Devil's Reign #5 is a great penultimate issue as it brings big splashy superhero moments to the forefront while evil dealings in closed-off rooms take place. Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto took the ending of the previous issue to make Devil's Reign #5 the most intense chapter of this event thus far. Throughout this comic book you felt the rage that Wilson Fisk was unleashing onto New York and Marvel's superheroes. The ending, while predictable, sets up the final chapter of Devil's Reign to have serious ramifications for the Marvel Universe however the chips may fall at the conclusion of this event. I kind of read a lot of comics at once and I made little notes for each issue, so I'd know what to write when the time came to waste my time on these reviews. My note for this one was simply, "Zdarsky. 10/10." So, while I'm not sure what I meant, I think it had to do with Zdarsky's ability to weave all these different plot threads from his Daredevil run together in such a fun way.

Can Marco Checchetto draw everything please? This was another amazing chapter. The story progresses in an interesting and fast way, lots of crazy twists and cliffhangers, lots of action. It’s all so much fun and the way Zdarsky ties it up with his Daredevil run is just the cherry on top.

HOLY MOLY FISK. Do you guys remember the door scene in DD Season 1? One of this moments in this book is like that. Just switch the words "embarrased me" to "you messed up my mind".

This issue is what an event should feel and look like, Checchetto's art is captivating. I love that devils reign is a Fisk story above all else, and he really shines here. Focused and brutal. The hero moments are a fun b side, with some amazing splash action.

Yet another showcase for Marco Checchetto's otherworldly talents, and Chip sure knows how to end on a good cliffhanger, but I feel like there's just a bit too much going on in this event. Too many characters and not enough of them are being given the chance to truly shine. I'm very much enjoying it, but it's missing something that would've taken it to another level.

The plot barrels along like a train without brakes. The art keeps up with top-shelf visuals, including some insanely detailed action scenes. But somehow this isn't really engaging with me. It could be that the story's gotten too big and too distant from the characters. This issue features some solid attempts -- Fisk is intense, Jessica Jones gets some key beats, and Mike Murdock is heartbreaking -- that subjectively fail to hold me. Despite the efforts invested in making this epic, I'm kinda watching the clock, waiting for the inevitable reset button and the few token consequences. Of course it doesn't help that not only did Daredevil WWF #3 spoil the final twist last week, Elektra even called the double-secret twist explaining i t. more
