Marvel in general, are in for a real good time going forward. Twists and turns to keep the reader guessing, possibly the most dangerous threat the Marvel universe has faced, and Thor in a new role promise some exciting storytelling going forward. Nic Klein’s art has to be seen to be believed. Read Full Review

Thor #2 was a wonderful follow-up to an incredible beginning. It's given me confidence in the staying power of this run and in this team, because now I know there's more to it than what is immediately on the surface. Donny Cates delivers a wholly unique and tight script while Nic Klein and Matt Wilson elevate the book to the cosmic scale it demands. Here's to many more years of stellar Thor stories. You Don't Read Comics - Christopher Landers

    Feb 04, 2020

The art team of Klein and Wilson work well together, and really shine when it comes to drawing the bombastic battles between Thor and Galactus. Actually, seeing Thor's hammer tear through the world devourer is the kind of image that sticks with you, and it is rendered with such energy that you can nearly feel the shockwaves as these two titans clash. Overall, two issues in, Cates is off to a pretty solid start, despite some minor problems with character choices. If he can avoid bending the plot to his will, despite it making little-to-no sense for the characters and the decisions they have made, so far, he might end up with one of the more memorable iterations of Thor in the long, hallowed history of Marvel Comics. Overall, Thor #2 is the issue of the series that will hook you if the first issue only grabbed your attention. Prelude: Cates started his Thor with a fantastic first issue. Now can he keep up the momentum? The Good: DC CAMEO!!! Love it. Thor is freaking great in this issue. Klein's art is magnificent. Thori! Beta Ray Bill! The Bad: Nothing. Conclusion: A perfect issue. Cates improves from his first issue and I've been absolutely loving this story so far.

This title has everything you could possibly want from a comic book; impeccable visuals, rich storytelling that is engaging as well as interesting, and a great balance of action and plot. Artist Nic Klein impresses even more with every single panel, his rendering of Galactus is incredible and will be appreciated and remembered for some time. This title stirs up feelings and vibes that are reminiscent of the 'Thanos Wins' storyline that was done by Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw not too long ago. It seems this will be another Hero-defining run as Klein and Cates make their mark on one of Marvel's most epic superheroes. Thor (2020) has me excited and eager to run to my LCS on release days. 10/10, looking forward to the showdown in the next issue. more

I gave Thor 1 a 10, and yet Thor 2 manages to be even better. This issue is really an 11/10. Nic Klein is producing the greatest art of his life and Donny Cates' narration takes Thor to a whole new level. Last issue I was disappointed that Galactus was World Devourer Galactus and not Life Bringer Galactus, but Thor 2 has reminded me of how awesome World Devourer Galactus is. The cross-company Justice League cameo early in the issue iOS the stuff that I live for. Seriously though, Cates' narration is heavenly. Can't wait for Beta Ray Bill next issue

Galactus and Thor feel truly powerful in this issue and although it is hard to convince a reader to care about a planet we know little about, the way Thor is voiced creates a tidal wave of empathy as he defends those who can not themselves.

Massive step up from the previous issue. You can see how this Thor has matured from Aaron's run; he's a king, so he makes the decision to save people instead of being rash about it. I loved that. I loved the action sequences, it really shows the power Thor and Galactus both have. Also love the teaser. The art is really good, it suits the epic storytelling that Thor has come to get over the past decade. Overall fantastic

If Issue #1 wasn't enough, than Issue #2 seals the deal. A even more bombastic, epic, and exciting follow-up to the dawn-breaking Issue #1 written by the superstar Donny Cates with Klein on pencils and Wilson on colors. Got to give a shoutout to Klein and Wilson, the artwork puts such a flare on Thor that it vibrates off the page. And the colors, all the cosmic and fantasy settings pop with the rainbow pallet Wilson has in his arsenal. But Donny Cates punches once again with a Goku-inspired cosmic herald Thor. Such grand, poetic dialogue, such intensity with Thor and Galactus, the pure destruction at hand. My favorite ongoing series from Marvel. A near perfect issue.

Fantastic second issue continuing Thor's storyline as a herald of Galactus. The reference to the Justice League was cool to see, but the main highlight of this issue, aside from Klein's once again amazing art, is the disagreement and hostility between Thor and Galactus. I believe the main point of this issue was to display how the two characters clash when it comes to their worldviews, as Thor truly cares about other living beings and he wants to make sure they're all safe and secure before doing what they must, while all Galactus cares about is building all the power he can before having to face the Black Winter. I also enjoyed the two of them trying to establish authority amongst themselves. Thor tells Galactus that, while he may technica more

"Do not make me go through you" Did Donny Cates just murder the DC Universe? Is the Black Winter DC's editorial and management and it's now coming for Marvel Universe? What the Hel is happening? Ok, now that we have this weird intro out of the way let's delve into the issue. It does not have the same jaw-dropping effect as the last issue (the last one was a real surprise), but it's still, no less, a great reading experience. It's fairly simple. The Herald of Thunder and his "master" go out looking for dinner and things go as well as you might expect, as new players are joining the fold. I will be definitely checking out issue #3.

Love the Super Saiyan 3 Look and I Love the buddy film this is turning into with Galactus. What a bizarre Team up, it works so well and brings something truly unique and fun to this story. Kleins battles are graphic and bloody and I love it, reminds me of the best parts of Ryan Ottleys Invicibles fights. The use of the background characters like Sif comes in small well executed doses that dont feel forced or like filler. Thors new powers are intriguing and its incredible to me that Cates can bring so much newness to this Character that actually works and ideas and development that feel so right for a Thor story. This iteration is being received with open arms despite the drastic change in direction made to bring this story to its current st more

Thor's tenure as Herald of Galactus is off to a bumpy start, with Big G suffering a fair bit of Mjolnir damage because Thor insists on evacuating his first target before he feeds. It's an entertaining story and a well-crafted one -- but I don't think it's quite as epic as it wants to be.
