ComicBook.com - Chase Magnett
May 15, 2019Daredevil #5 is the rare mainstream superhero comic that forces itself outside of mainstream conversation. It refuses to play by the rules of the game, removing the gloves and pretense of boxing in order to confront the real costs of violence. The result is not pleasant, but it demands readers' attention and engagement. Read Full Review

Black Nerd Problems - Brandon Lawrence
May 18, 2019The scene between Daredevil and Spider-Man was the best part of this book. The interactions between the two tend to emphasize Spider-Man's goofiness and Daredevil's annoyance. This issue highlights how highly Daredevil thinks of Spider-Man, and how seriously Spider-Man takes superheroing. Between the intense dialogue and the beautifully intimidating shots of Spider-Man in the shadows, I'm closer than I've ever been to thinking Daredevil is done being a hero. Read Full Review

Comic Watch - Adrian Care
May 18, 2019I cannot be more in love with this comic right now. The creative team is just getting so much right on every level. Its only fitting that theyve achieved this level of quality by abandoning fear and exploring the psychology of the character. Even if the finer layers of the writing go over your head, the action will keep you hooked. The art is pound for pound some of the best pages youll see on the stands this month. Read Full Review

Outright Geekery - Antonio Pedro
May 15, 2019If you haven't been picking up Chip Zdarksy's Daredevil, go back and pick up all the other issues and then this one. It's really dark without going too far, it feels appropriately moody, the art is great and it's beginning to ask some interesting questions about the nature of the character. I give it a high recommendation, go and pick it up. Read Full Review

May 16, 2019It probably didn't need to take five issues to get here, but Daredevil #5 is a brutally entertaining finale for this new volume's first arc. Read Full Review

Comic Book Revolution - Kevin Lainez
May 20, 2019Daredevil #5 was another excellent chapter in Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto run on this series. Ever since Daredevil accidentally killed someone Zdarsky has put the character on a path where there is genuine concern for his choices. That all came to a head with how things went down in the battle against The Owl and two emotional scenes with the Defenders and Spider-Man. Where things ended up created a lot of unknowns for the direction Matt Murdock will go on now. That sense of unknown makes what happens next in Daredevil a must read for fans. Read Full Review

AIPT - Alex Curtis
May 15, 2019This issue, like the rest of Zdarksky's run, can be over-obvious. Yet, it's so earnest and understands Daredevil so fundamentally, this issue is nothing short of powerful. Read Full Review

Looks like Chip is really motivated to make DD the best character in Marvel Universe which is totally fine by me. P.S: Now I want a mini-series with DD wearing Punisher's T-shirt.

I felt bad almost giving a 9.5. Its a really amazing book that leaves you in legitimate suspense of where the story is going at the end and delivers a great concept that just fits Daredevil so well. This run has blown all expectations out of the water.

SPOILERS AHEAD! THE GOOD: -The art is so good. It suits the tone of the series perfectly. -The action scenes at the beginning of this issue were some of the best I've seen in a comic. It flowed from panel to panel brilliantly. -At first I was confused as to what the panel with the guy Matt killed was, but then I realized it was an amazingly subtle way of foreshadowing the tragedy to come in this issue. -Man, Chip Zdarsky writes Daredevil like no one else. At least no one recently. I think I called him the best Spider-Man writer of our generation. Honestly, that's likely true for Daredevil as well. -I also thought all of the interactions between Matt and his allies were perfectly executed. -That flashback was used p erfectly. -Goddamnit. That scene with Spider-Man, just, FEELS like it will go down as one of the best comic book moments ever. -Holy shit. The end of this issue was phenomenal. In every. Goddamn. Sense of the word. THE BAD: -Really nothing. This feels like a historic issue. more

ohhaimark - May 22, 2019Yeah, this comic is really something. I'd highly recommend this Daredevil series to anyone, not just Daredevil fans. It's great. This issue especially stood out, and it seems I'm not the only one who thinks so, considering the user score.

A landmark issue -Matt's need to continuously prove he is not a monster feels like seeing a friend go down a path you cant stop -The fight pages are well done and are loaded with tension -The character appearance in the last few pages is written perfectly for the two

This issue has some of the best action scenes I have ever seen. The themes Zdarsky is exploring here and the way he does it is so well-written and thought-provoking. The conversation with his friends, then the flashback with the priest and at last, the confrontation with Spider-Man is all so perfect! There is no doubt in my mind that this is the strongest opening arc for any Daredevil run and Marco Checchetto (and Alex Maleev) is hands down the best Daredevil artist.

This is why me and thousands of people love DD. One of the most grounded characters in all of Marvel and DC and never is that more on display than this issue

Matt and the other character feel very authentic as Matt is faced with a moral conundrum that he can't ignore. The art and action throughout are awesome too. This is easily the best issue of this run so far and has me hopeful that Zdarsky & Checchetto will leave a lasting impression on the Daredevil legacy.

This was a terrific ending to the first arc of the series and has me wondering what will bring Daredevil out of retirement. I can’t wait to see what this creative team has in store for Matt Murdock and the readers.

I feel bad for Charles Soule because his preceding run on Daredevil was good. But five issues in, this volume is clarifying the vast difference between great and merely "good."

I've never been the biggest fan of Daredevil, but in just five issues, Chip Zdarsky made me fall in love with the characters. This is an incredible, emotional issue. Where will this go next? I have no clue! But I am eager to find out!
