Nov 20, 2019Viktor Bogdanovic is one of my favorite artists and to see his work in this story is one of the main reasons I picked it up and decided to give it a read. Bogdanovic's style and the way he crafts both a scene and how those characters interact with it is brilliant. I couldn't be more impressed with how this dark future looks visually and the way the art utilizes great expressive faces on the characters is an added bonus. Read Full Review

Nov 22, 2019Given that Alpha issues are often for completists only, Spencer and Bogdonavic deliver some superb work for 2099 Alpha #1, in part because they're able to flesh out this futuristic world just as much as the characters that reside in it. Spencer has ably constructed a strong launchpad for the five upcoming 2099 one-shots, and thanks to some sterling production values from Bodgonavic and Gracia, you'll enjoy this narrative that connects them all. Despite the dangers that lurk within, the future remains a joy to behold in 2099 Alpha #1. Read Full Review

Nov 24, 2019I don't know if this series is going to be any good yet but I am optimistic. We are seeing a foundation with a wide range of characters and themes for the creative team to explore. I am excited to see what they do and I hope and crave for a good story. Read Full Review

Nov 27, 20192099 Alpha is a visually beautiful book that sets the stage for future action. Readers will more likely be pulled into the narratives of the individual titles, but Nick Spencer has proven that he can craft a complex narrative. Sometimes those story arcs resonate with fans, as in Captain America and his current run onAmazing Spider-man, and sometimes they fall flat, likeSecret Empire.Time will tell if this is more of the former rather than the latter. Nov 28, 2019For an introduction, this wasn't bad at all. As a story this was jumbled and confused, so more work needs to be devoted to helping us understand these characters and their world. That will come, hopefully. Read Full Review

Nov 21, 2019While it is admirable to see the attempt to juggle such disparate plot threads and characters, 2099 Alpha #1 is little more than a beautiful display of interesting characters and setting, without a proper drive to make it move forward. Read Full Review

Nov 24, 2019While the book acts like more of a teaser for things to come, its still a fantastic place for fans of 2099 to wet their whistle while they wait for other 2099 content to arrive. The future is here, and its going to be weird. Read Full Review

Weird Science Marvel Comics - Jim Werner
Nov 20, 2019Instead of setting something up to get readers onboard and excited, Nick Spencer plays the Devils Hand of mysterious, clever and confusing. Im sure most of it will make more sense down the line, but with all the choices on the shelves nowadays, you need to come out swinging. I loved the art in this issue, but not much else for now. AIPT - David Brooke
Nov 19, 2019This is a clunky and awkward first step for the 2099 storyline that'll be sweeping across miniseries. Dr. Doom positively steals the show, but nearly everything else is confusing to read, unclear who or what is going on, and hard to care about. The art is quite strong, but you may put this down feeling frustrated. Read Full Review
